I'm pretty sure that all CD games have boxes and all Super CD games do not.  Please somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

The two oddities that I know about to this rule are two Working Designs games:  CD game Vasteel and Super CD game Exile Wicked Phenomenon both had slip covers.

Edit:  see above link.  On the first page of it, you already see where my rule of thumb goes wrong with Buster Bros.  Probably others too!

Not exactly about boxes, but still somewhat related.  These 21 Turbo Chip games don't have CD cases:
 Air Zonk
 Bomberman '93
 Bonk 3: Bonk's Big Adventure
 Chase HQ
 Darkwing Duck
 Dead Moon
Advanced Dungeons And Dragons: Order Of The Griffon
 Falcon
 Ghost Manor
 Hit The Ice
 Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu
 Legend Of Hero Tonma
 Magical Chase
 Neutopia 2
 New Adventure Island
 Samurai Ghost
 Shockman
 Soldier Blade
 Somer Assault
 Time Cruise
 World Sports Competition

There is a logic to this:

In order to save money, TTi (successor to NEC Electronics North America) reduced packaging.

REDUCED PACKAGING = No cardboard boxes for CD games and no jewel cases for HuCARD games.

Working Designs = Third Party (so they had slight variations from NEC/TTi)

Thx those infos were exactly what i was looking for.
I knew about hucards games having plastic inserts because of some way to reduce money

But was wondering if itbwas the same for cd games, ill keep those infos   8)

seieienbu: pre TTi CD2 games have boxes, including pre-TTi WD CD games.

All TTi era CD games, whether SCD or CD2 do not have boxes. Similar to how Intellivision games manufactured after Intv Corp took over do not have overlays.

Some CD2 games from the TTi era include Buster Bros, Splash Lake, Vasteel and Terraforming.

WD only included cardboard sleeves for Exile WP and Vasteel.

CollectardsGougers consider the OEM Duo pack-in copy of Ys I & II its own variant and "complete" with only the disc, jewel case and manual. Real collectors understand that it is never complete unless it includes the full TurboDuo package and everything it came with, including the cardboard sleeve.
-
I was curious if the cd games had boxes as well. I have a copy of Dragon Slayer with the map, and I wondered if it was boxed originally or if the map was just shoved in with the manual.

Yeah, it was just a shrink wrapped jewel case with a hang tab.

that is why terraforming is worth 1 million dollars now.  misprint by labeling a super CD.

Just wait till the collectards find out about Sherlock Holmes 2.

The Super CD format was introduced with TTi, so none of them have boxes, except for the Gate of Thunder 4-in-1.
