Title: Fat HuCards
Post by: StarDust4Ever on June 13, 2016, 10:59:40 AM
What are all of the official (or unofficial) Hucards that had a thick bubble underneath the label?

I know of a few.

Commercial:
[ul][li]Street Fighter II: Champion Edition[/li][li]Populus[/li][li]Tennokoe Bank Manager[/li][li]Various CD system cards (Super CD 3 & Arcade Pro)[/li][/ul]Homebrew:
[ul][li]Atlantean ABcard by Aetherbyte[/li][li]Turbo Everdrive (with Shapeways shell)[/li][/ul]Any others? I think there were also a few various bitd multicart pirates.

Yes, phat Atlantean! I've got the super duper limited blue 3D printed ABcard shell (presumably they'll be using the repro cards for future runs). I cane very close to mentioning it, but figured if I did I'd also have to mention the Everdrive too, with Shapeways shell.

So the Super CD system 3 and Arcade cards had humps but not the others? Interesting...

There's lots of those, ranging from huey-shaped, to kinda-like-a-SF2-humped-huey-but-bigger, to dafuq-is-this-shit?!?

lkermel has some nice info on 'em here: http://www.videogameden.com/pirate.htm

Have fun getting the Dremel and cutting an ugly groove through the casing of your console to accommodate that mutant hunk of junk. [-(

It was released by mail order only, same with the Rondo of Blood Special Hucard.

I keep getting the SFII releases all mixed up. I meant Champion Edition.

BTW, I've got Super Street Fighter II and SF:CE on Genesis, as well as the afformentioned PCe title. I actually prefer the Genesis version over the SNES because the superior controller layout of a six button Genesis, but PCe is my favorite. My Cthulhu arcade stick makes a nice SFII controller for PCe though.

I think it is plausible that we would have seen more bankswitched Hucards were it not for the prevalence of Super CDROM titles. 4 megabyte (32 megabit) Genesis and SNES carts are not unheard of.

Very nice to see the whole family together though! It seems all the official bubbles were cast in the same mold...

Dude, so jealous! I didn't know they released that on Hucard! =P~

Since we are sharing pics, I'll upload mine:

Not much to see here, SFII, Blue Atlantean, Green Everdrive, and a PC henshin region converter which doesn't really count as a "card" but being oversized, I snapped it anyway.

What's on it? EDIT: couldn't a metal card potentially short out the system if inserted incorrectly?

I can't remember what I put on it. It's a US game, and I only have JP systems hooked up right now - so can't find out. As far as shorting, a clear coating on the very front part prevents it from shorting. I can make them in copper and titanium too.

In all seriousness, how???

Turns out I learned from another thread that the bubble in SFII is actually empty. The black area below the pins is the actual PCB which has glop tops for chips which fit recessed regions in the Hucard plastic. The remainder of the card is simply for artwork and structural support.

Here's the SFII PCB:

http://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?topic=21093.msg461142#msg461142

It's longer than a standard Hucard game so they used the bubble form factor to afford more space to fit the logo. Neato! :D

Alu-Card: Aluminum hucard

That's sexy.  Is it a new pcb and chip(s) or did you reuse an old huey board?
