Ok my package from japan came today  I ripped it open and took the games up to test....well everything was going well until i got to street fighter 2, i'd bought this with the intention of getting a 6 button joypad later...but alas all i got was that nasty no hucard inserted screen :( Does anyone know a way to fix this? i've checked the contacts they look perfect, i'll update my post later with pictures (can't find my camera right now)
-
Clean the everliving hell out of the contacts. Then insert the card.. but don't insert it all the way... just insert it so that you can
just barely close the locking mechanism. Doing that helps me when I get a white screen on boot (happens alot with my SFII cards).
-
I have gave it a good scrub with some alcohol based solution , and i've tried the right up to the green stopper bit.....no luck  the seller told me to give it a good scrub too but nothing
-
Put a piece (or two) of scotch tape or something similar on the back of the card. Supposedly the SF2' cards were made just a touch too thin causing it not to make good contact with the card slot.

Nice suggestion....it didnt work, on closer inspection it looks like the card reader has cut strips through some of the copper contacts, i think this may be the problem, im just going to see if i can get a refund then put it towards buying another copy :-({|=
-
yeah..better buy an other copy, those one are still so f*cking cheap, but what you get for the small pocket is much much more!! :D
-
Of all the things, in order for me to send it back to get a refund its going to cost more to send it there than what i paid for it (yes i got it that cheaply) well atleast all i need now is just a loose SF2 Hucard and i should be set.
The seller guy said that the hucard worked on his pc engine, but it doesnt on mine, that leaves 2 possibilities
1) hes lying..he did offer to replace the hucard if i sent it to japan..he apparetnly just had a spare one lying around
2)My pc engine is on its way out, i really don't want this to be the case since i just got it but that SF2 cart was in much better condition than some other games i've got yet the others play and it doesn't
Is this a common problem with the SF2 hu? I just thought that the more stuff thats in the card the more stuff can go wrong, or do hucards just poop out for no reason?

It's pretty rare for a HuCard cart to "poop out for no reason."
I *do* have a Ghouls 'n Ghosts (SuperGrafx) cart that has corrupted sprite graphics for one single enemy (the vultures in the first area) but is perfectly fine for the rest of the game.
I also have a Spin Pair cart that is completely non-functional (exactly like your SF2).
Someone else, I think Black Tiger, had a problem similar to my GnG issue with a Bonk's Adventure cart a long time ago.
Whoever brought up the fact that the SF2 may be a little thinner than other games is right. When I first got my copy of SF2 it wouldn't start up and I thought I had a bunk copy. I cut a piece of cardboard from a matchbox (very thin cardboard) that was the same size and shape as a HuCard and I have to insert it with the game when I want to play it. It pushes up the cart just enough so it makes contact. I know you already tried the "tape" trick but you might want to try a piece of thin cardboard before you write it off completely.
Beyond that, it's usually only a matter of cleaning the contacts.

You're using a PC Engine and *not* a converter for the TG/DUO, right? If so, it's possible the contacts in the PC Engine are still dirty. SF2 uses mode address lines (pins) that almost all other games don't (the same amount of pins for 8meg hucards).
You can try the hot breath trick on the hucard pins. You basically breathe out *really* slowly with your mouth wide open. This will create hot breath (put your hand infront of your mouth to understand what I'm talking about). Believe it or not, this creates moisture on the pins and allows the pins to make better contact. Remember blowing into the NES cartridges? It's the same effect. After doing this to the hucard, rapidly insert and pull out the hucard a few times, with finally leaving the hucard inserted. Power on and see if it works. You might have to do this a few times.
Another method is to put rubbing alcohol on the pins with a heavily doused q-tip and run it across the pins of the hucard, then quickly insert it and turn the system on before the alcohol evaporates.

Curious, does SF2 not work on some converters?
-
After the tape method failed i tried the cardboard one with my gameststation discount card ( i used the word card sparingly here its no more than a piece of credit card shaped card) and it also failed
I'll have to try the breath method, and the Q-tip one, on quick Q with the Q-tip method does that also clean the contacts inside the pcengine itself?
oh yeah my pc engine is a core grafx
-
Haha, the hot breath method! I always do that for carts that don't work!
I don't think I've had any problems with my SF2 HuCard and I wasn't aware that the HuCard was a little thinner - that's neat! Usually if my HuCards don't load, I just wipe the pins and it should work fine. You might want to try carefully cleaning the contacts inside your PCE like you said.
-
Do you see any indentations on the black part of the hucard? It may be that the chips inside are shattered. That was the case with my world class baseball :(
-
The sellers offered a replacement, so off street fighter goes to japan tomorrow... and if the replacement doesnt work then i know theres something wrong.
And im still waiting for GunHed to arrive....driving me nuts

Apparently GunHed isn't into breaking the speed limit anymore.

Final Update: Game arrived today, my PC engine wasnt setup (took it round my aunts yesterday) and.... it works, i've had it playing nonstop on the title screen for like 20 minutes now, OMG  its great the gfx are awsome much more than i ever thought the pc engine could so, and all the little voice clips are there, i think im in love.
....just need a 6 button pad now
-
Good to hear!! 8)
All I need is a region mod on my Duo, a 6 button controller and the DuoTap so I can play against a friend. hehe
All that can be got for under a $100 bucks though I should think.
-
The PCE version of SFII has it's own magically little charm to it. Maybe it's the thickness of the HuCard :) .
-
Maybe it's the thickness of the HuCard
That's what she said... :P
No, but seriously, I really just want the PCE SF:CE because it is a thicker HuCard. :-"
-
Thickness rulez.

I had SFII CE for my US DUO, before I got a Duo R I used to use two different Converters that allowed for japanese games to be played on my US DUO.
I had the Kisado and a long green diving board. The Green Diving Board I got from TZD back in 1994, they said that it was mainly a test model and wouldn't last very long, well 13 years later........
Since getting the PC Engine Duo R I parted ways with the Kisado, but kept the Green Diving Board. Mainly so I can switch Game Data Between my US Duo and my Jap Duo R. I had my friends stumped on how I had saves for Order of the Griffon on my Japanese Duo R without a MOD job....LOL
Anyway, SFII never worked on my kisado adapter, but worked perfect on the Green Diving board. Strange eh?
Sorry for the converter rant........
-
Haha. No that's cool. Interesting that the "test model" worked better than the highly lauded kisado. :)
-
He's lucky; my diving board doesn't even work in my Duo. It only works in my regular tg-16 and express :(
