Title: DVD of PCE ROMs on eBay
Post by: nat on March 30, 2007, 04:09:41 PM
Obviously an illegal item. But I find it interesting that someone has gone to a lot of trouble with the packaging:

Forgive me if these are common, but it's first time I've run across anything like this. Of course, I would never buy pay money for such a thing but it's a curiosity at the very least.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know what game that is in the bottom right picture?

That's what I'm saying. This guy pulled out all the stops. It says there is a quantity of 3 available.

I'm wondering if this was strictly a three-issue deal or if there was a larger run done of these things.

Anyone ever seen this before?

These are pretty common on eBay actually. I haven't seen it with this case before, but the auctions generally say the same thing and use the exact same screenshots and stuff. I think there is even an "official" page for this pirated disc somewhere.

Its probably not a "run" at all. Inkjet printers that print to cdrs are fairly cheap. The printable cds themselves are not much more than regular CDRs. There is a 99.99% chance this is all homemade.

And thanks runinruder for the tip.

Of course it's all homemade.

A run is still a run, homemade or not.

I was pondering how many of these this guy (people?) might have made, not the semantics of the word "run".

Anyone got a URL link to the "official" page Keranu mentioned?

Wow that was an ugly cover. :o

I especially like the choice spelling of "classics".

What a f'n tool!  I especially like how he tried to hide the fact, with tiny gray text, that an emulator is required to run the games.  I hope that he isn't distributing MagicEngine with a stolen key.  I would report this to Ebay, but why bother?  It's not like they are going to actually do anything about it.

P.S. - I am not related to this douche.

Prove it.

Simple - I wouldn't waste time putting a clothed chick on the cover.  For me, it's nude or nothing!

They actually can and WILL do something about it. And since I'm a bigger douche than he is, I'm gonna get this shit pulled. Stand back.  8)

Meet Kitsunexus, the eBay Nazi.

So, what did you ever determine about our friend selling the "PC ENGINE CONTROLLER !RARE!" aka Gravis GamePad?

Never got a reply back....and I never reported the listing. D'oh!  #-o

So I figured I'd make up with this one. ^_^

Good luck with that.  Unfortunately, this isn't the first time some clown has auctioned rom and/or iso collections, and Ebay wouldn't immediately pull the listings.  Eventually banning the scum is useless, as they will just create a new account.

It seems to be U.K. sellers who are getting away with it, so it may be okay under eBay.co.uk's rules if its kinda legal over there.

I doubt it's legal under EU copyright law.

ebay.co.uk is stupid, stuff like this gets away easy but I tried selling a JAP/US switchable Gamecube and that got pulled down in a couple of hours. Its nice that they took the money I spent listing it too.

We've had an interesting, night-automated collaboration going every now and then - my brother's been seeking out these DVDs and I've been reporting them.

I don't know if it's had much effect, but perhaps somebody sleeps better at night...

The rules here in the UK should be the same on these issues. The UK Ebay staff are probably just half-wits.
