I'm just curious to see what some of you guys would chose to be your definitive favorite of all time..
-
Of all consoles ever made...
And I've thought long and hard about this one....
I chose Panzer Dragoon Saga as it truly is still a master piece each and every time I play it.
So I chose Panzer Dragoon Saga on Sega Saturn.
-
Insector X.
-
Well, lets put it like this,I try to imagine a game I can't live without, one I knew Id miss more then anything if I could never have it again, and that game would be.......
Time Killers,the arcade version.
-
Awww man, this is hard!
It comes down to Star Fox Adventures or the original Unreal Tournament, but since SFA has near dick replay value, I'm going with
UNREAL TOURNAMENT (PC)
-
Super Monkey Ball (Gamecube version)
-
Sonic th3 Hedgehog 8)
-
#-o SuperMarioBrothers3
nothing else even comes close ( sorry to have to reveal this timeless truth on pcenginefx boards)
Honestly, every other game I have ever played, on any system : I play it, I put it away. i might come back, i might not, doesn't matter. But SMB3, I always come back to. It just does not get old.
-
That's a very hard decision to make. Can I just say something from the Street Fighter series? I'm just not sure which version. I can see me playing SF on and off for the rest of my days.
If I'm not allowed that, what about Tempest 2000/3000?
-
Gundarn - Street Fighter (ANy version) 'nuff said?
funny.....not a single Turbo game mentioned yet.....
For those that are interested:
When I chose Panzer Saga it was truly a toss up between Y's Book I & II, Super Castlevania IV, and Panzer...
-
Tough call.
I guess the game that made the longest-lasting impression on my nerdy life was Ys Book I & II. The ending never fails to bring a tear to my eye, since I'm a nostalgic wuss.
But Final Fantasy X made an even stronger impression in a lot of ways when I played it as an adult nerd and probably had an even more significant impact, just sans the nostalgic "when I was thirteen" stuff.
But FFX could've been improved in some ways, and surely I should try to be a bit "objective" in my decision here. And speaking objectively, Ocarina of Time is the closest a game has come to "perfection" in my view.
But as much as I love Ocarina, I've only bothered to play through it like twice, and surely replay value and time spent with a game should be major factors in this decision. I played through Star Ocean 2 no fewer than four million times, devoting a good billion hours to it.
But I haven't picked up SO2 in ages, and I'm a man of the moment. And the game that I've had the most fun with recently is Violent Soldier. Or is it Sinistron? See, there's the problem. The two versions are different enough that I can't consider them one and the same, and the rules of this topic clearly state that I must select a single title, "PERIOD."
So I choose Tenshi no Uta.
-
Spikeout. Prefer Final Edition (arcade), but I guess the Xbox ver would work too since it's practically the same game.
-
Phantasy Star.
-
Super Mario Bros. 3 - It's a fun game.
-
Far East Of Eden/Tengai Makyou: Fuun Kabuki Den
-
Space f*cking Harrier.
-
I was going to say that just due to nostalgia (I can still play that game all day). But Super Monkey Ball (Gamecube version) kicks my ass just a little more. Dudeness-o-rama, you MUST get the Saturn version of Space Harrier with a freakin' Mission Stick. It's better than being at the arcade (since you will be surrounded by much fewer losers).
-
Daimakaimura
-

I haven't played the saturn version, but I do own the 32x version which is better than the arcade :D I believe that it is a direct port AND it runs flawlessly on the 32x
-
Balloon Fight *
* Best balloon-based video game ever.
-
Ys I&II
But Space Harrier comes damn close.
-
Quake II - BFG up ya ass edition... or Ys I & II... or Bomberman (indecisive douche, ain't I?).

Quake 2 in software, opengl,or Glide? I only run it in Glide, nuthin else.

Unfortunately 3dfx is long gone, so I'll stick with opengl (but I ain't picky).

Build a extra comp just for stuff like this with a 3DFX card in it. My current Glide/3DFX based comp is a totally redone Dell Dimension, with a 40 gig hard drive for the main and a secondary 8 gig hd for back up files. Has 256 megs Pc 133 ram by Micron,a LG Cd-r burner,a 3DFX Voodoo 4500 AGP card and a Sound Blaster Live. All powered by the mighty (back then) Pentium 3 1GHZ 133fsb cpu on a Intel i815 board and a Windows ME install. Tonight I was running Heavy Metal Fakk2,Alien vs Predator 2,and V-Rally 2 on it. Runs like a charm. Nothing extra is on the thing other then Firefox and Winrar.
-
Grand Theft Auto 3.... so revolutionary
it is what began my love for the gta franchise
-
Super Monkey Ball (Gamecube version).
-
The Super Monkey Ball 2 title song is right up there with Jazz Jackrabbit 2 as one of my favorite title songs.
-
I gotta go with Space Harrier too. I've been playing this game for over 20 years and I still love it. It's a magical game.
-
Color a Dinosaur
-
Color a Dinosaur

NES (http://www.mobygames.com/game/color-a-dinosaur)

Yoshi's Island (SNES).
-
Guess I`ll chime in here.Mine will change every few years.First it was Super Mario Bros 3 nes,Than it was Chrono Trigger,A few years latter it was Resident Evil 2,Than few years latter it was Halo for the xbox. Now its Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines for the pc.So that should tell you how old I am.If Bio Shock is any good when it comes out this month, maybe my mind will change again.
-
NES (http://www.mobygames.com/game/color-a-dinosaur)
wow, that game looks like fun :)
-

It's not. Digital coloring books = lame.

I'd have to play it. Digital math competition games don't sound like fun either, but The Electric Company Math Fun for Intellivision kicks ass.
Mario Paint is also cool, but what I liked most about it was the animation feature.
-

Oh hell yes. It is my favorite Intellivision game. 8)

Tommy Tallarico made the music for Color-A-Dinosaur... XD

I like Donkey Kong Jr. Math 8)

Hm, tough decision between Final Fantasy VI and Daimakaimura, but since there is no game other than Daimakaimura which I played through 100+ times , I think I go for that!
Great demon world village, saikou!!
-
TurboSage, you need to update your initial message seeing as how Space Harrier now has two votes as well.

Doh!!
Sorry bro,
Done and Done!
-
Wow, turbo_sage, your avatar makes me harder than Alex Kidd for the SEGA Genesis! =P~
-
Wow, that's pretty hard because I've heard how Alex Kidd make you REALLY hard.
-
Way to ruin a semi-funny joke, Joe.
And for the record I'd NEVER go for Alex Kidd. He has Ross Perot ears. (http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1059/1056813466_f794e31f62_o.png)
-
wow, is that turbo sage's hot sister in his avatar?
-
What else could your post have meant other than Alex Kidd makes you horny? If you meant difficulty, you should have said Lords of Thunder. Anyone over the age of 3 can beat that without dying the first time they play. Or maybe Sapphire, which is also ridiculously easy.
-

Alex Kidd is INCREDIBLY cheap when it comes to difficulty. Or maybe I just suck. I should have just said Ikaruga anyway. I mean I could have said Lords of Thunder, but why name inferior shooters here?
-
Contra Hard Corpse is pretty tough. Same with Xbox Ninja Gaiden (which I personally hate). Or maybe The Adventures of Batman & Robin for either the Genesis or Sega CD.
-

Looking at his post again, I get what you're saying,. But I knew what he had meant, or did I :-k
-

Contra Hard Corps RULES. But XBOX Ninja Gaiden can f*ck off. The creator is a dick as well.
-
what about ninja gaiden on ps3, that game is cool.
-

LOL.

A tough call. I've played way too many great games...................Final Fantasy VI (SNES) gets my vote.
But I gotta through out some geek love for Ys I&II, Ys IV (PCE Version of course) and Dragon Quest III :)
-
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past SNES. I don't think I have ever played a long game so many times over than this title. My close second would be Final Fantasy 3 US (6 JP). Yes, I grew up hardcore Nintendo.
-
I always liked to bomb houses in that zelda , ahhh, good times :)
-
Starcraft is still great after all these years. A lot of my friends still play and we always pressure any new guy to take up the addiction also. A little while ago i grabbed up alot of old PC stuff and set up a LAn in my attic, and a few guys have laptops to join in also. Watching my tanks pound that jelly outta those poor Dragoons never gets old. Haha....good times
-
So far, the game I'd pick most next to my own is GUTS's Phantasy Star. 8)

I highly prefer the name "Ghouls 'N Ghosts" to Diakamara or whatever the hell it is.
-
I highly prefer the name "Ghouls 'N Ghosts" to Diakamara or whatever the hell it is.
I highly prefer the name "Ghosts 'N Goblins" to "Ghouls 'N Ghosts" and am glad that Ultimate GnG uses the original name. :P
-
I like "Ghouls" better than "Goblins" simply because goblins sounds like much more of a kid's word. Ghouls sounds grown up and kick ass. Plus I think I like the word "Ghouls" better since it represents a FAR better game than "Goblins", Jesus Christ!
-
But what about "Ghosts"?
-
ghosts is so great that it appears in both titles  I like both games anyways, haha.
-
"Ghosts" is great because it means that something scary is in the game. Both games sure scared me! I am scared of ghosts, but they sure are great!
-
ghouls'n'ghosts'n'goblins'n'granmas what ever is for little lassies, and should be ignored by any who love this serie.
-

Thats probably the main reason why I like 'Goblins' better, -its a FAR better game than 'Ghouls' to me. :P
'Ghouls' invokes images of creeps like Herbert from Family Guy for me.
I still like Makaimura better than any of the various titles.
-
You are a Japan-o-phile! English is the best language. None of this Makaimuradai no Yabu stuff! Ghosts 'n Goblins is ass. I don't watch Family Guy, mostly because its not funny. I don't watch The Simpsons, either. Hell I really don't watch any TV at all. I'd rather sit here and tell you why Ghouls 'n Ghosts is the best name and the best game (in the series).
-
I'll go with Street Fighter 2
Although my personal fav is Super Street Fighter 2, but you def need to have the regular before can add in the extra characters.
-
Top 3 for me:
3. Skies of Arcadia (GC) - I love the story and gameplay
2. A Link to the Past (SNES) - after about 10 times through I started playing for the music
1. Bonk's Revenge (TG16) - still my favorite Bonk, fav TG, fav overall. Still play it to this day
-

I'm pretty far from being a Japan-o-phile, but I've always like the Makaimura(mock-eye-moo-ra) name and its logo is very cool.
Its no more ricdiculous than Herzog Zwei, El Viento or Ninja Gaiden and certainly better than Ballz, Klax, Sagaia, Quackshot, Shaq Fu, Jammit!, Ristar, Mr Nutz or Taz-Mania.

I've always kind of prefered Goblins too.
-
Nothing is better than Mr. Nutz!
-
Not Mr. Nutz and his ENOURMOUS TAIL!
-
Ys is weird name to english as a first languagers, but I think its still better than "Sword Battlin'".
-
I'd buy it.
Is the name "Ys" Japanese? I doubt it.
-
From what I know, it's from a French story.
-
People still had no idea how to pronounce it in North America. Even though the SMS version had a phonetical diagram on the title screen. :P

I chose Y's Book 1 & 2.

Wow, Sword Battlin' is kicking ass!!
-
Nothin' better than a good ole game of Sword Battlin'!
-
Zanac (msx1 version) :D
http://www.vgmuseum.com/images/msx01/12.html
-
That must be an ultra rare version of Sword Battlin' for NES, as the regular release only contained Book I. :D
