but even the connection is such fast, there is almost nothing in the net which can be downloaded with that speed  (exept of parallel DL :) )

I used to have a fiberoptic connection which was capped at 10mbps up/down.  But they kept having stability problems and converted it over to a 6mbps down and almost 1mbps up cable modem.

I'm using a cable net connection via Comcast. I get on average around 900-1000 kb sec on downloads if the site is willing. I can typically run 9 torrents at once upload and download.I could probably run more at once but then each files download speed gets cut into more and more. This was not always the case. Last year the dl speed was around 300 kbs and I was only able to run around 4-5 torrents at a time without too much problems on uploading and downloading. Really sucked compared to now. Used to use SBC DSL. I no longer consider to use it since Comcast improved so much.

2M DSL. No idea what the upload is, don't care. Might upgrade to 8, but I don't really see the point in doing that.

You can have 100M in the neighbouring town. Would be interesting to try surfing with such a connection.

Edit: I did your little test and got these results:

Don't run the speed test from that Japanese site.  It's in Japan.  It will say you're slower than you really are because when they invented Japan they decided to place it far away from the US.

This one's pretty good, though:

From hardwaregeeks.com I get:
Quote
Your current bandwidth reading is:

5.42 Mbps

which means you can download at 693.63 KB/sec. from our servers.

This stuff can vary alot, and I have not optimized the settings on this pc I did the test on at all.

Actually I got the exact same result as with other tests.
