Title: Operation C
Post by: MotoRoaderMike on March 08, 2007, 11:47:53 AM
Now I'm sure the Contra series needs NO introduction. It's one of the most popular and most successful game series' of all time. But I think this particular installment is NOT well known. "Operation C" for the old Game Boy, released in 1991. Of all the Contra games I've ever played, I think this one is the easiest. Contra is a really hard series, but it's not so hard that it's unplayable. This one didn't seem as hard as the other Contra games I've played. I think that made it a little more enjoyable. I recommend it.

^^ no I think that was that ultra shitty Contra Force game.  I remember Operation C being pretty sweet for a gameboy game back in the day, I haven't played it in years though.  I noticed many of those NES to Gameboy adaptions came out much easier on Gameboy for some reason, except for Battletoads.

Actually, I'm hoping we will eventually get to remake all the 8-bit Contra's for the Turbo CD, including Operation C, which I would want to be 2 players(since IIRC, it was only 1).  Contra Force, would get an overhaul in it's gameplay, to make it like the other games, & make it your Bill & Lance, instead of the choice you get.  Operation C ofcoarse, would have the biggest graphical overhaul.  Since it's looking like we can do hacks by porting over NES games to the Turbo, & updating them, it looks like this might happen sooner then I thought.

I could have sworn Operation C was also the title of a NES game and the PS1 game...

Operation C's ending music is also fantastic.  I wholly recommend it just for that.  Dracula Densetsu II on the GB too, for the same reason.

The FC pendant to this one is Super C, i believe.

Yeah, I downloaded a ROM of Contra Force a few weeks ago. WTF is that shit? Why the hell do you battle people in that one?

I played Operation C on a game boy emulator many years ago.  Not bad for a GB port of a Contra game but like other GB games at the time, it was way too short and too easy I found.  It also had a tendency to reuse music from the NES version.  For example, the stage 1 music of Operation C is exactly the same as the stage 1 music in Contra.  For stage 4 of OC, stage 5 of the original Contra.

I also think that it was released after Contra III: The Alien Wars for the SNES (which is the only Nintendo Contra game aside from Contra Force that I haven't played yet).

I gotta check out Contra Force just to see how shitty it really is.  Would be good for a laugh. :P
