Just saw the Sharp X1 Twin PC Engine for auction on eBay.

Just wondering if anyone here owns this computer/console. It looks pretty neat, but I doubt if it's much of a computer. hehe. Anyway, I don't know if that's a good starting price, but it certainly is a novelty item.
Would be interested in hearing some stories about this item.

Can you believe that the little PCE PCB inside of the X1 holds an entire PCE (well the guts anyway)..Hardly larger than a HuCard itself!

That thing is tiny! I bet that this compact board really helped when GT development started up.

Crazy small! Thanks for the pics fx! :)
How did this "computer" stand up to it contemporaries of the time?

wow, that thing is small, haha. Small and powerful 8)

It crushed the competition, seeing as how it had a "PC-Engine-Inside".

I wonder if Sharp feels they got their logo on that PCB enough times.

I doubt it. I only count nine on 'er.

So does that little thing just output RGB to the computer's MB to send out? And RGB harness might be pretty easy to built for that. All it needs is a controller input and some sort of power supply/switch and you'd have the ultimate PC Engine... except that by the time you're done it's bigger than a regular PC Engine.

Jeez, do we have to do all the reading for you? Following the link reveals:
The Sharp X-1 Twin was a weird combination unit, featuring the X-1 computer (a Z80-based precursor to the X68000) and an integrated PC Engine. I use the term integrated loosely, the two systems shared the same shell, but little else...
This is the PCE riser/interface PCB. It's brown, and does little more than connect the X1 PCB to the PCE PCB. Neither system is in any way aware of the other...
The PCE does not output RGB through the X1's monitor port, it only outputs composite video and stereo audio, via the AV connectors.
No RGB through the monitor, and the X1 was a crusty old thing: Z80 CPU, low-colour non-scrolling graphics. No sprites IIRC. The PCE inside the same box outclassed it in almost every way, except that it had no computer peripherals.

So a ZX Spectrum mixed with a PC Engine? Nice.

The link said "more images" not "more info", so that is why my post was made before following the link.

Boy, you're a snarky one aren't you... :P Of course I've done my own reading on it, but it's always nice to hear from people who actually own the machine first hand. Isn't that the point of forums like these?
Jeez..

Funny.... and here I thought that the whole point of forums like this is to have a place to make surly comments while occasionally looking at partial nudity. :-k

I thought forums were a place to store all the image macros I want to use later.

Well, I didn't mean to be hasty. I can multi-task with the best of them. 8)
