Title: forum growth
Post by: nat on June 07, 2007, 07:56:20 AM
Just an idle observation: Click on "More Stats" at the bottom of the main forum page here and then scroll to the bottom.

Check out the growth these forums have seen in just 8 months.

We went from 1382 new messages in November '06 to 3781 new messages last month.

Meaningless posts like these contribute greatly.  YAY!

I wonder how much growth can be attributed to the Virtual Console.  :-k

Best Statistic = Average Intelligent and Germane Posts Per Day: 0.00082.  This post did not increase that average, and that word doesn't mean 'pertaining to Jackson'.

There was a huge growth from like 2005 to 2006, Aaron posted the statistics in some thread. Before 2005, these forums were pretty slow.

It's obviously been more active as of late. I've been far too active myself, I need to stop posting so much here. For myself, but more importantly for you guys. :o

Me too.

As a matter of fact, that very same page gives us all sorts of useful information. The primary offenders of spending too much time here: runinruder (does he have a life? ), thumpin_termis, Necromancer, Keranu, Tron, Black_Tiger, yours truly, td741 (who the f*ck is this guy? for someone who never posts he sure spends a whole hell of a lot of time here), Seldane, and last and very much least Kitsunexus.

Stats are so much fun! Whee!

Hmmm... I don't spend that much time on this forum.  I'm just stay logged in all day while I spend the day looking at porn working.  It's all right with me if Robert Garcia's butler lurks in the shadows of pcenginefx.

I wouldn't be surprised if TG16 on the Wii Virtual Console has helped these forums develop over the past few months.  I mean, look at the forums now.  There is like 5 people on minimum nowadays.  Not that that's a bad thing, mind you. :)

I'm just glad to see the TG16 back in the VG spotlight once again and bringing over new fans! Viva la Wii!

Title: Re: forum growth
Post by: td741 on June 08, 2007, 02:58:36 AM
I'm not even sure if it's worthwhile posting since the thread changed subject. :P

The reason I'm always online is that I leave my browser open at the office and this machine never shuts down.

That said, I don't tend to post since:
- I'm usually on when I'm at work and I don't always have the time to post.
- I sometimes just don't have anything to say.
- When I do have something to say, I generally don't bother since the thread changed topics. Therefore, I've taken the habit of only reading the last 3-4 posts in each thread and see if I've got anything to add.  :-"

Last time I posted before I was mentioned in this thread, was May 28th, 2007.  It's not like I'm not posting at all.

Sorry to dredge up an old topic, but I figured it was better to use one of my old threads than create a brand new thread based on the exact same thing.

Looks like January '08 broke all sorts of records for the pcenginefx forums. Most new users ever to sign on in a month and by far the most new messages posted in a 31-day period.

Hahaha, I don't do phone calls. I work as a retail supervisor for a large company. I do sales analysis, GPL reports, margins, etc. I also do a bit of field work, but the former is the stuff I do at my desk.

I get paid a flat salary regardless of the hours I work.

That's why I said it's on my own time if I end up putting in extra hours because I'm online here talking to you guys all day. I'm not costing the company any money. As long as I get my volume reports and such turned in on time nobody takes a second glance.

An no, I'm not currently going to college because my salary is pretty decent as it is and I don't really need any more education.

Sunny Seattle!

You guys are weird, no offense. I had one dude from Seattle (which he stated about 40 times), well, to be nice, it was obvious he liked other men. He COULD NOT STOP telling me about the French cusine he was eating, how he sells his art for money, how he lived in a rainforest for a couple of months, how the government was a bunch of "old f*ckers" when he was a page boy and bla bla bla.... He also was very insecure and LOVED to brag about himself, how he speaks 7 languages, how he knew cellphones in and out, etc...

I couldn't even use the line "If there's nothing else T-Mobile related I must release the call" because he would stop these crazy stories in order to ask about the Blackberry, if we had satellite phones, etc...

He finally just hung up during the middle of the conversation, I'm guessing by accident, and so 35 minutes from when he first started, I was free.

Portland is the new San Francisco.

Also, I have never actually met a Canadian who said 'eh'.  But then again, all the Canadians I met were from the Prairies.

Actually "eh" isn't that common in Nova Scotia. It's really an Ontario thing and in some of the praries. But Wikipedia actually talks about it:

Quote from Wiki:

Canada

The only usage of eh? that is exclusive to Canada, according to the Canadian Oxford Dictionary, is for "ascertaining the comprehension, continued interest, agreement, etc., of the person or persons addressed" as in, "It's four kilometres away, eh, so I have to go by bike." In that case, eh? is used to confirm the attention of the listener and to invite a supportive noise such as "Mm" or "Oh" or "Okay". It essentially is an interjection meaning, "I'm checking to see you're listening so I can continue."

"Eh" can also be added to the end of a declarative sentence to turn it into a question. For example: "The weather is nice." becomes "The weather is nice, eh?" This same phrase could also be taken as "The weather is nice, don't you agree?".

Depending on the speaker's tone or the dialectal standard, eh can also be perceived as rude or impolite, as "Repeat that!", and not a request.

Further examples of Canadian usage include: "I know, eh?" (Agreement), "Yeah, eh?" (Agreement; tone of voice changes meaning slightly). "I know. Eh!" (Pause between 'know' and 'eh' and emphasise 'eh'. This is an excited agreement.) Although technically questions, these are also said as statements.

The usage of "eh" in Canada is often mocked in the United States, where some view its use as a stereotypical Canadianism. Many Canadians dispute its use (for example, singer Don Freed in his song "Saskatchewan" declares "What is this 'Eh?' nonsense? I wouldn't speak like that if I were paid to."). There are many merchandise items on the market today that use this phrase, such as t-shirts and coffee mugs.

It is often joked about by Canadians as well, and is sometimes even a part of the national identity[1]. For example, a Canadian national team is sometimes referred to as the "Eh? team." Likewise, at one of their concerts, a member of the Canadian Brass, referring to their arrangement of the jazz standard, "Take the A Train," said that they'd considered calling it "Take the train, eh?"

The 2004 edition of the Canadian Oxford Dictionary states that "eh" is used most frequently by residents of Manitoba, Ontario, and New Brunswick, somewhat less frequently in Quebec, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, and the three territories, and rarely if ever in Nova Scotia, Alberta and Newfoundland. This may reflect cultural differences among the provinces, perhaps including the physical distance between various areas of Canada and major American population centres.

I find myself using the "I know, eh?" a lot. hehe

Example:

- "Vista sucks!"

- "I know, eh?"

I see protests all the time, I hate those people.  They all look exactly the f*cking same- converse shoes, tight black jeans, lots of stupid wrist bands, a retarded beanie with pigtails, etc.  f*cking ridiculous.

hehe. J'ai besoin de plus de pratique avec mon français, mais il n'y a pas beaucoup des francophones ici en Halifax.](*,)

I was surprised in wiki how they said "eh" is used "somewhat less frequently in Quebec". I guess all the anglophones in Montreal are using it. heh

I wouldn't really know about usage in Montreal, since I'm in Ottawa (I'm a Franco-Ontarian.)

Oh cool. I was born in Ottawa, and I might be moving back sometime soon. I'm definitely going to go up for a week or so in a couple weeks. Going to job hunt up there and stay at a friends.

Here's a Canadian sterotype fact:

Any Canadian you meet abroad will always point out how that celebrity xyz that just popped out on the tube is Canadian for the umpteenth time, all while rest of the crowd from different nations look each other with that "I really didn't give a f*ck" look.  :)

Seriously, I've must of come across this symptom from about a dozen Canadians (including my wife) while I was living in Korea & Japan.  :)

Yeah, that is definitely true. We know it too.  We just can't help our Hollywood inferiority complex. hehe. I think it's starting to fade slowly though as it is becoming more common to have Canadians break through into Hollywood.

As long as I get my volume reports and such turned in on time nobody takes a second glance.

What about TPS reports?

  LOL I was thinking the same thing!!

I think the funniest part of that movie for me was hearing that Ice Cube song "creep" while they were pulling the e-caper...

Bah! I am merely the yin to your turbo fanboy yang, the great equalizer of biased opinion that stems from blowing our allowance on the system 17 years ago and backing it 100% until they pry the controller from our hands on our death beds while we proclaim "it's still better than genesis!!! and it can do parallax too! really!!"

The PC Engine could do parallax scrolling so well that it made the Genesis look like it had but a single screen which couldn't even move.
