Title: Various Newb questions for your amusement
Post by: lbblue on July 31, 2007, 12:16:41 PM
Hi
New to the PCE scene, and to the boards.
Got me a basic PCE on the way from from pinkgodzillagames.
Now that it's too late to ask, has any one had any experience with them?

More questions :
I find myself interested in HuCard games exclusively : am I the wierdo , or are there others like me?
Can anyone point me to a list of games which use the PCE mouse? (Populous, I hope...)
Is there a reliable place online to buy some cheap games, besides eBay (which is rarely cheap), and here, which I assume is intermittent?

If I were to place a modded Saturn (plays ALL games) w/2 original controllers, including the 3-D controller!, a couple of games, plus a TON of "backup" (LOL) games on the PCE sale/trade board to trade for PCE ... stuff...
would I have any takers ( I can give greater details if so), or a ban/lock? ](*,)

Thanks everyone !
dw

You aren't going to get banned for offering a Saturn in trade for PCE or TurboGrafx stuff. Using our boards to exclusively peddle Saturn stuff might be frowned upon, but offering it up in trade for something PCE-related shouldn't be a problem.

That's something I've been wondering.  I have other stuff to sell, but never figured out quite where to put it.  Like where would I put an iPod?

People often include games & hardware for other consoles in for-sale postings that include mostly PCE/Turbo stuff. With the volume of games you seem to sell on here, I don't think it'd be a problem if you tacked on the odd Dreamcast game or iPod to your listings.

It's when we starting seeing exclusively non-Turbo listings that problems arise.

Of course, Keranu is going to have the final power of veto in that department.

:-"  Hmmm.  I am one of those wierdos.  I got into the TG scene because I like the HU Cards.  I was collecting Atari Lynx stuff because of the little cards.  I've always liked them.

I have never played a TG or PC Engine CD based game.  Super Grafx... or anything like that.  Nothing but HU Cards (US versions at that).

However, I just ordered a PC Engine Duo-R.  All that is about to change.  I still love my HU Cards though.  I simply find them more collectable than the cd games of the modern systems.  :)  Perhaps that will change soon.

In my box with the games and stuff.  ;)   LOL

Just kidding.

So, no Hucard mouse games. I guess that would be too much to ask... #-o

I was the same. I got a PC Engine for the games and the coolness of Hu Cards. Best thing I ever did was get the SUper CD2 unit. No Gate of Thunder? No Winds of Thunder? No RayXanber III? No Spriggan? No Wonder Boy III? Unthinkable. The CD list goes on and on...

I say if you're going to sell something non-Turbo/PCE releated, sell it in the Console Chat (http://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?board=12.0) forum. If you're selling Turbo/PCE stuff with it, then include the items and sell it in either the Turbo or PCE selling forums.

Specifically, I want to trade non-PCE stuff for PCE stuff. I would assume, logically, that the PCE trade/sell would have the most viewers with PCE stuff to trade.
However, if you are saying that i cannot, i will not, with no further discussion.
Thanks

He's not. He's saying if you're trying to sell non-Turbo/PCE stuff for cash exclusively, post it in Console Chat.

Since your goal is to gain a PCE as a result of the trade, go ahead and post it in the PCE For Sale/Wanted forum.

Regarding CD games, I remember them getting weak reviews in british magazines at the time, and looking at CD-Rom games on various websites, a lot of them seem to be RPG games, which don't interest me too much. I can't understand why Rainbow Islands is a Cd-ROM game while the sequel Parasol Stars isn't.

Funny enough, Rainbow Islands was released in 1993, two years after the release of its sequel, Parasol Stars.

Perhaps it's because Rainbow Islands was developed by NEC Avenue, whereas PS was made by Taito themselves.

It's further compounded by the fact that Parasol Stars has superior graphics and sound to Rainbow Islands despite being released years earlier and lacking Red Book audio!

Yeah, you could argue Rainbow Island's graphics are just duplicating the arcade but I think they could have spruced things up a little. And that song that everyone loves so much, "Over the Rainbow" or whatever will drive you insane by about Level 2. I think it was a blessing most other ports didn't get that song.

In case you haven't noticed, I'm not a big fan of Rainbow Islands. Parasol Stars kicks ass though. Rainbow Islands doesn't even have a 2 player mode! What kind of Bubble Bobble game doesn't feature 2 player?

Thanks !
It's nice to get permission, even if I don't need it !
Now i've got to get off my butt and go photo my Saturn. I'd be more motivated if I knew someone was interested, though... well, c'est la vie !

BTW, I got my PCE from Pink Godzilla (google) and it seems to work - no games yet, though, so I can't swear to it. But, if anyone is interested in a PCE sans cables (with controller, though) for $55 shipped (1/3 what I've seen on eBay), check them out. Fast shipping too !

Pink Godzilla is located right near me.

Their walk-in store is killer, definitely the best I know of in the Seattle area.

Must be nice. On the East Coast, at least in my area, there is no such thing as a store with import games. In fact, we're nearly overrun with Gamestops ](*,)
