EDIT: Oh yeah, and since some of you may not know WTF a GP2X is, it's a handheld Linux gaming device that runs emulators. (http://www.gp2x.com/) Also, I want the original GP2X more than the touchscreen one. Kinda...because the new one isn't black.
OK, so I've been thinking, and I haven't really been liking my PSP as much as I thought I would. Right now all it is is a backup MP3 player, I haven't been playing many games on it.
I'm really leaning towards the GP2X, because it's cool and it has near-flawless emulators without needing to downgrade the system.
Here's the games I have for my PSP right now:
Gradius Collection (the crown jewel of my collection, and the only PSP game I'd really miss, I might not even sell this one even if I sell the PSP)
Sega Genesis Collection (I like a lot of the games, but I could do without some)
Capcom Puzzle World (Super Puzzle Fighter 2 is the only reason I bought this, that game is emulated
fine on GP2X so this can be easily replaced)
Tekken: Dark Ressurection (GETS. OLD. FAST.)
Capcom Classics Collection (I only got this for Quiz And Dragons and Strider, and because of the game I discovered Three Wonders and Varth, but all these are perfectly emulated on GP2X).
Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX (I love this game, but it's emulated perfectly on GP2X and the exclusive edit mode is DAMN NEAR WORTHLESS.)
Loco Roco (Wow, I will NEVER buy a game based on a demo again, no matter how awesome and cool the demo is.)
Bust-A-Move DX (ACK. ACK ACK ACK. GP2X has Bust-A-Move 2 Neo·Geo version, so f*ck this pile of shit.)
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (Overrated, gets old fast).
Ultimate Ghosts And Goblins (Ha. Haha. Hahaha! HAHAHAHA! BWAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHA! You gotta be f*ckING KIDDING ME! This game was GIVEN AWAY five minutes after the intro screen. Worst purchasing mistake EVER.)
Not to mention the fact that GP2X will let me get access to SNES games (which I love so much), Genesis, TG-16 and MAME.
What do you think I should do?
-
I'd say keep the psp for the good games( like dracula x thats soon to be released) But if you're looking for a portable emulation machine, you might want to try the gp2x. I'm not sure how great the gp2x handles emulation, but it must be good if they are selling good, haha. If you need to sell the psp to fund the gp2x and can live without those psp games, I say go for it.
-
From the sound of your view on PSP, I'd say get a GP2X.
-
What do you think I should do?
Buy a SNES, snerd :-&
-
Eh, have you tried Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles(as mentioned above), Daxter, Gurumin(from the makers of Ys), Ys Ark of Napishtim(though, the PS2 & PC versions are better), the 3 Legend of Heroes games(despite the crappy translation, they're still great), Mega Man Powered Up, Mega Man Maverik Hunter X, Mercury, Salamander Collection, Twin Bee Collection, Parodius Collection, or Suikoden 1 & 2(that is, if you don't mind playing thru these gems in Japanese, otherwise, grab the PS1 versions). Those are my recomendations. There are more, but, those are the ones I hold up higher. Also, hopefully someone will bring over the latest Legend of Heroes(hopefully that someon, is NOT Bandai/Namco!).

Missing poll option "You shouldn't have bought a PSP in the first place, ahô!" is desperately needed! (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v201/elnino19/diversa/woohoo.gif)

Since it sounds like you're not to happy with your PSP, I vote that you dump it for a GP2X or better yet - a TurboExpress.
-
The PSP is one of my most loved handhelds. Ever since games started using 3D polygons I've waited for the day that I could have decent 3D gaming on the go, and the PSP is that answer (it is pretty much a PS2 in your hands). The unit wasn't "made" (aka officially support) emulators so if you don't dig those pretty 3D polys, then I'd say sell the system. The GP2X line is way more friendlier to hacks/emus so if that is what you are into then don't bother with the PSP.
If you do decide to keep your psp, here are some of the more anticipated titles coming up (and they are all in-game shots)
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII
(http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2007/131/925138_20070512_screen002.jpg)
God of War (Yah I know you don't like, but it will be the most advanced 3D game to date)
Wipeout Pulse (YAH BABY!)
Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles (YAHHH BABY!!)

@Derek: I still have a VERY yellowed old SNES, it's stood the test of time, I don't need another.
@elmino: Ouch. It stings when someone else is right for a change.
@Necromancer: My PSP and entire game library wouldn't be enough to get one of the HuCards I want, let alone a Turboexpress.
@Pcenginefx: The Dracula X 3D games don't interest me, all of the 2D games are already emulated on GP2X, Wipeout Pulse is alright, but I'm sure I'll get bored of it, and I don't really want any Final Fantasy except for the old ones.
I think I'm going to sell my PSP. Thanks for the advice, guys!

You should make a thread reviewing the gp2x when you get it. I too have been thinking of grabbing one :)
-
There was a few games released for it too. I played it at the MGC in 2003. Very impressive system. And with all the emulation possibilities you definately should ditch the Sony and pick up the GamePark!!

Actually, Rondo of Blood, is 2.5D. It's not 3D like Lament of Innocence, which has a 3rd person view. Rondo is side scrolling. And Symphony of the Night is purely 2D, aside from a few polygons for a few effetcs.

I didn't say it right the first time, lemme rephrase that: I don't give a shit about the Rondo of Blood remake. The original games are emulated on GP2X (or so I believe),

Play-Asia is now shipping the newest GP2X model.
I have the MK2 version and I love it.
-
I'd say my gp2x is worth it solely for the flawless NeoGeo, CPS2 emulation and Genesis/SegaCD emulation. All full speed, f*ckign fantastic!
Most people are dissapointed if they get a gp2x expecting it to be another PSP, but if you know what your getting into its a really awesome machine. Ive played mine for countless hours. I'll most likely be picking up the new f200 model in the near future.

I love my GP2X. I own a MK1 edition and can overclock mine to 290 stable. Notaz did an amazing job with Picodrive, and squidgesnes and PocketSNES are great emulators as well. Sadly the psp is better for PC-Engine emulation and can even emulate the SGX games. MAME is amazing and yesterday Franxis just released GP2XMAME 4.9 and is a very nice improvement. Also GNGEO2X is a blast and can run most games 60fps @ 200mhz. Just remember to do the gfx dumps of larger neo-geo games on your pc before playing them. It just takes way to long doing it in the emulator its self. For CPS2 emulation, I like it better on the psp since you have a bigger screen resolution that fits cps2 emulation better. Also there is no cps1 emulator except MAME2X. You'll need to run those in FastMame if you want next to no frame skipping. The psp does better CPS1 emulation. I have both a psp and gp2x and I love my gp2x better. The screen doesn't ghost bad like the psp and it's resolution is way better for emulation - cps1 and 2 stuff. Just get an F200 and have fun :D

What do you mean UGnG was given away 5 minutes in? I haven't played it but everything I've heard about it has been very positive.

Well you shouldn't play it. It SUCKS. The difficulty level is ramped up beyond mortal ability, the graphics are ncie but the sound is just meh.
I dunno you may like it, but I absolutely hated it.
-
This GP2x sounds pretty cool. If you can emulate all the old school systems and have them available to play in a portable, where's the drawback in that?
Some of you on this thread mentioned PC Engine/TG-16 emulation on the PSP. Do you have to do a special mod to the PSP to do that? Can't the GP2x run magic engine just as easily as a Personal Computer? I'm not much of a techie, so please pardon my lack of knowledge.

You have to do a lot of complicated and dangerous (you can "brick" or ruin your PSP) stuff to the PSP software to get your PSP to run homebrew and emulators. Also the emualtors for PSP are not the same level or accuracy as they are on GP2X.
-
psp can be easily unbricked these days though. I do agree that the gp2x will probably play the emulators better that the psp because it was designed for it.
-
psp can be easily unbricked these days though.
But you have to buy another battery and waste like 2 hours of your time.
Simply, you don't want your PSP to get bricked, so it's best not to mess with it.

Hmmm. The Maikamura games were always insane for difficulty, so that's no surprise. I think I'll still pick it up eventually.
For me, a PSP is worth it for the Gradius/Salamander games, Capcom collections, etc. Lots of classic gaming available and you don't have to screw around with your firmware. Not to mention Drac X just came out...

Exactly Gradius collection RULES! also get the Sega Genesis collection!
-
for me its worth it for initial D 8) I actually don't own the psp though; its my brothers, haha.
-
I'm actually not going to sell my PSP.
-
Parodius collection  And, I'd say the same for Suikoden 1 & 2, but, they're in japanese, so, I prefer to play the PS1 versions.

If the GP2x can run emulation without having to do any dangerous mods to the system, then it sounds like a no-brainer. I have a TG Express that I love, but the screen is always too small. If I could get a GP2x and install emulation software for various old-school systems, then it sounds like the portable to have. Are there any drawbacks to the GP2x that you could enlighten me on?

There are official games released just for it, but they are few and they suck. Don't expect any of your friends to have one handy for multiplayer battles. The systemes SD cards as it's way of storage, so hope you have a couple of those laying around.
Other than that, no.

boo. :P
