Hi
Just got a briefcase setup but no leads what/where can i find/buy/get a psu for this thing i'm in the uk
I have a megadrive psu and that powers up the engine or the cd rom unit but not both
cheers if anyone can help
-
If I knew,Id tell you. Thats a hard one. Maybe afew of the users here are bound by Pal country also so give this thread a few days for them to see it so you can get a solid reply.

Cheers seems hard to find this info
-
No answer for you (sorry), but you might read the tg-16 / pce FAQ (http://www.classicgaming.com/museum/faqs/tg16faq.shtml#4)... there is a discussion of AC adapters, but I'm not sure if the suitcase is mentioned.
I can tell you that the suitcase had it's own unique specs. I suspect the PCE + CD = TG-16 + CD, but don't quote me on that.

Thanks
thought i might be easy to find this info there must be someone in the uk with a briefcase setup
Have found a shop while looking over some old threads but the price is high cheaper to get a stepdown :|

Hopefully I can be of some belated help. Joined the forums today. :)
I'm in the UK too and also have a briefcase setup, it came without any power supply, this is the one I found in Maplin Electronics which works great. Order code L46BL.

I always was asking my self what kind of ugly, huge and clumsy mains plug you UK people have. quite hilarious :D

Yup, it is very clumsy and large (and fu**ing painful when you step on it!!!), but also a LOT safer than most 2 pin US / Jap plugs which aren't earthed. (I know that there are US 3 pin plugs, but the 2 pin ones are still commonplace). Hmm, the inconvenience of a slightly larger plug, or death by mains electricity, which would I rather have?......

Very true, they look like they're possessed by some demonic forces! :D

i know about the earth protection, because here in switzerland where i've lived before a long long time, we also using a lot of those earthed plugs but they measures only a quarter the size of yours . and also it only makes sense, where you have some metallic chassis. for pure plastic housing as shown in the picture above, it doesn't really matter with or without :D

Same thing used in Korea these days. In fact, Korea switched over from 110v to 220v in the mid 90s. It was kind of pain in the ass in that era to switch everything over, get transformers for your appliances, etc... But now, everything has been switched over, and it's pretty smooth.
In terms of classic gaming though, certainly more convenient to have 100v/110v, considering that majority of things were built for/out of countries that still uses 100v/110v in homes - Japan and US.
-
Do you live in Korea? Are you born there or did you move there? I've been planning on moving there myself sometime, seems like an interesting place to live.

Hah, getting off topic, but make a long story short, I was born there, and moved back & forth between California and Seoul till I was a teenager. I also worked in Korea for a few years after graduating from university. As far as what I've seen, I think Korea tends to be a love it or hate it place for a lot of foreigners. Like any foreign place, if you keep an open mind, you can enjoy yourself - not to mention foreigners usually live like kings just for the sake of knowing English and teaching it. But if you're really interested in Korea, PM me, and I can give you the low down and answer whatever questions you may have. (or Japan, cause I worked there for some time too).
Right now I live in Calgary (Canada) - since the wife is Canadian & she's doing her thing with her teaching credentials here... And then we'll probably be off somewhere else, not too sure where just yet...
-
Man how can you afford to move to all of these countries?
-
apparently, teaching english pays well.
though i have heard horror stories.
-
Yeah, it definitely helps when the job pays for your airfare and gives you free/subsidized housing on top of that. But as guyjin says, there are definite precautions you need to take. It's not all fun and games.
Though in Korea, I didn't just teach English (though I did do that for one year) - being Korean and all allowed me to do any other jobs I was qualified to do.

Thanks NeoStuey i now have that power supply 8)

Let us know how you get on. :D

So it's a negative tip 9VDC power supply. Does the bit at the end have a size? Ie 1/4" or 1/8"? Hmm, I may have one lying about...

Hi
Both interface units are dead :(
I have two working pc engines and one working cd unit could i have missed something seting this up?
There is no power light when the psu is on
cheers for the help
-
Have you made sure the slider on the interface is all the way accross?
This is the off position on the interface.
And the interface and engine both switched to the on position.
Catches most of us out the first time. :D
I really hope it is something as simple as that.

Both ifu's are dead
Can't afford to spend anymore on this so gonna sell the working parts
At least the power supply problem for a ifu in the uk has been sorted
Thanks for all the help

 I can't believe they're both dead.
Might want to just double check the polarity, contacts aren't covered in muck, etc, before giving up on them entirely, I guess I don't want to beleive you got two duff ones. :(
In the meantime I'll be praying for a miracle.
@Spector,
Sorry I missed your earlier post, I'm afraid I don't know the size of the adaptor tip is, it was just happened to be one of the ones that came with that Maplin adaptor I posted a picture of on the previous page.

Woot!! The power of prayer!! :D
Now it's fixed I got some quick q's for you. :)
How about the other interface, is that still dead?
Did you get more than one CD-Rom2 unit?
Did the interface units come complete with the briefcase lids?
What system card have you got?
£14.00 is amazingly cheap!! Especially as it works!! Nice one!!
-
Glad to hear you fixed your problem slayer2k7. I hate simply hate it when systems go to "waste".
Someone on another forum I visit (a motorcycle forum) just commented he recently threw out a TurboGrafx-16 system. I shed a tear for the system.
-
Thanks for the replies

Cool stuff, especially if it's a Super System 3.0 card that you got as part of one of the bundles. That card is good for all CD-ROM2 and Super CD-ROM2 games, so pretty much the entire CD-ROM2 catalogue is already within your reach already. :D
Yep, the Arcade Card Pro is needed for the SNK fighters and a few other Arcade CD-ROM2 only titles, the card is also fully compatible with all the CD-ROM2 and Super CD-ROM2 titles as well, so once you do upgrade cards you needn't switch back. There's also a few hybrid Super CD-ROM2/Arcade CD-ROM2 titles which offer slight/minor enhancements (shorter loading times etc) on systems using the Arcade Card Pro.
Re the spare IFU, I'd be inclined to test it and keep it as a back-up to the current one, should save you the hassle of trying to source another one should you ever need to. Having said that, i also think that you should be able to get at least what you paid out for both units on ebay should you wish to part with it, especially if you can advertise it as known to be working. :)
Lastly, a request, if the white CD-ROM2 is dead but is aesthetically correct I'd be interested in buying it from you for it's lid. Would offer say £10.00 plus postage costs. :?:
Mine is not quite right, in the fact that the previous owner(s) managed to rub part of the letter O on the CD-ROM2 stencilling so much that it is now only half visible. They must of liked cleaning a bit too much.
If you are interested in selling it on, let me know. :D

Couple of questions regarding the White PC Engine:
1. It takes a 9V DC power supply, but at what amperage? Would an adaptor that can take 1A be enough?
2. What price typically should I expect to pay for a white PC Engine in good working condition?
-
1. 1A is way enough (around 650mA i belief it is). But if you use an CD-Rom in additional, you ned 1450mA.
2. for a loose exemplar with ac-adaptor and pad not more than $50. as for a complete mint exemplar about $80~100max. but be aware that the original white core only provides a sloppy antenna RF-signal.
