Title: Just another n00b, thanks for the add!
Post by: KPat on June 14, 2016, 09:10:28 AM
Hey all,

Just wanted to say thanks for the add.  Stoked to creep around these years of forum posts to learn more about PCE/Turbo stuff!

In my youthful ignorance (like many others I'm sure) I am guilty of dismissing the whole shooter genre  as all the same and all boring.  Over the past year I've been correcting that and digging into the SNES and Genesis shooter libraries along with other handhelds and emulators.  Had the chance to pick up a PC Engine GT with a few Hue's (R Type 1 and 2, Final Soldier) about a month ago and now have to purchase my AA batteries from Costco from playing through Final Soldier over, and over, and over again.  I am starting to get it now.  The hype is real.

Welcome, comrade. :)

Yup.

And some folks have done rechargeable battery mods on TurboExpress (someone can post link to ancient thread).

:)

Woah.  Checked out those battery mods (as well as the screen mods, damn those look fine!).  Looks like Keith Courage does them too by the sounds of things.  I was checking out his refurbed consoles and was thinking that's the way I'll likely go for the at home gameplay!  Thanks!

Just get some Eneloop rechargeable AAs.  I don't really see the point in the internal battery mods.

I second this.  Eneloops are pretty awesome.

Welcome to the forum and yeah Keith is the person you want to talk to for mods.  He modded my TE screen.

So I been using energizer rechargeable for years are the Eneloop better?

your energizers are fine.  the eneloops have a low discharge when they are not in use (main benefit) and can charge them a ton of times.  energizer sells some eneloop type batteries too iirc that may actually be re-branded eneloops.  Amazon basics also makes some too.

Maintain up to 70% of their charge after 10 years (when not it use)
