Title: Does anybody know actual release date of the Super System Card v3?
Post by: benlefou on July 11, 2017, 09:31:36 PM
I know the first Super CD-ROM game came out October 25th 1991 but I can't seem to find a date on the required System Card, is it safe to assume it came out on the same date?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Let me see... are you referring to this item?

...or are you looking for additional evidence to corroborate this date?

Ah thank you! That's exactly what I was looking for!

It would make sense for it to launch with the first SCD game since the SCD attachment didn't come out till December that year.

Question: in the bottom-left of the first page, what is the date range "October 25 ~ December 27" refer to?

Quickly glancing at that....I might not be 100% accurate.

平成 = Heisei,  A japanese era name.

Heisei (平成) is the current era in Japan. The Heisei era started on 8 January 1989, the day after the death of the Emperor Hirohito. His son, the 125th Emperor Akihito, acceded to the throne. In accordance with Japanese customs, Hirohito was posthumously renamed the 124th "Emperor Shōwa" on 31 January 1989.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heisei_period

sooooo...

平成元年 = 1989 or Heisei first year.
平成2年 = 1990
平成3年 = 1991

I'm guessing that the below date
平成3年 10月 25日 - 12月 27日 = 1991 Oct 25 - December 27th

is some kind of competition window for all those hardware/accessories  listed in some kind of "super gift campaign"  スーパーギフトキャンペーン

賞品 = Award item
500名 = 500 names or 500 people etc.

Awesome.

*hugs*

I know it is vague, but that helps out tremendously.

GENERAL PROCEDURES: were there common procedure for entering a contest? I'm assuming this was a mail-in thing? As opposed to physically submitting something at a retailer...

It should be in the PC Engine Catalog.

PCE Daisakusen lists its release date as 10/26/1991 (and for 9800 yennies).  I assume its release dates were culled from a hyper catalog or something similar.
