Hope you find you can use it.

Awesome, thanks a lot. After reading the first couple sections it looks like it should be enough to get me started.
Maybe I'll attempt a simple mod on one of my spare Genesis's. :)

Nice guide. In fact, the videos on that guide is really well done. Showed me that I got into a habit of doing some bad things while soldering.
Anyway, maybe I'll write a simple guide for different types of common switches out there. Coupled with this guide, I think it should make people understand what they're doing when performing basic mods.

yeah thanks, will definitely check this out before working on my tristar project.

Ahh,the Tristar.
So I take it your going to do the improved video mod. If its possible Id forgo improving the RF and gun for a composite video mod.
-
I'm just going to install an electrolytic capacitor to remove the stripey graphics as per this tristar faq someone put together. You recommend something else?

If possible, try to tap composite off the rf area on its pcb. Typically composite signals are sent to the rf area on the pcb and you can usually at least pull off composite video and at least 1 mono audio line.If you took it apart and took good quality pics I might be able to help you pinpoint it if its there.
This is the same method people use to do av mods for Genesis 1,Nes Top loader,Atari 2600-7800 ect ect.
