Further proof that NJ rules! I have a pamphlet I picked up today at a sub shop -- the prize packs include tons of little things that are fun + money. If other states have this particular lotto game, well, then this isn't as special as I thought.

haha, thats a trip :)

I'd love to win a Space Invaders arcade cabinet. :) Who cares about $30,000?
-
haha, me too. $30,000 would be nice, but a mint Space Invaders would be awesome.

Speaking of "Space Invaders", I recently acquired the Saturn import two pack with SI and Puzzle Bobble 2X. And let me tell you right now:The Saturn SI game, is the biggest "WTF??!!" game collection disc I own. It's absolutely pathetic. All it is is just 4 different versions of the original Space Invaders game. One is the original black and white version, one is the version with the 4 color bar overlay, one is the one with the moon backdrop from the arcade cabinet, and one has the sprites in color instead of black and white. There's also a VS. mode which to my knowledge I believe has all the graphics and sound re-arranged, BUT YOU CAN'T PLAY THAT MODE UNLESS YOU HAVE TWO PLAYERS! I hope this disc alone didn't cost too much back when it was released in 1996, because who would want to pay 40-50 bucks on a Saturn disc that has 4 different versions of the same exact game? Why couldn't they just include ALL the different Space Invaders games from over the years like "Return of the Invaders" or "Space Invaders '91" or "Space Invaders DX"? Instead you just get 4 variations of the original arcade game and a VS mode you can't even play without two players, and that's it. What a joke. If you really wanna play this version of the game though, don't get the disc by itself, get it in the two pack with Puzzle Bobble 2X, because it's not worth paying $20-30 for a single disc that just has 4 variations of the same game and a new mode that you can't play without two people.

That means it is basically the SNES "Space Invaders: The Original Game" on a Saturn disc.
http://www.lakupo.com/grblitz/spacein2.htm <The SNES game is the 9th game down on that page and is the first under the 1996 - 1997 header. The Saturn version is 2 games below

I think that might be the same game that's on PCE CD as well. The PCE CD I have has various original arcade versions as well as a neat two player battle mode!

Wow, SNES, PCE and Saturn all having the same port! Taito was either deviously creative (creatively devious?) or very lazy.
If you pay like $2 for it, I suppose it kicks ass though. To me, Space Invaders is just a time killer, and without being SEVERELY jazzed up with high-quality remade graphics and arranged sound, it's not worth it.

I like the version with shitty grafx the best

I got it in a big bulk of PCE games I got once, so I'm assuming I got it for cheap. It's a pretty cool CD in my opinion, but I don't play it very much. The HuCard Space Invaders remake is pretty rad!

Thanks for the links, Kitsune. I've never seen SI for the Virtual Boy before (apparently, it's insanely expensive); that brings the total of 'good' games for the V.B. up to four.

Are you including Innmouse House?
-
I've never actually seen that one. It didn't have a US release, did it?

No, but neither did Space Invaders. ;) And I messed up the games name, it's "Insmouse no Yakata".
Basically it's a VB clone of Wolfenstein 3D with a Cthulhu-esque story. :)

Scouring the internet......
That looks pretty good and apparently it's based on Lovecraft's The Shadow over Innsmouth. Let me limit my previous statement to US releases, since it looks like the Japanese kept a few gems for themselves (the bastards).
-
I'm not sure if Wolfenstein 3D would be the best way to describe it...
I seem to remember it play more like Silent Debuggers... You navigate around in that Double-Dungeons 3D cave of vision (except it's a house) and when you spot a target you aim with the reticle and shoot.
Umm... I guess I should dust off my VB and play it again. :P

You're right. I've never played that game so I just went by what DP told me. :(

Yeah, the VB rocks in Japan. Vertical Force is actually CHALLENGING there!
-
Vertical Force is rad! I've only played it at the MGC a couple of times, but it seemed pretty easy to me. I was really excited becaues it was like what Blade Eagle 3-D (http://lazerdorks.org/hardcoregaming/beagle/index.html) for SMS should have been.

Were you playing the Japanese Vertical Force? The Japanese version is harder, they dumbed it down for America. And Blade Force 3D, well, I never gave it a solid chance. I only emulated SMS on my DC, and that didn't have a 3D glasses emulation, so it was unplayable.
Sega Master System ruled.
-
Yeah it was the Japanese version of Vertical Force. I wasn't aware there was an American version.
-
3-D on sega master system is amazing 8) Just don't let some jerk break your glasses when they put them on their head :x
-
Yeah one of the arms on mine broke off (I think someone stepped on it). I love the SMS 3-D glasses but there are two things that I think should've been improved:
1. ) Widen the size or loosen the arms of the glasses or something so it's not so tight and fragile.
2. ) Increase the size of the shutter boxes, though this isn't as big of a deal as number 1.

I forgot the most HANDY version of Space Invaders!
http://www.itmorr.com/dcl1.6/downloads/TinyInvaders.exe <virus scanned with latest AVG, it's clean.
Left and right move your ship, down fires the cannon, the screen is next to your clock. ^_^
