Just like it says. Top 5 fave musicians. Each entry can be a entire band/group or a single person. Any genre, even video game music.
It doesn't have to be ranked either. Just your top 5.
But these are the rules, and you shall not break them:
1. ONLY 5 (FIVE). There is always some dumbass who breaks this rule. READ. ONLY 5 ENTRIES. THE END. One post per person, also.
2. No ties, no exceptions. Flip a coin if you have to. There is ONE group/artist per entry. Don't like it? Don't post.
Sorry to be so blunt and mean, but the last forum RUINED this thead. You guys are smart. Don't ruin the thread please.
My faves:
1. The Chemical Brothers
2. Pendulum
3. The Crystal Method
4. Propellerheads
5. The Prodigy
So yeah, I guess I like Big Beat. ^___^
-
Aceyalone
Jurassic 5
J-Live
Blackalicious
Ugly Duckling
There's more(including different types of music including game ost's/composers), but, only 5 allowed, so, yeah.
-
1. Nirvana
2. Ozzy
3. Phil Collins
-
Helmet
Tool
Failure
Alice in Chains
Nirvana
-
So is it three, or five?
This is nearly impossible:
New Order
Blackalicious
Saul Williams
The Smiths
They Might Be Giants
-
So is it three, or five?
Yeah.. that confused the hell out of me. I tried to keep it down to
three entries and five members. Maybe it's a trick question.

It's five since Kitsunexus listed 5 of his own. Damn, I really don't know which 5 to choose. I gonna need more time to narrow this down. :-k

New Order
Blackalicious
Saul Williams
The Smiths
They Might Be Giants
Nice picks SignOfZeta. :) New Order/Joy Division are my favourites. Have you seen "Control" yet? And my brother told me there's a new Joy Division documentary out now on DVD. MUST SEE!!
They Might Be Giants is also a great band. Flood was their best IMHO, though I haven't heard much from them aside from their Malcolm In the Middle and Homestar Runner themes. The Smiths are also amazing.
So my top five:
New Order/Joy Division (two different bands, yet deserve to be together. OK I'm cheating.)
Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers
Air
Belle and Sebastian
Magnetic Fields
Very hard to narrow down to the top five. I know I'm forgetting or leaving out favourites, but it gives an idea. :)

1 Led Zeppelin
2 Dropkick Murphys
3 Pink Floyd
4 Jane's Addiction
5 AC/DC

I made this at 4:00 in the morning. Sorry. >_<

I don't know. I'm kind of burned out on 25 years if analyzing a band that was only together for two or three. Also, I think 24 Hour Party People is about the best JD/NO/Factory thing possible. I'm waiting for a Region 1 reprint or HD release before I buy it though because I won't have that horrible cover in my collection.

Helmet
Tool
Failure
Alice in Chains
Nirvana
Great picks... Almost every one of those bands has been in my "top 5" at one point or another. And still, they are all pretty high up there. Except Failure. Never heard of them before.
I saw Tool live back in 2000 (or was it 01?). Good show, but they didn't play a single song from Undertow, which remains my favorite Tool album. Opiate is good too, and they even played a song or two from that. Some of the imagery that accompanied the concert itself was just killer. The had people dangling from the f*cking ceiling!
In 2001 (or was it 02?) I saw the surviving members of Alice in Chains play a show here in Seattle shortly after Layne Stayley died. It was a touching concert, they played some of the classics, and a few of Jerry Cantrell's "solo" stuff.
As for my list.... At this particular moment, would probably have to go something like this, in no particular order:
Stone Temple Pilots
Blue Oyster Cult
Pink Floyd
Queensryche
Faith No More
-
Smashing Pumpkins
Screaming Trees
Rise Against
Johnny Cash
The Cure
-
In NO order of course-
MegaDeth
Manowar
Iron Savior
KMFDM
Days of the New (Don't ask I just dig it)
-
Depeche Mode
Pink Floyd
Tool
The Art of Noise
New Order (To bad they broke up but they had a good run)
Still my taste range from good old rock to electronic.

New Order
Blackalicious

They Might Be Giants
Ooooh, Blackalicious & Saul Williams, nice! Didn't figure there would be anybody else here into underground hip hop....well, I'm not sure that Saul is categorized as such, but, you know what I mean.
-
KMFDM
Werd. KMFDM/MDFMK rock. I saw them live here twice in Halifax. I used to be hardcore into the industrial scene. Pigface, Ministry, Revolting Cocks, Front 242, Frontline Assembly, Skinny Puppy, Nine Inch Nails, etc...
-
Front 242!
-
It's hard to whittle it down to just five bands, but here they are and in no particular order:
ZZ Top - I saw the famous beards live a few weeks back.
Megadeth
Marilyn Manson
Soundgarden / Audioslave - I'm cheating, so sue me.
Danzig
-
New Order (To bad they broke up but they had a good run)
Yeah they had a choice of sticking together and purchasing a Fairlight for themselves or breaking up and buying the Hacienda.
Guess what they chose. :(
-
New Order (To bad they broke up but they had a good run)
They broke up in the early 90s, but they got back together (minus Gillian :() and released an album in 2001 "Get Ready" and "Waiting for the Sirens' Call" 2005. They also did some soundtrack music for "Control".
But yeah, the Hacienda/Factory thing really f*cked them, but at the same time allowed them to be who they were. By the time they signed on to London Records they had credibility and were still allowed to do what they pleased.
I figure New Order still has a 2 or 3 albums left in them, but if they decide to not release any more I'll be satisfied. They have a huge collection of stuff.
-

And "Blade". :P
-
And "Blade". Razz
Haha. :P Yeah. It was that crazy trance/dance remix of "Confusion" from the "Rest of New Order" album from 93 or 94. It was a sister compilation that accompanied "The Best of New Order". There was some good stuff on "The Rest of...", but that Confusion remix really wasn't one of them. hehe

I'm pretty sure Gillian was in on Get Ready, at least partially.

That depends on who you talk to. Moving to London meant 12 shitty remixes on every single. It also spawned the "live" Baywatch-themed TV appearance with The Hoff on American TV. That shit was just humiliating. It makes the Sunkist commercial look extremely authentic by comparison.
Personally I think Technique was the high point, and while I still like the new stuff, its just not the same. That's OK though. Things change.
I'd like to see a new Electronic album.
As far as this topic goes, it seems to be mostly involving three genres; New Wave/Post Punk, hip-hop, and whatever tired-ass-shit they play on the Nu Rock stations.
I'd just like to say that I will never forgive Seattle. Ever. And if Kurt knew people were listening to the same five singles over and over and over again for the past 15 years so that the radio stations can collect money from adverts run by used car credit agencies, and mobile phone shacks he'd blow his brains out all over again.

Where the hell did that thing even come from? I mean, originally. The only 12"s I remember seeing it on came out years later. Personally, I was always mystified by its existence. Maybe it was one of those bootleg white labels that become legitimate post-facto?
-Edit-
Never mind, I just answered my own question:
From the Wiki:
CD: FCD260 [ffrr 1995 release]
"Confusion [Pump Panel Reconstruction Mix]" (10:11)
"Confusion [Pump Panel Flotation Mix]" (9:15)

Yeah, I'm very anxious for anything new from Saul, especially a tour. I saw him here in Ann Arbor a couple of years ago and it was positively surreal. That guy has atmosphere big-time.
-EDIT Mk II-
From the Wiki:
"According to a recent post on nin.com, Saul's new album is finished and is being mixed by Trent Reznor and Alan Moulder."
Holy shit!

I ment there recent break-up i herd it on a uk podcast.
http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167506
Btw the link to it is in there.
Still i herd there last album wasn't that great so like it matters i guess.
Like any band though never expect them to stick together forever.
Beside...in the end they get sick of each other and they feel it's time to move on.

But Hammer doesn't write his own lyrics! I guess it doesn't matter, there's a rumor that Will Smith didn't write any of his lyrics for his Fresh Prince albums, which I love.

Most artists don't write their own lyrics :P . Hammer still rules though!

I think you mean people who refer to themselves as "musical artists". Which I've found usually means singers who don't write music.
-
Cradle Of Filth
Dissection
Emperor
Black Mages
Magia Pagana
...and a bunch of other stuff that most of you have never heard of.

Exactly!
