Title: Virtual console seems to ease my collecting habbit a bit.
Post by: RCduck7 on April 26, 2007, 07:36:18 AM
Still not an owner of a Wii but since i wanted to buy Gunstar Heroes and R-Type III on ebay and lost the auction i don't seem to care that much as they are on the Wii!!!
At least on the European list.
Not the same as having the original but as some titles even plays a bit better as the the original version (definitely better then the pal version with a weak signal from console to TV) it saves me money for something else.

Also some of the arcade compilations out there like midway,taito,... i have now on ps2 made me sell my original games like gauntlet on the nes, mortal kombat 2 on genesis,... because they are better on the compilations (not all are better though).
Still, some games like Ghouls n' Ghosts on the genesis... I just can't bring myself to sell them even i though i have them on the capcom generations compilation.
Must be because they were significant in gaming history and bring the most nostalgia from the early days. :)

Downloading games for free and playing them on an emulator on a PC is better than virtual console. The emulation isn't crap, the picture doesn't suck, it's not buggy, it's not extremely expensive and you aren't forced to use a bad controller. Damn, I hate virtual console. I just can't understand why people are actually using it. I find it shocking.

I'm green around my ears regarding emulation and found the roms on dreamcast disappointing.
On genesis the sound is harsh and snes noticeable slowdown.
Nes was more then ok. :)
Can't stand the hassle on PC (while seeing a mate of mine struggling on it's PC and getting his controller setup), it gives me a headache and it's just not the same on a PC while you can sit on your sofa on the big screen.
But i'm a busy bee and it happens that at the moment i'm looking out for xbox emulation.
Will get software installed by someone but i bet it will be sometime before i can relax and start playing the things i want to play.
Spending to much time finding and searching things out and less playing.
When does it gonna stop!

I admit it appeals more to the casual gamers that see an easy way to play those games.

I guess some people like to stay on the right side of the law - the poor, dumb bastards.  Not to mention that a television is often preferable to a computer monitor (depending upon your setup), especially for multi player gaming.

VC gives you no control over how the game is emulated. 9 times out of 10, the game is going to look and sound like it was originally released.

That's fine for most people, but how about people like me, who run with AA in the highest resolution with sound at the highest sample rate?

Not to mention I can have any game I want. It's not the matter of "I don't want to pay for the games", quite the contrary, I would pay a reasonable price for my games. However, Nintendo is slow at releasing games, and third-party games are hardly ever released.

Also, I mainly play single player, if I play multiplayer, it's netplay. So a monitor is just fine for me.

I'll probably get a laptop down the road, but as of now my PC is just fine for playing emulated games.

I used to hate virtual console too, But I have found out that it is really great for people who aren't into computer emulation and or collecting. I don't own a wii, but I think its an alright machine. I think that all in all, releasing old titles on virtual console will help those companies to want to make new games.

Yeah, horrible 3D sequels and remakes that tarnish the reputation of the original and disappoint old-school gamers.

Oh quit being a baby, you know you would love to see a new sequel come out for a classic franchise no matter how crappy it turns out. A new sequel could ruin the reputation of the original game, but who cares? Just ignore it and continue enjoying the original game.

Uhh, no offense, but that's the dumbest thing I ever heard. I HATE it when companies mess with my favorite franchises...that's why I'm not really happy about NiGHTS 2.

1) the emulation is not crap. The only real problem I've seen is Military madness, and they fixed it. The 'picture' is just fine.
2) $5 to $10 is not expensive, much less extremely, by any stretch of the imagination.
3) the controller is awesome, wether you're using the wiimote or the classic controller.
4) given the chance, most people don't want to be crooks. That's why people use it.
5) bite me.

But not good enough. PC emualtion lets me see EVERY pixel in resolutions that rival 720p. Sound is better than ever, and can you rip game tracks directly from the game's code and put them on your MP3 player? I don't think so.

2) $5 to $10 is not expensive, much less extremely, by any stretch of the imagination.

$10 for a f*cking near 20-year old game!? That not f*cking expensive!? Oh wait, I forgot, you guys dropped $20 for less than stellar GBA emulations of actually 20-year old NES games.

3) the controller is awesome, wether you're using the wiimote or the classic controller.

Whether you can use both of those or not, I still prefer my Saitek Rumble Force P2500 (http://www.saitekusa.com/USA/prod/P2500.htm).

4) given the chance, most people don't want to be crooks. That's why people use it.

Maybe in 1812....

5) bite me.

*CHOMP!*

I'm sure no one likes seeing a good franchise getting a cheap sequel, but as long as you still have the original game, what does it matter? You can relive all of your fond memories by playing the old game over and over again and just forget about a stupid sequel a company might make. And as far as NiGHTS 2 goes, I can't see how you wouldn't be happy since with the little info released so far, it looks to resemble the first one very much.

Yeah castlevania any one  :P

I like the VC but i don't care for what they charge on it though.

As late of late i haven't down loaded much becuse of that.

About the only thing annoys me the most so far... is how slow there release are, not to mention no online co-op or even a score board.

While i think there service for it is convenient i think nintendo could do better.

Umm, no. $10 is for the N64 games, which are less than 10 years old. except for the crappiest n64 games, you couldn't get a cart cheaper.

VC games are pricey when compared to the various compilation discs.  20-30 games for $30 is pretty damn cheap, if you actually want all of the games.

I too am disappointed that Nintendo has made no improvements to any of the VC games, but just how quickly do you think new games should be released?  New games have been released weekly (less so for SNES and N64).  It would be pretty stupid of Nintendo to flood VC with hundreds of titles on day one.

People wouldn't be so mad about having to pay $5-$10 for roms if the VC actually gave people all the options the free computer emulators do, but $5 for a rom that you could get for free on a PC and have tons of filters/cool shit to play around with is f*cking crazy.  Microsoft overcharges too, but at least on Live Arcade all the games have HD makeovers and some sort of online and achievments added for the $6-$10.

I don't see why Nintendo is so stuck in the stone age and refuses to support HD and online, it's insane.

Nintendo Classics Collection for GBA. Made almost more money than Pokémon, and it was about as much of a scam.

Just got mediacenter with emu's and also hugoX on my xbox but no roms for it.
Seems it is relatively easy to find back ups on hucards but not CD from my experience.
I'm searching for Beyond shadowgate in particular.
C'mon show me roms are better then the virtual console thing.
You can send a PM if you want.

So i've herd to bad konami can't do some big, Ganarae Goemon collection.

Still knowing, Konami they won't bother why do that.. when there's money to be made on Xbox live arcade and on the VC

Because of that f*cking idiot Hideo Kojima. I loved the first Metal Gear Solid, loved it to death. I loved it to beat it in all difficulties except extreme, 11 times, with both endings. I HAVE BEATEN METAL GEAR SOLID 99 TIMES.

But seriously Hideo, the new MGS sucks. Go make a Snatcher/Policenauts sequel.

Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes for the ol' Game Pube is FANTASTIC!  I think you can pick the game and system up used for $50.  Throw in a memory card for $10 and you have the greatest adaptations of a MGS game ever, debatably.  No Whiney Raiden, no motorcycle riding whore stealing your stuff.

What the hell are you talking about!? TWIN SNAKES IS A REMAKE OF THE FIRST MGS! RAIDEN IS IN THE SECOND!

Also, WHY WOULD I WANT THE SHIT REMAKE WHEN I HAVE THE FAR SUPERIOR ORIGINAL?

Dude, hand in your gamer's license. Seriously.

You can have my licence when you pry it from my cold dead hands...  :D

Perhaps I should have made my allusions a bit more concise.  :-k

MGS = AWESOME. So is the T-shirt.
MGS2 = Raiden is whiney and needs a haircut.  Detracts from the otherwise wonderful game.
MGS3 = Motorcycle riding whore steals your stuff at the end of this epic instant classic.  I would have put a bullet in her head under the waterfall.  Man, the title song is catchy...

MGS:TS = Takes the gameplay aspects of MGS2/3 and perfectly marries them to Metal Gear Solid.  ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY Fantastic game.  No Whiney Raiden, no Chinese double agent Bogarting my stuff, just some awesome gameplay.  I'm not calling anybody one, but if Fanboy-ism is preventing you from playing this game because it's on the Gamepube, then you betta check yo' self because Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes is, in my opinion, a must play.  It no way replaces the original, but I believe it wonderfully captures the gameplay essence of the series.

There is little info about a secret game based off Snatcher for Wii being made by Suda 51 and Hideo Kojima called Project S (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3158809). Hopefully when information finally starts digging up it will be good.

Fanboyism for Sony isn't keeping me from playing TS, I LOVE MY GAMECUBE!  I hate all Sony systems except for PS1 anyway.

Fanboyism for Konami, the fact that I am an MG purist (I like nothing past the first MGS) and the fact that I DESPISE SILICON KNIGHTS is what's keeping me from playing it.

I'm a gaming patriot, not a loyalist.  Despite certain gaming politics, MGS:TS was a welcome surprise.  No man should have an ism, especially if it's fanboy-ism.  I think I'll make that my sig!!!
