So I need to know the easiest way to burn a patched copy of Ys IV under Mac OS 10.2.8. I know there are a number of other Mac users among us here.
So I ripped all the tracks to WAV format myself from my own copy of the game (yes, I DO OWN a REAL Japanese copy) and the data tracks to ISO.
I have a program called PPF-O-Matic that is going to apply the patch to the ISOs I ripped.
I can get a good TOC from www.necstasy.net (http://www.necstasy.net/) so that takes care of that.
So I am stuck as to how to get everything burned back to a CD my Turbo can play.
I've used Alcohol 120% on a Windows machine before, but the problem is, I don't actually own a PC. So Alcohol is out of the question. What is a good Mac equivalent that can do the job? Can I do it with Toast?
I seem to remember trying something similar a long time ago with 0% success. But I think that might have been because the audio I was trying to use at the time was in MP3 format and not WAV.
If not Toast, what program do I need? C'mon all you Mac technical experts... I know someone out there has done it.
-
think Toast is your best bet but then I'm still on old OS9 so can't say for newer Mac ^__^
-
If you can't successfully burn it, I can send you a copy as long as you swear on a stack of bibles that you really do own the original.

I'll write a note that says "This is for you, Black_Tiger."
Then I will place that note on a table next to my copy of Ys IV, take a picture, and e-mail it to you. :D
But I'll let you know if it comes to that....
....So, anyone else? No hints, tips, or tricks? Has nobody ever done this with a Mac before?

Or you can go to this thread:

Scroll down to the last message, look at the first picture that shows the full batch of games I picked up. You can clearly see Ys IV on the right.

I have Mac OS X and Toast works great for illegally copying games (if it's not illegal, it isn't worth it), but I've never done any separate data/audio tracks with it. Maybe go to the AUDIO section of Toast and select "mixed mode". Then drag the tracks in one by one... in order... that includes the data tracks. Make sure everything has the same name (ys4 track 1.wav, ys4 track2.iso, ys4 track3.wav etc etc).
That's weird that you ripped it to WAV. Why not AIF?
-
Download this file (http://www.digitalsloth.net/ys/files/ys4.cue), put it in the same folder as the iso and the waves and open it (this file, that is). It should open a burn dialogue right away, just burn it without changing any settings and it should work.
NOTE! In order for this to work, your files (iso and wave) must be titled in this format:
01.wav
02.iso
03.wav
04.wav
05.wav, etc etc, up to 31.wav.

I thought it needed to be in WAV format in order to burn back correctly without fiddling with converting the audio. Maybe that was an incorrect assumption, but I didn't really give it too much thought.

Thanks, I'll try that.

In Mac OS X, when you put in an audio CD and it appears on the desktop, you can double click on it to open it and see all of the tracks. Drag any one of them to your desktop and it copies (not converts) the track to your HD. The file will be an AIFF. You can change the CUE sheet to reflect the file extension (it's just a text document). But no need since everything is already in WAV anyway and Mac OS can handle that as easily as AIFF. Windows gets confused (since it is a bad OS).

If you have the original CD then make another image, this time make it a BIN/CUE. There much easier to patch and you don't have to worry about the track order.

Typical flamebait. :P

So.... How do I make a BIN/CUE image under OS X? Sounds like that might be the easiest route.

The built-in burning software in MacOS doesn't support BIN/CUE. So you need a program like Toast.

While Windows isn't the best OS in the world, it's far better than Mac OS - which is all about looks. Useful features are nowhere to be found.

Microsoft is dipping into the same garbage bin as Apple. Have you seen the their new Vista OS? More bloat, ten thousand more features no one knows what to do with, and they've add all those 3D graphics to the desktop. Saddest thing is I'll eventually have to have use it.
-
Yeah I'm using Vista at work (with Aero turned off, of course!). Absolute crap. Windows XP is and will remain #1 for a very long time.
SX Window, though... now THAT's an OS! ;)

I'm a Tandy Deskmate (http://toastytech.com/guis/deskmate.html) man myself. 8)

OS/2 FTW!!
At least Microsoft doesn't crank out incremental upgrades every year or so. At last count, OSX has gone through 5 releases in 7 years at +$100 each (and people say MS is a greedy whore).
Back on topic: Good luck with the burn - Ys IV in english is scrumtrulescent.
-
Ys IV in English is the best game that's ever been made, period!

I will at least agree with that (though I've never actually went out and purchased a stand-alone version of OSX). Also I think 10.1 was free (upgraded from 10.0).
As for Ys 4, too bad I still don't know what they are saying during the cinemas. Subtitles would be awesome.

Try the next best thing (subtitles, but not on the screen):

I had high hopes for the dub that someone on RIGG was working on (sorry, I don't remember who). It sounded like he was really trying to keep everything professional, rather than some crappy fan dub with people f'n up lines and giggling. Last I heard, the project died due to lack of voice talent volunteers. :(
-
Justus' Ys 4 dubbing project died because he had more important stuff to do.
Although he recently hinted that something was going on, so who knows? I definitely don't expect anything to happen, though.

I know one of the voices in the beginning (from Goban) says "Dogi! Dogi you nigger!"
