Title: The Spriggan Shooting Challenge
Post by: Emerald Rocker on November 15, 2006, 02:01:08 PM
It's coming!  It's coming!  Sharpen your thumbs!  Get Spriggan now if you don't already have it!

More updates to come shortly.  In the meantime, start hunting down this game and thinking about finding a partner -- we're gonna have ourselves a score-based brawl between PCE-FX's most dynamic duos.

You two should be partners and SHOCK THE WORLD.

I'll be in this, assuming I can somehow pull myself away from the brilliant Astralius.

I recommend that we do Time Trial mode for this since that is, well, designed for scoring contests  , but Runin and Emerald Rocker don't seem to like that idea for some reason. Also if we do use one player mode, I think it should be one life only.

The time trial is designed for "walk up and play this game NOW" scoring contests.  It doesn't work for an un-monitored contest where people can keep trying again and again for a week, because then everyone ends up with the same score in the end.

You could say the same thing about single player mode if every one will keep trying like they did in time trial. Time trial mode is designed for contests, so there are lots of ways to find the best methods of getting high score. I'm not sure how well Spriggan's time trial mode is designed, but if it's anything like Soldier Blade's, there is going to be some good competition. In Soldier Blade's time mode, there are tons of little secrets of getting a higher score, check out here (http://nfggames.com/games/SoldierBlade/) for a guide that shows all the tricks. We like to hold these video game tournaments in my house and one time I chose Soldier Blade's 2 minute mode for it and there were some interesting results. I had more experience with the game than everyone else, knew some of the hints and tricks to get a good score, blasted away a bunch of stuff and didn't get hit once, yet a few unexperienced people beat my score and died a bunch of times, one of the people being someone who had no experience with the game at all! So if Spriggan's time mode is similar to Soldier Blade's, I think we will get very mixed results and have a fun time seeing who can manage the highest score. Not only that, but more people might be interested in competiting in this if it was a time trial mode.

You're just scared because you know you will loose  . I don't mind doing single player mode, but I just think it's silly to ignore the trial mode when available since those are designed for contests. Compile may as well have not added that feature then.

No way this is going to happen! As Keranu has mentioned, it's a carnival game and although I'm not very familiar with the trial mode I'm sure there are many secret things in there to raise your score, as there are in all the carnival games.

It's definitely a cool idea and I hope we will use the score attack for the competition.

Spriggan's Score Attack rules. Next best thing after Ikaruga.

Yeah, we were going to use a combo of arcade mode and score attack to determine who wins.  It's time attack that gets tossed out the window.

That sounds great. Now we can list who wins the single player mode, time trial mode, and winner with best overall. Should be fun.

Score attack mode.  Not time trial mode.  They're different!

The "competition" topic will be posted in about a week.  Now is the time to start locating the game, and start thinking about finding a partner.

Ok, been practicing score attack mode and have learned two things.

1. Score attack mode rocks and would be great for a contest.
2. My reflexes have declined greatly over the years.

Cool idea though!
