I have a hard time choosing between Super Castlevania IV and Dracula X Rambo's Blood for the PCE. But in the end I think I prefer Rambo.
-
Super Castlevania IV, of course. The only reason I've kept my SNES all these years.
-
Drac X PCE is the best for me.
I only tried Castlevania IV when it first came out and really didn't like it.
-
Rondo Of Blood, no questions asked. Simon's Quest is a close second though.
-
Never played Drac X, So I voted for Simon's quest.
-
The New Generation (Bloodlines to you americans). This game rocks!
However, I would've voted for the X68000 version if it were in the poll, because honestly, I love that one. And no- I'm not saying this because I want to be "different" (like wanting to vote for the CD-i Zelda games!), it's just that I'm a huge X68000 fan, and I consider that game to be one of the best for the format. The PS1 port isn't quite the same thing. I prefer The New Generation over that one. Plus, I suck at playing 2d games using a PS controller. :P
I haven't played Castlevania 4 much, but I think it's a great "pick up and play" game, even though I rarely even get to the fourth level whenever I play it. I don't think I've ever gotten there, actually.
Rambo's Blood. Dragon's Curse! :D

Completely agree with you. Its in the poll btw,the PS1 port,Chronicles, and he put a X68000 option there too. I feel like the X68000 Castlevania is the best of what the series originally represented. After that I think Haunted Castle and Super Castlevania 4 are tops. Bloodlines,Dracula X on SNES and DUO both :P,and SOTN Saturn version are tied in my books.
-
PCE Dracula X for me, with a close second to Castlevania 4 (flailing the whip around is great fun, but the rotating rooms are ghey).
-
Seldane, whats different about the PSX version of the X68000 game or is it just the psx controller you don't like? I'm playing through that one now original mode) and it seems exactly like the emulated version I have (but I've never played it on real x68000 hardware obviously). I've read that there are some super minor changes like sound effects or something? I agree though, that game completely rules, but it's so damned hard. Definitely the hardest Castevania game I've ever played. The music isn't very good though, I don't know what's up with that, even with the original FM sound it just isn't that great compared to other Castlevanias.
My vote was a toss up between Super Castlevania IV and Bloodlines, but I went with Bloodlines since it's fresher in my memory having just beaten it a few weeks ago. Rondo of Blood is great, but its WAY too damned easy for a traditional Castlevania game.
-
I have only played the PAL version of Chronicles, and it's got some issues. Poor frame rate, etc. And yeah, the PS1 controller definitely ruins it too (I recently bought an alternate d-button for PS controllers though, that one will surely make things more enjoyable. I put one on my PSP and it's a world of difference, will do it on my PS2 pad as well). I think I've read that the NTSC version is better. It's definitely hard, but that's part of what makes it so much fun. Unmatched level design in that one. They really outdid themselves.
-
Here's a photo of the tape-on d-pad that I mentioned in my previous post. I recommend this to all PS1/2/3/P players. You just tape it on the d-pad on the controller for any of these systems and it works just as great as a SNES controller! It seems like a crap idea to just tape it on, but really, it sits really tight thanks to the "tape cushions" that are included and it works great.

Makes playing games on the PSP possible! (Yes, that's Pcenginefx in the reflection, what else?)
-
I voted for "There has never been a good Castlevania game. But I like Connect Four!" since I don't really enjoy Castlevania games a whole lot and Connect Four kicks ass.
-
SNES Dracula X FTW.
-
LOL at snes dracula x, there always has to be one joke option in every poll.
-
If there was a top three i list it like this.
1.Dracula X Rondo Blood
2.Super Castlevania IV
3.Castlevania 3 Dracula Curse

Where would I find such an item? Ebay? I might want one for my PSP.
-
1.Dracula X Rondo Blood
2.Super Castlevania IV
3.Castlevania 3 Dracula Curse
For me its a virtual Tie between Drac X (PCE) and SCIV (SNES) so I gave the snes classic some love, due to most peeps here voting for Drac X.
lol
here would be a possible top 3 list-
1. Super Castlevania IV
2. Dracula X (PCE)
3. Castlevania III NES
And to you keranu- [-X How could you not enjoy castlevania games! We must convert u!

I don't hate them or anything, but they just never really excited me. They're all decent games, but they just haven't appealed to me much.
-
He's too busy playing classics like Insector X and Sesame Street ABCs to play Castlevania. The man has priorities.
-
Damn straight 8) .
-
Not everyone likes Castlevania...I wonder how people will like our "secret" game? ](*,)
-
this thread inspired me to sit down with Rondo of Blood today and have it out with Death himself in the Clock Tower.

Are you giving away information about FU's secret game here, nod?

-
rondo is definitely my favorite with the nes version coming in as a close second.

I'd probably would have gone in that order as well.
Still i do like, SCV IV alot still thanks to it's sound track and huge sprites.
-
Chronicles on the X68000 has some great MT-32 tunes, though nothing quite beats Chi no Rondo in that department.
-
LOL at snes dracula x, there always has to be one joke option in every poll.
Castelvania 64 is clearly the best entry in the entire series.
-
You know, C64 had some really cool parts: the bull fight, the hedge-maze chase, the part where you have to carry the explosive, etc.
It had a lot of throwaway levels and a lot of stupid things (motorcycle-riding skeletons) too, and I ultimately got rid of it. But it wasn't the complete dud it was made out to be.
-
Castlevania 64 is one of the best games for the format (and that's saying a lot). It got great reviews too, it wasn't made out to be a "dud" at all. Well, at least not here.
-
Where is "here"? In the US, it was frowned upon and none of the cool kids would dare buy the game. Later a law was passed where everyone who owned Castlevania 64 had to be lined up to receive a swift kick in the nuts. The owners gladly obliged since they knew they deserved it for buying such a dud.
-
I always assumed Seldane was in the UK... :-k

Why kick 'em in the nuts? Because they didn't buy one of the hundreds of other great N64 games instead? I say give 'em a boot to the pills for buying a N64 in the first place.

Hmmmm.... and I always thought that Seldane was in his own little world were nearly every game sucks sweaty sacks. :-k ..... :D
-
Actually I do live in my own little world. :)

Hey now, I bought a brand new Pikachu N64 at TRU when it went on sale for $50 thank you very much! Normally I wouldn't do such a thing, but, I'm crazy, so, I got the Pokemon one  And there's about 10 or so good games, that I don't regret buying, like Mischeif Makers, & Paper Mario, & even though I didn't like FPS's, I do like Golden Eye & Perfect Dark!

Yes, that was another law. An MAN did it hurt like hell!!! But I deserved it for daring to buy that turd of a console. The kick in the nuts was just adding injury to insult.

Same. ^_^
-
Pikachu N64 looks cool, but nothing beats those colored transparent systems. They are the most beautiful consoles I've ever seen. I want them all. I have none. I will keep having none, but I will also dream on.

Exactly my point! If anybody was dumb enough to buy a N64, they might as well buy C64, 'cause there just aren't many better choices. C64 suffers from being Konami's first 3d foray and was a definite rush job.
-
Don't forget the C64 version of Castlevania. And the Amiga one. They're both refreshingly horrible.
-
NEVER refer to Castlevania 64 as C64. You'd be insulting one of the most influential computers/consoles of all time.

How is he insulting the X68000? :P
-
CV64. Yeah, I gotta admit, I was getting a little confused at first when I kept seeing people saying C64, cuz I know that's an old comp.
-
Uh, yeah, C64 is so confusing in a thread about Castlevania. Please spell everything out for me, 'cause I don't know how to read for context. Don't use CV64 either, or everyone will think that you're referencing the U.S.S. Constellation. :)

Never heard of CV64 as a constellation, but, I know everytime I saw C64, for a second or 2 atleast, I first bring to mind, a computer, not a Castlevania game, which I usually see as CV.

I thought someone had made a Castlevania game for the C64. :P You're all confusing me, freaks!
And is it so bloody hard to just say it all outright? I mean shit, Castlevania is not a long word. Furthermore, it's not even CALLED Castlevania 64!
-
nod, I wasn't kidding before - there IS a Castlevania game for Commodore 64! There's even an Amiga Castlevania game. Both are pretty bad ports of the NES game though.

You're right. It's JUST called "Castlevania". Saying that wouldn't be confusing at all. :D

Not as a constellation, but as the Constellation - as in aircraft carrier.
Screw it. From now on, Castlevania for Nintendo 64 shall be referred to as "Akumajō Dracula Mokushiroku" or as "Castlevania for Nintendo 64". This proclamation has been made law and will be strictly enforced. Any transgressors will be given thirty lashes with a wet noodle or one hour of playtime with Night Trap (whichever is more painful). So it is written, so shall it be - at least in my little cubedom.
Furthermore, there is no such thing as a C64 computer; there are, however, Commodore 64 computers. :P
