Title: Neo Geo and MSX for VC !
Post by: esteban on February 23, 2007, 12:22:26 PM
Gamasutra blurb on MSX and Neo Geo for VC (http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=12869)

Aleste and Eggy (http://www.generation-msx.nl/msxdb/softwareinfo/388) (?) confirmed debut titles for MSX (I want to play Aleste and Aleste 2. Too bad VC won't include the Aleste Paper Plane (http://www.generation-msx.nl/library/japan/other/aleste_plane)).

Not sure what Neo Geo title(s) will debut.

North America won't get MSX, will it? What about Europe (not sure about UK), where there actually was a small MSX scene?

Nice i guess, still if there's no d-pad suport for neo titles it will be a train wreck.

I read about this earlier, very interesting. I hope they bring MSX games out here because I might actually purchase one or two of those since 1. ) Computer emulation blowz, 2. ) I'm not willing to purchase those kind of systems. I remember reading months ago that the VC was said to get MSX and Commodore 64 ROMs (Neo Geo was not specified), so what happened to C64? I'd be willing to purchase C64 ROMs as well for the same reason I mentioned earlier.

I sure hope there's enough memory in the console because you can't access the VC stuff from the SD cards since Nintendo is super hyper paranoid.

*huge

And no - there's no way in hell these games will show up outside of Japan.

Computer emulation blowz

Yeah. Playing computer (MSX) games on a computer (PC) is just plain idiotic. Computer games should be played on a console - with a weird controller instead of a keyboard as they were meant to be played!

The only problem I have with computer emulation is just that... I'm stuck by my computer desk!  (small monitor, no sofa, etc. etc.)

I seriously need to set up a PC set-top box to my TV...

Just get an Xbox, you can even plug a USB keyboard into the controller ports if you buy a cheap adapter or just splice the wires from the keyboard to an xbox controller cord (since they're both USB) to play old computer games.  A modded Xbox is the best way to play ROMS on a TV, it rules, thats how I play old DOS games now since I hate sitting in front of a real computer.  Like for Eye of the Beholder 2 I just mapped all the keys that the game used to a controller and played it like a console game, it was awesome.

I've started playing console games on my computer myself. It is convenient.

Just get a Shuttle and load it up with emulators, plug in one of those nifty USB controllers and you're good to go.

Yeah, definitely was looking toward the x-box due to the machine's emulation friendliness.

Ah, but I have so many games as is that I still need to play, I guess it just never comes up as a priority thing to do...

I didn't mean as in control wise, I meant as in difficult to set up and sometimes faulty emulation wise.

We definitely aren't getting those games on Wii. Nintendo of America wants THEIR games to sell. Greedy bastards.

Kind of a weak start if ya ask me.

If i was in charge it would be FFS,SS and Magician Lord.

Btw if any body does down load FF,WH or AOF.

Then i suggest this joystick

I appreciate SNK's starting Neo Geo choices for the VC since each game is the beginning to three popular franchises and early Neo Geo games at that, but I don't think they're a good decision for appeal. There are plenty of fighting games for the Neo Geo as we all know and I think it would be best for SNK to try to offer a non-fighting game when they can so people who aren't into the genre can enjoy Neo Geo games. My starting choice would be something like Magician Lord, Nam 1975, and maybe Fatal Fury since they're all different genres and early Neo Geo games and pretty good games at that (with the exception of Fatal Fury, but it wouldn't feel right to release a later FF game after the first).

Agreed even Nam 1975 would be a good starter choice as well.

Me thinks snkp thought it would be better if they used FF,WH and AOF for that mass appeal.

Still i find it odd...since the world heros and the aof serise has had more of a cult following among it's fans.

Also that's why i suggested,Fatal Fury Special that's when the serise starts to get good by that point.

Dunno i won't be surpise if they stick to releaseing the good titles for last.

I'm slightly annoyed with the initial neogeo games. Plays right into the 'for fighting game fans only' stereotype. There are quite a few good puzzle games for the Neo Geo that would have made good additions. Heck, even a Metal Slug game would have been nice.

I wonder if they are going to release the Metal Slug games on the Virtual Console considering you can buy the entire series on a single Wii disc anyway?

Probably, just so they can milk as much money as they can.

Yeah it's there is the MSA for the Wii not much point for snkp to do so.

Unless, they emulate it for the vc to suport the classic controller some thing that the msa lack  :P

So how is the Neo Geo emulation on the Wii?

I think the Xbox 360 is starting to see Neo Geo games as well.  Of course they will cost less on XBLA ($5 vs $9) and have online play and achievements so it'd be best to get the Wii version since I'm stupid.

I've let you down, Joe. I haven't yet had a chance to download and play Magician Lord for the VC.

Since I know you're losing sleep over this, I just wanted you to know that I do still intend to try it out.... tomorrow.  :D

I played it tonight.  Seems to be emulated well, though it looks exceedingly blocky.

Hell no, do you think I'm some sort of retard, purchasing a game I already own?  I played it at a friend's house who doesn't own a Neo Geo.

Is this the same friend whom you've borrowed every other game you don't own from?  I might have to look him up.

Joe Redifer apparently has some pretty good friends.

What the hell does that mean? Elaborate, please. (I still haven't tried it.)

The Neo Geo runs at 240p.  The Wii runs at 480p.  The upscaling sucks.  It's blocky.  If this is difficult to understand, please never speak to me again.

You're always mentioning how you borrow games from a friend, I think you even borrowed some rare PCE game from him once and posted about it on here.

I'll borrow games if I don't have them and want to play them.  I don't recall any rare PCE games, though.  Oh wait.  I did borrow Dynastic Hero a loooong time ago before I knew it was rare.  He lives in Pittsburgh and I do not.  I am trying to get him to sell me Dynastic Hero.  I've already got him ready to sell me Crusader of Centy.
