Title: Are there any games that fall anywhere near the "Western" genre on PC-Engine?
Post by: rag-time4 on August 31, 2007, 08:04:40 AM
I've looked and looked, but I haven't seen any yet...

Anyone know?

Not exactly sure what you mean. Do you mean like genres that are popular in the west (such as first person shooters) or games that have a western theme to them?

Monbit has tipis, but I don't know if the game qualifies as a western.  There is some rpg or digital comic that is a western (horses and everything!), but I can't remember what the heck it's called.

I don't remember a wild west world in the SNES or Genesis version!

Any leads on the digital comic would be much appreciated!

Thanks again for the info so far!

Fiend Hunter is pretty western-y.

You cannot get more "Western" than JJ & Jeff. Those two Americans (and let me be the first to claim that JJ is from Southern California and Jeff is from New Jersey) are wild and crazy (80's) guys.

Otherwise, Dungeon Master Theron's Quest, Beyond Shadowgate, Loom, Sherlock Holmes 1 & 2, It Came from the Desert, Gunboat, Falcon, SimEarth, etc. are very "Western" games.

in the game "Bakushou Yoshimoto No Shinkigeki" there is a whole level designed in western theme. by the way, this is probably one of the most unknown game i believe. it's so damn cheap but damn funny (kind of SFC tiny toons for the PCE).

here's a screen out from the western level:

This might be the one that I was thinking of.  The screen shots on pcecp.com look familiar, but the game is described as a mix of sci-fi and western.  :-k

rolf. i like the scene where he has to drink all the water through a stroh, and then lurching down the street while squirting out all the water again

also funny are those first tries of QTE action in the game, almost 10 years before shen mue used it.

Horror Story for Pc Engine.Level three had A Western theme.Even though I think the game only consisted of three levels. There was some other game that had a western seen.Think the game was called La Place No more or something.

QTE is Quick Time Event, like in Resident Evil 4 when a button flashes on screen and you have to hit in in time to avoid damage.

Thank you!

I think I've seen those in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance.

Awesome! I'll have to pick these up if they're not too pricey. Thanks for the info!

PCECP.com has the second title as "laplace no ma"

I would not spend all that much on Horror Story. It`s really not A very good game.I liked the first level, but the second level just drags on way to damn long. The game is also pretty frustrating, enemies will come off screen and resulting in allot of cheap deaths.I never played Laplace No Ma,but it looked like A western style game.Even though im not trying to detour you from buying either one of these games.

If you don't mind buying from Japan, send Toshi at Dream-stars-Japan an email. He may have another one available. Use the title just like you have it written.
