Title: Fake Dynastic Hero Help?
Post by: sonikthehedgehog on July 24, 2017, 10:25:40 AM
Trying to determine if my sealed Dynastic Hero is a fake. The reasons I'm doubting it are:
The manual has wear.
The other sealed duo games I have didn't have that band going around the shrink wrap.
The manual's spine looks worn.
Looking at it through the sides it also looks like there aren't any pages in the manual.

If any one has any pictures of Dyanstic Hero's manual or the back art itself I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, guys

Open it up and find out.  There's no known pressed discs using art identical to the originals, and you'll be able to count pages and better see the quality of paper/printing used.

Might be a reseal.

But if you think it's fake send it to be for the cost of posting. I'll open it and play it.

Absolutely.

Open that up so I can compare it to mine (which is already opened).

Also, it will be fun to see if the version you have (TTi, North America) is similar/different than mine (Japanese version).

I will take photos.

I find it interesting that a game that was mail order through Turbo Zone Direct only and not sold in stores has a hangtab.

Looks fake, judging by the pictures of the manual through the bottom/top of the case. Either open it up or return it. Pick one.

lol I think that is fake.   the doofy spine leads me to believe this, along with the wear that is usually the result of less-good-quality print shop print+fold procedures.

Thanks for the input guys. I was pretty sure it's a fake. Just wanted to ask the community. I will just send it back.

That's definitely not a factory seal, so there's no point in keeping your copy less valuable by leaving bootleg packaging around the exterior.

The manual pages do tend to remain tight to each side, but one of those side views looks different.

The colors look off, but it could just be the poor lighting of the photos.

"THE LAND OF TARROM..." text should be cobalt and the text below the recycled paper notice looks like it is supposed to be the same ink/color as the cover's giant DUO logo.

You back photo looks like there is an extra strip of print along the top that shouldn't be there. The artwork pic with the logo near the top ends at the top, just as it ends at the orange stripe below.

I'm sorry.  I just couldn't resist.  In all honesty it does not look real to me.  Should be an easy return for you as it seems the seller has good feedback.

Good luck.

You can buy this one (http://www.ebay.com/itm/THE-DYNASTIC-HERO-FOR-TURBOGRAFX-16-CD-COMPLETE-AND-NEAR-PERFECT-/332267028140?epid=64151333&hash=item4d5ca87eac:g:zX0AAOSwXY5ZRCCV).  Unless you need the 5 TTI points.

Didn't a Bonk 3 CD just sell for like $5k sealed?  I would think DH would catch more than 1300.
Maybe many bidders had suspicions which scared them away.

Yeah I saw that one. I knew this wasn't a legit seal. I was just hoping it was a minty copy when I opened it.

The seller had some other high dollar stuff including a complete stadium events they sold. So, I figured they were on the up and up. Honestly I just think he didn't know it was fake.

Not only does it look even more fake in the auction photos, some of those shots don't make sense for showing condition and seem to be 'bootleg disclaimers'.

Truth!  The 3/4 view of the spine and back shows me a folded, cracking piece of dollar store photo paper...

This is pretty concerning, as it does look pretty authentic, but still seems fake.  It's obviously resealed, but you don't usually see the hangtab and tearaway strip with reseals.

Please post more photos if you do open it up as well as let us know what happens with your shady seller.  I'd love to see what the disc looks like.

I'm going with real.  The photos aren't high enough resolution to call out as fake, imo.  I've never seen a sealed tzd release so I can't comment on the authenticity of the shrink-wrap.

I would personally send it off to be graded.  The experts at VGA would notify you if this is indeed fake.

Wasn't Riot Zone a TZD release?  I had it sealed and it was in a stretch/ heat seal with a hang-tab, not a fold with a tear strip.

Also - if they are still available, take a look at the eBay listing photos - there is one of the back taken at an angle where you can see that the fold in the insert at the spine does not look perforated, and the paper surface is cracking like cheap photo paper.

I know that Buster Bros and Splash Lake came in that thick shrinkwrap. I'm now trying to remember clearly how Super CDs came packaged. All the "sealed" copies on eBay have thin shrinkwrap. I also now think that the sealed copy of Cotton that I sold on here for $70 had that kind of wrap.

Wait.....

I think you guys might be on to something.  Since this was a special order item only it could be legit.  I agree that sending it to VGA to be graded is the way to go at this point.  You could have a 5k plus item on your hands.

Schrödinger's sealed jewel case is full of genuine Turbo goodness and isn't.

That Pokemon listing looks like it came straight from the Youtuber's school of how to successfully advertise videos using boobies in preview pics. Not sure if it helps ebay sales, though. Especially since a good deal of Pokemon players are female, anyway.

I'm thinking as well that some games being sold only through TZD may not be true. I remember buying Shape Shifter and Riot Zone brand new at a mom and pop game store localish to where I lived back in the day. Makes me wonder if maybe just maybe that dynastic hero could have been sold somewhere else as to why it has a hang tab on it.

A few games may have only been sold direct by TTi like the Super CD card or not mass distributed through major retailers, but I find it hard to believe that TZD was the exclusive source of anything.

Who could possibly look at the condition of that manual and believe that it's never been opened?

If you’ve never purchased a CD before you might not be able to tell and many of the noobs fueling this bullshit market are in that catagory. OGs who have opened litterally thousands of CDs over 30+ years know what real is, what process print looks like, what CD-Rs look like. Any weird gloss or print artifact throws us off by reflex. When it comes to something like PCE games which were all pressed in a short span of time by a small number of shops you can easily SMELL if it’s real or not. It doesn’t even take effort.

Noobs don’t know though. All they know are buzz words and dollar figures.

When it comes to vinyl records the manufacturing technique varies almost with every release or even a reprint of the same thing. I guess I can imagine someone thinking maybe CDs are made like that, sloppy and variable (but they aren’t).
