Title: Bad game testing and Hardware related problems....
Post by: Digi.k on January 10, 2017, 08:34:37 AM
I don't know if there is a list of game titles that have problems with hardware but I just came to the conclusion of the following

Sol Moonarge

Damnit I really like this game, the gameplay the PSG music, controls basically everything about it I like.  But it looks like I have encountered a problem with this game running on real hardware.

Basically when you start the game for the first few hours the game runs fine but once you reach a section still early in the game when you reach a temple and witnessing some incident involving what appears to be some round mirror getting smashed.. the game just hangs.

Now I have a pc engine briefcase set-up and have different types of accessories hooked up to it.

I tried switching between different combinations of the following

super CD-Rom card, Arcade Pro Card
multi tap wireless controller,  2 button wired controller, 6 button wired controller
memory 128 either connected up or disconnected.

I  first bought the game a few months ago when I first experienced the game hanging and I wondered whether the game CD had any imperfections but couldn't find any upon inspection.  Even getting the CD-rom repaired in a game store I tried the game again and still the game just hanged in the same area.  So I purchased another copy of the game, same problem game hanged in the same spot.  A couple of months later I now own 3 copies of the game.

Between switching between all copies and hardware accessory configuration while playing the game it still hangs with blank loading screen at the same scene!

I can only concur that this game only runs properly for Duo/Duo-R hardware unless all 3 copies of the game I own have scratches in the same data area!

Shin Megami Tensei
The game controls go out of whack when playing on a wireless controller.  Wired is the only way to go when playing with this.

Magicoal
The game manual states this supports the memory 128 back up unit.  It saves fine but I cannot load from it the game just hangs.

Yokai Dochuki
This early game will not start if you have a multi tap plugged in.  This includes the wireless multi tap

Are any of those Sol Moonarge's the gold spine / greatest hits re-print versions?  If not, maybe they fixed the glitch on the later ones.

Well 2 are the light blue obi strips and thats what I am wondering with the gold strip one.... which pisses me off considering it's price.  But my other worry is what if some shady ebay seller just sells the old print sol moonarge with a spare gold strip?

You could try dumping them and see if there are any differences.

Or maybe try a iso of the golden one to see if it breaks in the same spot?

Yeah,  Sol Moonarge is awesome. But hard, couldn't get very far when I played it. At least I saw the girl in her bath

Wait, it's Moonarge?  Moon Arg!, Arj....?

I've always said it as "Moon-Rage" as in Sol Moonrage!

Well, I'll probably just continue saying it that way.

Odd bug, hope we get to the bottom of this... carry on.

It's a tricky one, like ETRNAL City
