Hey guys, just joined and thought I'd introduce myself! Really glad to find a decent PC Engine Board! I'm 26, live in Scotland and have a PC Engine Duo, my fav. games include Star Parodier, F1 Circus, all of the Y's games and a few more. I hope to stick around and contribute a bit, and I'm sure I'll learn a lot from some of you PC Engine Veterans!
The other main system I collect for is the Sega Master System, and I have a pretty vast collection for it, it's the system I've been collecting for the longest. I also have slightly smaller collections for NES, Megadrive/Genesis, Atari Lynx, N-Gage, Wonderswan, Amstrad GX4000 and Playstation.
Enough about me anyway! I'm off for a look around the board and at some old threads!! :)
-
Welcome to the boards! :D Make yourself at home and help yourself to some cake and punch!
Nice collection of games and systems you got there, kungfukid. Just remember, if you need any advice video game related or just want to talk gaming, you're in the right place! :D
You'll be spending quite a bit of time reading through all those old threads. Just to let you know.

Lol! Thanks, I've had my dinner but I'll take some to be polite! :D I forgot to mention the NGPC in my collection list, and I'm sure there will be one or two more that slip my mind!
I know what you mean about the amount of old threads too! Man there are a lot! Plenty of bedtime reading!!

Welcome to the board, newcomer. :)
-
Thanks again! And I'm always looking to learn more, so I'm sure it will be a great help to me! And if anyone ever has any questions about the SMS you can ask me anytime if you like! (Although I gather that Bock is known here too!! He gets everywhere! lol!)
-
Welcome, we have fun n' games! Well, not exactly, but, you'll enjoy you're stay all the same!
-
The only SMS games I ever played was Hang On & Safari Hunt, Golvellius, and Rastan. Golvellius is freaking awesome. I'm hoping to ever get the chance to play the sequel in the future. :)
-
Golvellius is a good game, but Golden Axe Warrior is a lot better (to be expected since it was released two years later!), Rastan is good too. There are a lot of really great games for the SMS, some real gems out there! SF2 isn't as good as the PCE version though...
-
I also want to have the chance to try out the first Phantasy Star and Spellcaster. Golden Axe Warrior is something I'll need to try out in the future. Thanks for the suggestion. :) In case you haven't guessed, I'm a pretty big RPG buff.

They are all great games! I'm just surprised you didn't mention Ys: the vanished omens there!!!

Welcome aboard, HAAAR HAAAAAAR HAAAAAAARRR! Nice avatar, what game is that from? Is it Kung Fu Kid?

Haha, yeah, it is! My favourite game for the system!

PC Engine, AND Master System fan! Welcome! We gonna get along well homey. Just keep on posting, and you'll be at at least over 50 before you know it.
For me it's all about Time Soldiers, Kenseiden, Maze Hunter 3-D, Space Harrier 3-D, Shinobi, Astro Warrior, Y's, Phantasy Star, the Zillions and Cyborg Hunter
-
Cyborg Hunter is a pretty cool game, but there is always some part I get stuck at when I play it. I can't remember off hand, I would have to play it again. Definitely has a cool look to it.

Hey, thanks for the warm welcome guys! To try and take the points some of you have made, yeah The SMS is by a long long way my biggest collection (Around 260 individual games plus variations as well as most major console packages, almost all available accessories, magazines from back in the day etc. and my pride and joy - the rarest game in existance for the system - Smurfs 2 / Les Shtroumpf Autour Du Monde - of which less than 30 copies are known to exist worldwide), I'm a member of the Forums at sega8bit.com and smspower.org although the sega8bit ones are by far better so I contribute there a lot more regularly. There are so many underrated games for the system and you guys have mentioned quite a few of them.
As for the NES, I probably have around 80 games, so it's quite a small collection but then it's never been my main focus so I don't increase it as regularly as I could - still am always interested though and am a member over at NESworld.
I'm relatively new to PCE collecting, although that said I did a lot of research before I started collecting for it because with my SMS collection having grown to the size it has there isn't really that much for me to get for it any more, so I wanted to fnid something else to really get my teeth into! I really had a choice between focussing on the NES more or choosing something different and I went with the PCE after taking my time to get to know the system. I love the design aspect of so many of the games, and the split of Hu Card and CD games is great! I especially like the Duo console, a really unique and great piece of hardware.
Anyway, thanks again for the welcome!

Man I love the Master System, when I was a little kid I probably put hundreds of hours into Phantasy Star and could never find the real last boss. Then one day I was at the library getting some Conan books and I found one of those old code books done by Zach Meston, inside he showed where in the last dungeon to find Dark Force. That day ruled.
-
Yeah, that last dungeon on Phantasy Star was BRUTAL - if you meant Lassic's dungeon, that is... Dark Force's (or was it "Falz" for SMS version...) was just tricky in that you had to use magic to find the door, but other than that, it was nothing compared to Lassic's, IIRC.
I think I tried drawing my own map, but with all the traps, it didn't take long before you were completely lost again. Then I recall going to some kid's house, and he had the map that he supposedly got from Sega hotline themselves (but I recall it was rather crude hand-drawn & photocopied), and finally getting to Lassic. Goddamn, that had to be one of the hardest dungeons in all of video game kind.
-
There's a pretty big consensus that Phantasy Star is one of the best games for the system, quite interesting that it's not that rare (ie there are always 4 or 5 copies on ebay at any one time) but it regularly fetches between £20 - £30 ($45 - $67), quite a lot when the average sms game goes for around £3! That said, the most I paid for a game was £180 for Smurfs 2 (around $375)!

#-o I can't believe I forgot about SMS Ys! I'm almost too ashamed to have this avatar now! ](*,)
