Title: Game selection at brick & mortar stores
Post by: SuperGrafx on October 20, 2016, 03:05:38 PM
Man, I've been hunting around for a brand new copy of ULTIMATE NES REMIX for my 3DS, so I figured I'd check out a few area stores instead of going the usual online route.

Wow.  When did the selection of physical 3DS games become so paltry?
I checked Target, Best Buy, Gamestop and a few other area shops and they all seem to have the same old selection -- those $19 "Nintendo Selects" titles, a few killer app titles like Mario and Zelda, and Pokémon, Pokémon and even more Pokémon.

Did something change these last few months or is Nintendo cutting back on shipping physical games to shops?

They cut back a while ago.  I remember the first Fire Emblem on 3DS was out of stock for weeks after it was released, because stores got only a few copies each.  I always preorder my 3DS games that I really want, for fear of getting Fire Emblem-ed again.

Gamestop normally seems to have a decent selection but everything is gutted.  Sometimes I get lucky on BestBuy but yeah Target always has a shite selection it seems like so I wind up buying online.

If you're willing to go used sometimes I've had decent luck sometimes with local buy/sell/trade joints.

yeah usually if you don't get the game around release date, it becomes much harder to find in brick and mortar shops

So it's the same as the Gameboy days then.
