What screen color does your Turbografx/PCe/Super/Duo/etc display with no card inserted?
There was a similar thread some time back on NintendoAge regarding NES systems. Hardware registers tend to initialize to a random state unless instructions are given to clear this info. Due to slight variances in fabrication, different chips even out of the same batch tend to initialize differently. The GPU often displays a random color across the entire screen, typically unique to the individual console.
My US Turbografx displays a pale cream yellow color somewhat in between apricot and goldenrod, more towards apricot. What colors do other's consoles display and are they consistent between models or random?

Octarine.

Mine displays a gentle hue of potato, leaning more towards beef wellington.
-
PCE Coregrafx: Usually yellow, sometimes salmon.
Supergrafx: almost always white.

Octarine.
Ooh, pretty! Which system is yours?

White
Turquoise

Are the colors different for troubleshooting purposes? Or are they always the same, regardless of the state of the machine?

Well if a duo boots without a HuCard it displays the 3.0 boot screen.

I can power mine on and off and it's usually a different color each time, though most often yellow. Like you guys, I do this for hours. It's random and means nothing. I think the Turbo just picks a color to display when it sees voltage. There's no rhyme or reason, just immense entertainment for us lucky Turbo owners.

It just depends on the random state of the RAM bits for the VCE palette on startup... as Charles Macdonald tested years ago.

it's like digital music generated by a fax machine, pure art !! you can listen for hours, not too dissimilar to UK's esoteric experimental dance artist aphex twin, squarepusher and autechre

Careful. If you hurt his feelings he'll lock the thread and storm off again.
