Title: Seeking coders / artists / musicians for a PCE megademo!
Post by: orby on January 31, 2017, 02:17:57 AM
Hello all,

This is Orby from the demogroup DESiRE. We take old hardware and make it do things that everyone thought were impossible  8). We are interested in doing a megademo for the PCE and are looking for experienced coders on the platform and other creative individuals who are interested in collaborating.

You can read about our latest release for the TI-99/4A on hackaday at

http://hackaday.com/2017/01/30/dont-mess-with-texas-the-ti-994a-megademo/

or just watch the Youtube video of it at

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhSUhE03XFw&feature=youtu.be

We anticipate being able to do some much more impressive things with the awesome little piece of hardware that is the PCE :)

If you're interested in participating and think you'll have some time to work on such a thing, drop me a line at orbitaldecay@gmail.com, or reply to this post. Thanks!

I like it, cool effects on the old 4A, and the music is very good too, a little bit irritating on some sounds but catchy .

Thanks! We're proud of what we accomplished. Definitely turned some heads in the 4A community. Hoping to do the same here :)

Cool! Do you have some examples of your work?

I wouldn't mind contributing with a piece of art, so long as you don't mind cutesy 90s anime art of course...

You need any musical assistance?

I probably won't have alot of time to do anything code related (bonknuts or elmer is probably better for the hardware pushing stuff anyway), but I could help with music or sound related stuff.

Any other details on this yet?

Musical assistance is welcome. We have a few musicians and artists in our group that may also be able to contribute material, but the more the merrier :) Right now we are seeing if there is interest in doing this and if it is feasible to get a team together. No other details to speak of yet.

I wouldn't mind contributing with a piece of art, so long as you don't mind cutesy 90s anime art of course...

That sounds interesting. We haven't decided on a theme yet, but an anime styled theme could be very cool. Post some of your stuff :)

To everyone: if you are interested in participating but are not available this week, or this month, we are not operating under any particular deadlines. The window for completion is probably something more like 6 months to 1 year. After all, we're mostly adults with jobs and other responsibilities... unfortunately ;)

Here's a 2bpp artwork for the GBC I did a while back: http://orig04.deviantart.net/4a74/f/2016/281/d/d/valkyrie_the_power_beauties_on_gbc__mockup__by_michiharuruko-dakcsrn.png
(Note: The sprites have 6 colours as opposed to the usual 3 because they're 2 sprites on top of one another)

A fanart for Henshin Engine I did: http://orig05.deviantart.net/d601/f/2016/351/8/f/yuki_shirokawa__henshin_engine__by_michiharuruko-darxbjv.jpg (http://orig05.deviantart.net/d601/f/2016/351/8/f/yuki_shirokawa__henshin_engine__by_michiharuruko-darxbjv.html)

The cover of my album that I also drew: http://orig14.deviantart.net/8513/f/2016/360/f/d/_album__cybertech_custom_covers_by_michirin9801-dasyg03.jpg

And a screen-cap of an animation I'm currently working on: http://orig02.deviantart.net/645e/f/2017/028/f/b/capture_by_michirin9801-dax3fjt.png

I can easily draw 4bpp artwork too btw, I just don't have anything presentable that reflects what I can currently do...

Lol you guys have never seen the Xymati/PC-Gunjin graphical assets I used to mercilessly spam the forum with back in the day?  There's way more than what's on Pixel Joint, I can tell you that haha  ;)

Since those games will likely never get done in an actual capacity, I vote we just turn all of fragmares artwork over for this demo, and create a "We wish this was real" inspired demo, lol

I figured it was implied that a good chunk was done in reference to the art he posted, and that with the art he shows there a simple and excellent looking game could be made in construct in a couple days.

Construct blows game maker out of the water ;) But seriously, "Baby's first game" engines like those can put together games so danm quickly the art is usually the bottle neck.

Yeah, Paul dicks around with them sometimes and produces some pretty nice stuff.

Too bad its not that easy to do PCE stuff, lol.

I mean, we had SEUCK/etc. on C64/Amiga, but well

it's not called SEUCK for nothin'.

everything made with it f*cking seucks.

That's sad, I'd really hoped that this would be something that you'd love to do, and have time for.

IMHO, you and Bonknuts are the most technically-capable and adventurous guys here.

Absolutely ... that game has got to be made on the PCE!

There's way too much excellent work there to have it just sit and suffer bit-rot on fragmare's hard drive.

Thanks for the art and the interest :) Sounds like between our group and you guys we have some artists and musicians lined up. Still looking for coders. I'll be writing code, but I'll need at least one serious collaborator for this thing to get off the ground. Recommendations?

bonknuts is your best bet, as goobering around with tricks and stuff is his specialty.

I'm more prone to writing game code, not flashy hardware pushing stuff, lol.

Cool to have a new demogroup on PCE!
I'm currently super busy with a small prod for the next datastorm. Hopefully it will be over next week :)
Anyway, I'll be more than happy to lend a hand.
