Is there any reason to prefer one over the other, besides aesthetics ?

They are identical other than the wording.

At the time of introduction, I'm pretty sure the main draw was that the CG2 cost less. Kind of like a PS versus a PSOne. There is no difference other than color. Neither CoreGrafx is as nice looking as the original PC Engine, but they actually have AV out.

The CG2 fits into the SuperCDROM contraption a little better.
