Title: Post your scores for the Spriggan showdown here
Post by: runinruder on December 15, 2006, 03:48:46 AM
Okay guys, today is the day to post your Spriggan scores.  Remember, each person needs to post two scores, one for regular mode (on one credit) and one for Score Attack.  You don't need to post screens to "prove" your scores; in fact, I'd prefer you didn't so that my slow computer doesn't take an eternity to load up the thread when I check it.  Just the scores will do.

Here's a quick look at the teams and their chances of winning!

EMERALD ROCKER and RUNINRUDER
These two clowns are the only people in the world who have beaten both Astralius and Sword of Sodan.  Of course, that only means that they're insane, not that they're good players.

PANEL OF EXPERTS PREDICTS... Last place.

TATSUJIN and ELNINO
Tatsujin is known for collecting PCE shooters and posting pics of said shooters, but it is unknown whether or not he has actually played any of them.  Elnino brings youthful enthusiasm to the table but has been awfully quiet of late.  This team is like a dangerous sleeping dog.

PANEL OF EXPERTS PREDICTS... Second place.

STEVE and ROLINS
Undaunted by finals and boxes, this is a mighty duo with plenty of shooter experience.  Rolins mocks the dreaded PCE Tatsujin as a "walk in the park," while Steve was bummed that Spriggan was such a cakewalk.  Perhaps overconfidence is the only thing that can bring them down.

PANEL OF EXPERTS PREDICTS... First place.

BLACK TIGER and KERANU
Black Tiger is the king of PCE RPG walkthroughs, but he's relatively new to the Spriggan experience, meaning his young pal Keranu might have to carry the team.  The main concern with this duo is that Black Tiger will post an incredible score only for Keranu to accidentally delete it.

PANEL OF EXPERTS PREDICTS... Fourth place.

ODONADON and SUNTEAM PAUL
Victory by this self-proclaimed "Team of Rubbish" would go down in the PC Engine annals as one of the greatest surprises of all time.  They've been practicing hard and Odonadon has already boasted of one-credit finishes despite his late acquisition of the game.

PANEL OF EXPERTS PREDICTS... Third place.

Let's see how it turns out.  Good luck to everyone!

Hahhahahahhahahaa. I still have a few hours to find this game and play it! Rolins, I won't let you down :). I'll at least have a score to post! :)

Whose idea was it to have this contest at the busiest time of the year!? Goddamm, I'm an old fogie :(. What else can I complain about, considering that I got a 4-day extension on the deadline :).

Some impressive scores there. Thank goodness I didn't take time to enter. Don't know if I could have taken such a crushing blow to my ego at this stage in my life.  :D

Well, unfortunately Odonadon's boasting were psych-out attempts - I had yet to play the game when I made that post :)  I was actually pleased with myself when I made it to level 2 :)

Here's the best I could do:

Main game: 127270
Score attack: 315620

Looks like I have the lowest scores so far :(  Team Rubish it is :)

I just got home and I'm really tired.  I'll compile the final results and create a nice, big super congratulatory topic when I wake up tomorrow.  See you then!

stevek666 is right, it's way too busy a time of year. I'm psuedo unemployeed right now, but still couldn't make the time to learn this game. I had planned on spending yesterday playing it, but got called into work, which took up my morning, day and night. Today is already also booked, so I just did a few quick rounds of the score attack(which I still don't fully understand).

If we have another competetion with a weird game like this that has special scoring/extending elements, someone should put up a faq first, so we all know how to play.

Normal Mode: 225550
Score Attack: 502110

It's 2:35 a.m. on Sunday and I am sorry to report that I have yet to find / unpack my pce stuff. Hopefully, I'll have some time tomorrow to play it. I know I missed the official deadline, but I still want to see what kind of score I can get.

Sorry about not posting a results thread yesterday -- things got crazy.  Unless he takes forever, we'll wait for Steve, since it looks like he's going to try and make an effort to show.

Main game: 11,839,630
Score attack: 608,580

In case anyone who hasn't beaten the game is wondering how on earth people are breaking scores of 11 or 12 million, it's because the final boss is worth 10 million points.

Ahh, shite so that's why! As you can see on my screen, I died at the last boss! I should've practiced more because then I would've made a little better competition :D .

Also, what was everyone's tips with getting a big score in Score Attack? I assume it was nailing all of those sliver orb things to rank up a lot of points?

Black_Tiger, we should make a Ghost Manor Tournament.

We'd be the only two to make it past first few areas(if I deleted my walkthrough first).  :P

Do you mean the pulsating orbs that blow up everything on screen and give you a temporary shield? They just do that. Blowing up everything on screen and giving you a temporary shield. The real points are hidden beneath some round beige tiles. The more of those special tiles you find, the higher the bonus points stack up.

About the snake heads, you can get higher points by shooting at the snakes/worms before destroying the heads. Each head spits out up to three of them.

Also, when you get to the boss, you need to shoot it down in one go -- that is, before it spreads its mechanical wings. You'll need a powerful weapon for that, two blue orbs and a yellow one (or two yellow orbs and a blue one) are the combo of choice. When the boss goes down in flames, keep shooting at it, you'll get extra points.

Those hidden round beige tiles were the things I meant.

Thanks for the tips about the other stuff in the score attack mode!

So what's the deal with the purple/pink balls in score attack mode? Do they extend your time or what?  :?

Now that the contest is over, I suppose I can post my personal score in the Score Attack (http://namida.com/kaminarimon/tmp/spriggan_scoreattack01.png) mode :)

I think they just give extra points, but I could be wrong.

I'm totally MIA as far as Spriggan and free time for the past few weeks. You folks can tally up the final scores to finalize this contest. Maybe, one day, I'll be able to play Spriggan and we can add my score to see *what could have been* (back to the future).

I will return to these boards once things settle down.
