Hey all,
Just curious as to how much a Kisado adapter normally sells for.
I recently posted mine on eBay with a BIN of $150, and, much to my surprise, someone BIN'd it 30 minutes after I listed the auction!
I wasn't aware there was that much demand for them, perhaps I should have asked for more! hahahaha
-
That person was stupid.

That person was stupid.
that's certainly an understatement
-
they normally sell for between $50 and $130, well, at least thats what I see them go for. I didn't know that they went for $150 now, haha. Maybe I should sell mine :-k

Hey some people call me KJ!

That estimate may be a little low. I sold my crappy Barney converter and the bidding went over $70 (and that was 2 1/2 years ago when TZD still stocked Mirai adapters!) Granted, I had a nice picture and good feedback, but Barney converters are the worst of the bunch and I even described how it often took five minutes of screwing around to get the thing to work.
After the Miria adapters sold out ($99), TZD sold the "secret stash" of their remaining 5-7 Kisados last summer ($150 IIRC) and I've barely seen them anywhere since. The handful of ones that have turned up are usually part of a larger lot, so prices are hard to judge. A lot of sellers also mislabel their Springboard and Miria adapters; assuming anything that isn't a Barney converter is a "Kisado." These days, I'd say that a well-listed Kisado could fetch $200+ if a seller let the auction run for 7 or 10 days. I saw one go for $250.

Jesus Christ, that's insane.
-
Word... might as well just buy a system.
Jesus Christ, that's insane.
-
Man, I wouldn't pay $250 for a kisado, I bought one ebay a few months ago for $65.00 buy it now. I guess I lucked out
-
that's for sure one crazy shit. they do cost almost more than the entire DUO does.
-
If I can get $250 for my Kisado I'm going to sell it and use the money to buy a Duo-RX.
I'm serious. I paid around $50 for it "back in the day."
-

Almost? Hit Japan regularly has complete Duo Rs for $130.
Converter people are stupid...
-
converters are cool if you don't like moding your system, but $250 for a converter is stupid, haha.
-
Gee, way back when I bought a Kisado straight from Shadoff it didn't cost that much... Sure, it was unwieldy, but it worked great.

Yeah, mine still does. I bought it years ago. But back then it was the economical choice. Today, I'm glad I have it because I'm not a big fan of modding systems. But if I was in the same position today, I would definitely go that route rather than the converter. $250 for a converter is simply unbelievable. I can't believe anyone who can function in today's society would actually pay that much.
I'm seriously considering selling mine if I can get $250 for it, though.

Whoa. I saw one go for that much, but I wouldn't say it's a guarantee. Even so, it's surprising what a difference a good listing and description can make. When I got the US version of Terraforming, I sold my PC Engine disc and got $127 for what is typically a $40 game. I gave a detailed description and history of the game with full compatibility info, the exact price of shipping, two nice pictures and let the auction go for 10 days. I'm sure cheap Kisados will turn up occasionally in lots, BIN, or stupidly listed under something like "TurboGrphix" but most sellers could do pretty well considering the demand.
I'm going off on a tangent here, but I'm always surprised how nothing brings down the price of an auction like including a crappy old TurboGrafx in the picture. A seller can have two hundred dollars worth of turbochips but when they add that worthless console to the lot they end up making ninety bucks...weird.

I can't remember how much I paid for my Barney converter back in the day, but it was probably less than $20 from the local store (this was in the 16-bit days). It has never given me any grief at all until I tried the Arcade Card Pro. Wouldn't work. So I fixed the converter and now it does. The converter works the first time every time without any issues. It's small and I like it. It rocks. Those other adapters stick a mile out of the system for some odd reason which I can't comprehend.
-
The 505 is probably the best looking converter--like the Barney but US-Duo black. Strangely, the picture on the NEC compatibility guide is missing the cover.

The orange kisado was designed to be compatible with all 3 North American systems. Apparently some of the shorter ones won't work with the TE or Duo.
-
The barney works, but the plastic case blocks the hucard lock from sliding into place on the Duo so you can't turn the power on. This problem can be solved by smashing a hole in the back of the shell.
I don't know if the 505 has the same problem.
-
my barney has all kinds of holes in the back shell :(
-
My Barney has a slot for the card-lock when the power flips on. Not sure if the previous owner did that or if it came like that when it was new (I bought it used at a game store). The purple casing comes apart easily so you can use it in a Duo or TE. I'd definitely rather have a black case, though.
-
I thought the Kisado was designed before the Duo was sold in the US. Am I wrong?

No way, purple all the way!

I'm pretty sure it wasn't sold until 1995 or so. I could be totally wrong, but I'm pretty sure it owes its existence to the Turbo Mailing List, which itself doesn't predate the Duo (1992).

I think you're right, there's an old Turbo-list page about it here:
http://turbo.mindrec.com/files/kisado.info
It was sold through TZD so it would definitely be after 1994.
And considering this frickin' diving board just sold for $164, it would seem kisados are in the $200 range.

I bought my orange Kisado with SFIICE from a store other than TZD before I got a Turbo Duo. It was summer, so unless it was the same year and the Duo got released several months earlier in the U.S. than in Canada, the Kisado does predate the Turbo Duo system.
Which means that the orange version was for the Turbo Express and the green is only supposed to work on the TG-16.
-
My green diving board does not work on my duo. I've noticed that some diving boards are modified with a yellow wire that fixes the compatibility problem.
-
Hey all. :) New here. Just bought a Turbo Duo on Ebay after salivating =P~ over them since they came out. haha. I only had a TG 16 back then. Anyway it is "near mint" and came with the original box. The seller was going to throw in Dracula X for $100 but I wanted to put that money towards other games. Either way I would have had regrets. :-({|= heh
I bought Gate of Thunder 3..er..4 in one, 3 copies of Y's I and II (one is Jap), Fighting Street, Final Zone II and Valis II for around $60. Not bad I guess. I also nabbed a copy of Nexzr Special Summer Carnival....I LOVE IT!!! and a few HuCard games: Galaga 90, Raiden and Dungeon Explorer.
Anyways, sorry for the sidetrack there :-# heh.
I think I actually saw that converter up there on Ebay. I was scratching my head over it for a little while, but I've banned myself from buying anymore stuff for a little while after my little Turbo spending spree. hehe. I'm glad I did too though. I would FAR soon grab a PC Engine or a Coregrafx II before buying something like that. Those converters look pretty fragile.
Anyways, I'm glad there is a nice site like this for us NEC fans.

thats a good deal you got on all those games. Prices seem to be going up on that 3 or 4 in one cd

Yeah, I've noticed a couple going around recently that were BIN for around $94. However, I did forget to mention that Valis II and Final Zone II don't have instructions. :-" hehe. But I was just concerned really with getting some quick Turbo game action goin' on. hehe. We're talkin' over 10 years away from ANY TG/Duo games. The only action I got was from this site and Youtube. ](*,) And that would just make me want it more. lol #-o
I still need to get Dracula X and Dungeon Explorer II. DE II goes for pretty reasonable prices I've been finding. Though I think there's an DE II auction up right now for BIN $94. [-X Which is odd when there is another BIN for $29.

That's the difference between a US and a Japanese release.
-
Ahhhhhh. Yes. I think what threw me off is that the cover art is identical. Usually NEC got rid of the cool Japanese cover art and used some of the worst art I have ever been witness to. heh
Thanks for clearing that up.
Is there much Japanese in that version? I think I remember reading somewhere that the cut-scenes are in Japanese but the menus are in English (mostly).

Thanks man. :) It's just fun to chat with fellow Turbo fans. We're a rare breed.

Its totally playable for english players. You're not missing much since its not a story heavy game, although Working Designs did do a good job on the voices. But the Turbo version isn't worth the price if you're not a Turbo/PCE fanatic who spends a ton of money on the junk.

Cool. Fanatic is such a relative term though. Most of my friends get a kick out of the fact that I shelled out coin for an old console. #-o hehe. But hey, it keeps me outta trouble during the weekends....sometimes...
Seriously though, I'm the fanatic that would be satisfied playing the PC Engine Duo version. :) The winter is soon coming and I need some fresh adventure games. Though I have yet to really get into Y's I and II. LET THE SNOW FALL!! :D
