Title: Hey, I found the name of the narrator / Dr. Garcia in Last Alert.
Post by: Punch on October 22, 2016, 01:47:12 PM
It's the same guy! The advisor from Winback (PS2) sounds close to the narrator ("Col. Kadat of the Republic of Lybid, Mr. Lee of the Hong Kong mafia, Chairman Steve...") from Last Alert.

Unfortunately Winback doesn't say who dubs who in the credits , only the names of the VAs, but IMDB says that the "Advisor" was a guy named Mark Hagen.

See 3:50.

The Last Alert narrator sounds an awful lot like Dr. Garcia too, and he's credited as "Mark". DING DING DING.

100% sure it's the same person. Anyone willing to track him down for a mini interview about the dubbing process of Telenet games?

Note: I was just playing that stupid game and I immediately noticed his voice lol, talk about a chance find. I literally found out about everything I wrote like a minute ago when I was fleshing out the thread a little bit so it wouldn't be just "hey look at this guy, sounds similar to the narrator in last alert, amirite???"

Apparently he's also "General" in Mega Man X4 (credited as Mark HagAn).

If it's not him I'll eat my hat. Who knew they were actually "professional" voice actors

Wow, Winback wins back memories from 15 years ago, the last time I played Winback on N64.

Back then, a renowned German Nintendo-centric videogame magazine gave this game a 1- (translation: A-) rating, praising the gameplay as some hybrid between Metal Gear Solid and 3rd-person-shooters. So my brother and I bought the game, but were disappointed by Winback's mediocrity through its repetitivity. It had no voice output whatsoever.

Years later, my brother got me a cheap used copy of the Winback port for PS2 on birthday. Just for shits and giggles. That bastard.
Oh well, at least the graphics are a lot clearer now, so I could have a chance to see what I'm shooting at in the distance. AND I can listen to cheesy voice acting, that's at least some win back.

Punch: I love stuff like this! :)

Too bad I memorized other lines from Last Alert...I wish I could quote Dr. Garcia himself right now.

"By the way, Dr. Garcia...How is the work on your ultimate weapon—INDRA—coming along?"

It's cheap, and pretty fun.
multiplayer can be pretty entertaining.
Dodge roll is OP, I dodged an entire magazine of machine gun fire by mashing.

I have the PS2 "enhanced port?" However have been interested in comparing the original N64 game.

This might meet your interest:

By the way, I love this definition of "scat":
Quote
scat

To chow down on large amounts of big, hot, shit.

Sir Jerald looked over to Lady Penelope and gave her a sly wink. "You're really going to love this next course," he said in a hushed whisper full of promise. The servent bought a steaming dinner plate to the table and lifted the silver cover. Lady Penelope's eyes lit up with delight and she blushed furiously at Sir Jerald. "My favourite!" she exclaimed and cut deeply into the big fat pile of shit that had oozed out of Geralds a$$hole not half an hour ago.

"Last Alert, a terrible game with bad voice acting on the Turbografx CD"

They can insult the voice acting all they want, as it is deliciously terrible, but the game??  It's one of my all time favorite games in all of history, are there people out there that actually consider it a terrible game?

Well there's the opposite extreme, haha.

Last Alert is definitely a decent game, but it doesn't even touch Bloody Wolf.

I love both.  They're similar, but still different.  I don't know how to put it, but both are up there as far as favorite games for me.
