Title: Konami Files Trademark for Turbografx
Post by: KingDrool on December 06, 2016, 02:47:02 AM
I lifted this from this thread on NeoGAF (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1322646). Not sure if it means anything, but it could mean they are going to once again/continue to release Turbo games on digital platforms (Switch?).

Bonus side conversation/what-if-scenario: What if Konami decides to make a TurboGrafx-Mini, like what Nintendo did. What would you like to see? Which thirty games would they include? Would it be a replica of the original, or would they pop in a second controller?

It's probably just to retain control over it and be able to stop peopke like Kanye West from using it without permission.

You think Kanye would really title his album TurboGrafx?

Maybe they're gonna update their offerings on PSN, at least making them available on PS4.

As for dreams of a mini, I'd want wireless controllers with extras available separately.  For games, I'd like Aero Blasters, Air Zonk, Alien Crush, Blazing Lazers, Bomberman '93, Bonk's Adventure, Bonk's Revenge, Bonk's Big Adventure, Cadash, Chew-Man-Fu, Dead Moon, Devil's Crush, Dragon's Curse, Dungeon Explorer, Galaga '90, Keith Courage, Legendary Axe, Legendary Axe II, Magical Chase, Military Madness, Neutopia, Neutopia 2, Ninja Spirit, Order Of The Griffon, Parasol Star, Soldier Blade, Somer Assault, Splatterhouse, Super Star Soldier, and Time Cruise.  My list should probably have more variety, with some sports games or something, but it's hard to pick when you're limited to just 30.

This is current Konami... we're not talking about when they were the awesome kick ass old school Konami.  They only know how to sit on and or shit on their old IPs and basically do nothing with them.  In the rare event they do something it's lame sauce.  Let's all sing together (to the little old Konami jingle when their name would flash at the title) Fu u u u u uck you!

Konami has become Atari. Which I never thought I would ever say.

The PCE was released in 1987, so a 30th anniversary console (like the NES mini) would make sense.  Especially with how well these retro games have been selling for the past few years.  As long as its not like the Neo Geo X (which sold like crap, but the idea was well executed).

I think it is for this. Although I would like to see Konami do something with all those games like put them on the PS4, Vita and Steam.

Konami owns Hudson, wants to retain ownership of all its properties, also I happen to know another party filed for the trademark earlier, so this is likely to dispute that.

I think it is to license digitally-released games. Anything beyond that is beyond the scope of modern Konami (not that making repro-consoles was ever IN their scope).

I dont get why Nintendo only put 30 games. Why would we limit a console to 30 games?

Make it mini with a SD card or some memory you can't erase and slap all the games on it. Heck,  make a version available that can play all the cd-rom games from the SD card as well.

I don't see the appeal in a console with a limited number of games like that when you can get the original console. MOD it fix it whatever then grab an everdrive and have every single game in the first place.

But thats me......

As for Konami I really can't remember any of their games I have played recently besides Rondo of Blood.

Because it's supposed to be a simple little device for average consumers (30-40-something moms) to get warm fuzzy memories about the NES. It's not meant for hardcore nerds who troll ROM sites or track down old consoles and repair/mod them.

If it sells well, they will release ver.2 with another batch of 30 games.

Money.

Nintendo could have easily just rereleased the NES again, exactly how it was, and the games, exactly the same as before, and it would have sold gangbusters all over again.

I couldn't agree more on that assessment. It would have been epic, it would have outsold the X1 and the PS4 together. But no, they had to screw up as usual.

Ehhh, I for one am happy not to deal with crappy NES cart connectors anymore.  Don't own the classic nor plan to since my Twin Fami +N8 does it all, but I think they hit their target demographic well with this unit.  Over the next 6 months it will be more interesting to see what the hackers manage to do with it I think.

If only because of the hardwired controllers, the Twinky Fami would be the Cadillac of Famicoms, instead the AV Fami has that honor.

The NES re-issued exactly as it was. That's hilarious. What would be the point? The nostalgia of the 2nd shittiest cart slot of all time? Or do you just like using iPhone quantities of electricity to do abacus levels of computing? Do you like paying your portion of the tooling costs for mask ROMs in 2016?

People would still bitch about the controller length and that they "need" a ton of mods and upscalers to use it on their HDTV.

And...what...you can't find a NES for sale or something?

I'm not the greenest dude alive or anything but I wouldn't really be happy with Nintendo pumping out 20 million non-Energy Star Complient devices and 100M carts that are mainly just plastic boxes so that some 90s kids can harden their e-peen before loosing track of the things in a week.

I would laugh if all it was is a modified raspberry pi with 30 roms loaded on it. Knowing modern Konami that isn't too far off from the truth...

As for the NES the RE-released unit would need HDMI and wireless controllers, but the carts could be functionally the same, and compatible

Mask roms wouldn't be needed as flash roms work just fine

Well honestly, my comment was based on the customers that come in our store.  Half the time they dont realize they can own a nes as often as I hear them lament about selling it.  They probably would just buy it again if it sat on a shelf at walmart.  Upgrades would be nice too.
