What is up with that three games on one disc Bonks/Bonks II/Gate of Thunder CD that is floating around out there? Is it a bootleg or something? Is it worth it to get the games all seperately or what?
-
OK so it was a pack in game included in the system. What about Ys Book I & II is the pack in version the same as the kind you could buy in a shop? I am guessing these pack-in games don't have the artwork or cases or anything ..

The Gate of Thunder pack in is actually a 4-in-1 disc. Bomberman is also included.
And yeah, the packaging was kind of lame. The disc came in a generic $0.25 jewel case. Manuals for all the games were included in the big box the Duo came in, though.
I don't know much about the Ys I & II pack-in, but would imagine it was a similar deal to the GoT disc.

thanks for letting me know. Just bought a Duo for $160 that is revamped & comes with Cosmic Fantasy. I gotta get me hands on some more games though ...

You are correct, sir. The Ys pack-in came in a generic case with the manual but without the map. The disc label was different and I think that the manual cover may have been a little different too.

I've got both of these pack-in versions... one interesting thing is that they come in white PC-Engine Cd-trays instead of the black ones that other USA games came in.
Also, there is no back insert for the pack in versions.

Is it hard to get into Ys without the book? I haven't played it yet..

No. I don't have a book/manual for Ys I and II. And I don't have any maps, either.

The word on the street is that Final Zone II and Valis II were also released with white trays instead of the normal black trays.

Not at all. As a matter of fact, my manual hasn't been subjected to more than a quick scan for errant porn. Instructions are for pussies anyway.

I have a question about my copy of Ys. It has the standard Turbografx CD packaging, but on the disc itself it has the Turbo Duo logo. Is this how they were all packaged? I thought this was a little weird. Just started Book II btw. Great game.

Nope, that's not normal. Your Duo pack-in was repackaged in an TG-CD case.

Both versions are f'n awesome.

The Duo pack in should have a white CD tray and the Turbo CD version should have a black CD tray right?

That's the way they originally came, yes.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I've wondered about that for awhile now. I wonder how the pack-in got in a regular case? Considering my copy came from Goodwill I may never know. :)
