Remember in Golgo 13 how Gold and Silver killed like 1000 guys on some island, but they couldn't finish off an injured Golgo?  Man that movie sucked, haha.  And yeah, Billy Idol rules, white wedding is awesome.

I like Billy Idol, but I'm not a huge fan. I can't remember how consistent his albums were, but I do like the popular one with "eyes without a face" and a bunch of his other hits. It's probably his biggest-seller ("Rebel Yell")... that entire album has good songs, IIRC.

I have listened to his later albums and they didn't make much of an impression... maybe I'd be more forgiving of them now, but at the time I was pretty disappointed.

I will listen to Billy Idol on the radio when it's on, but I don't own anything by him.

The 80's was awesome for the rock that came out during the period. I also enjoy 70's music quite a bit, too. Both decades are far better than the shitstream pop rock that permeated the 90's and beyond.

Some of my favorites from that era:

Van Halen
Queensryche (pre-1991)
Blue Oyster Cult
Black Sabbath
Pink Floyd
Faith No More
Dokken
Queen
AC/DC

There are many others I enjoy but those are probably at the top of my list... Skid Row had some cool songs, I have a few on mixes I made, but no complete albums.

Eyes without a face is Billy Idol's best song, imho.

Oh the 80's. Lots to love about the 80's.  The rock was great, the pop was great, the rap spread like wild fire with ZERO airplay.  One of the most phenominal periods in music.  The artistry in the mainstream music left a little to be desired, but there are some solid artists that came out of the decade as well.

Word.  Though I do like some metal stuff that caught on in the 90s.  (Pantera, Rammstein, etc.)

Billy Idol put out a few good tunes - Eyes Without a Face, White Wedding, Flesh For Fantasy, Cradle of Love, among others.  I don't get much enjoyment out of his later stuff though.

Yeah, drugs and alcohol never have a positive effect on one's life.
Bullshit!  I've successfully taught my liver to enjoy martinis (shaken, stirred, and guzzled).  :)

On the 10 Year DVD, you go to the radio, and like one the third button you get to hear him recording the lines, it's hilarious because they keep on laughing! "As the Supersounds of the 70's weekend keeps on...truckin'..." :)

Thanks for being the only one who got that.

Yeah, when she's doing her thing on the bed I typically can't stand up for at least 15 minutes afterwards.

The absolute best song for rollin' in your mullet chariot would have to be Skynyrd's Free Bird.

Just the opposite here, I can't sit down afterwards (they call me tripod).

But you did.

Your musical tastes look to be quite similar to mine. So here's a couple questions for a fellow Halen and Sabbath fan... Hagar or Roth? Ozzy or Ronnie? Both groups put out some killer music regardless of who had the mic, but I'd have to go against the grain and say I like Hagar and Ronnie best. Sabbath's best album is clearly Heaven & Hell, hands down. In a similar vein, Van Halen was more "consistently" strong with Sammy Hagar. Not to mention I always prefer singers that actually have some vocal talent. Don't get me wrong: Paranoid and 1984 are two of my favorite albums, but....

Do you like Queensryche? I bet you would, at least their earlier stuff (pre-1991). Operation Mindcrime is one of the greatest albums of all time.

Queensryche is great. I prefer Van Halen over Van Hagar, but I like Sammy hagar's solo albums over David Lee Roth's solo albums. And I like Black Sabbath with Ozzy or Ronnie equal, even though they don't sound the same.

That's because David Lee Roth has little talent as a singer. Without Van Halen, he isn't much at all. He gets points for being the VH original, but that's not enough for me. What if Sammy Hagar had been the original?

I have more respect for Ozzy than I do for Dave, but because Heaven & Hell is also one of the best albums ever made, Ronnie James Dio is therefor the best.

I like BS with Ronnie as much as Ozzy. Plus, I am not ashamed to admit I like Dio. When I was a little kid, I had one of those black felt Dio posters (demon swingin' a chain, or something like that) ... I put it in a really old-skool, gaudy, gold plaster frame. It was awesome. Iron Maiden posters looked deflated next to it.

Cinderella, though, stomps all over Sabbath and Dio.

I like anything Mindcrime and earlier. I have Empire also and it's not too bad but I haven't heard anything later (except for a select song here and there and O:M2). Have you heard Mindcrime II? An awesome followup, even if it took them 20 years to make it.

For the VH question:  Gary Sherone.  Why you ask?  Because his live rendition of "Romeo's Delight" is one of the best live performed songs I've EVER heard.  I've been to hundreds of shows, and that was one of the most electrifed performances I have seen.

But Gary Sherone doesn't count because he was only in the band for 5 minutes.

I always thought his singing style with VH sounded like he was trying to imitate Sammy Hagar anyway (I used to own the album "Van Halen III").

I always thought he sounded like Gary Sherone singing for Van Halen.  Eddie did a horrible job engineering that album.  I wish he would have let their long time engineer do that album too.  Balance and VH3 sound very disconnected and I kind of stopped following or listening to Van Halen after Sherone "left."

To be fair, I've never listened to anything else he's done. So maybe he always sounds like he's trying to imitate Sammy Hagar.

Balance is an absolutely awesome album, but I know what you mean about the mastering. It has a much less "polished" sound than their earlier work. But I don't know, I kind of like it, it adds to the atmosphere of the songs.
