I'm excited, even if the remake stinks, I'm looking forward to the possibility of the original being completely in english, not to mention a slightly updated Symphony of the Night. Though, I really do wish they would've added in the Saturn levels, I wanna play them in all their gloriful goofiness!
-
Yeah, a friend of mine bought a PSP just for this game. He thinks it will be TEH R00L
-
got it reserved at gamestop.
-
Yeah, I have mine preordered at Game Stop as well, kinda wish the 8-bit Simon, was the CV1 version, but, oh well.
-
haha, I'm just glad we're getting those cool 8-bit simons 8)
-
Huh?
-
Huh?
If you buy the game from the right store you get a chunk of plastic resemblimg the NES Simon.
-
If I had a PSP, I would definitely buy it. But I don't, so I'll just cry in my Wheaties instead.
Huh?

Well, sounds like some stores are getting Simon in late. While others are getting them in early. My store, was supposed to have them in already, but, no such luck. Hopefully they'll be in tommorrow when I get the game. Though, Mega Man ZX Advent also comes out this week(maybe the same day, atleast, the date is the same, but some sites have said November) so I might have to go in later in the week, or maybe even wait until all my stuff is there, so I don't have to make multiple trips. It wouldn't be such a big deal, if the EB I go to, wasn't kind of far away, but, it's the only one I like, as all the others in the area are runs by a bunch of jerks. Apparently, the people I like at this EB, may be jumping ship as well, so, I guess I'll then start resorting to the closest EB, & just dealing with it.
-
I think "resembling" might be too string a word there. Perhaps a word with a bit more vagueness would be more appropriate.
-
The 8-bit simon in the flyer I got at my local gamestop advertises him as the cv1 version. I hope that is the one that we get

Bah what a lame freeibe if should have been this simon figure

Still you can get it here.

That one is definitely cooler :) Looks like that site you linked used to sell, but is sold out, of that one that gamestop is giving away . I wonder if gamestop bought them out, haha

So that's what TRON's avatar is! I kept thinking it was some kind of plastic model of Conan the Barbarian!
-
So that's what TRON's avatar is! I kept thinking it was some kind of plastic model of Conan the Barbarian!
Most think that and the figure does look like conan.
I even drop a hint under my av and i guess nobody got the hint.
I'm thinking of getting the cv figures that neca made it's,the frist time i've seen figures for castlevania.
-
Maybe I will.
-
I orderd Simon & Alucard a month or 2 ago. Not sure exactly when they ship though, the month of October is almost over. The others I'm hoping they'll make, are Richter Belmont, Julius Belmont, Soma Cruz, & maybe Trevor Belmont. Oh yeah, & deffinitly Leon Belmont! I'm pretty much sticking to the heroes of the games obviously. Can't think of anyone else I want.
-
As I've voiced in other threads, I'm all over this. This week alone I'm getting DracX, Eye of Judgement and Ace Combat 6....busy busy busy.
-
Ace Combat 6 is out this week?
-
I picked up Dracula X at gamestop today. They didn't have the 8-bit simon though, those bastards :x

LOL I can guess you can say WHAT A HORRIBLE NIGHT TO HAVE A CURSE!
-
ROFLMAO, what a horrible night to have a curse  Well, It looks like I'll be ordering that Simon the Barbarian action figure :)
-
Having a horrible night with that curse?
-
LMaO, I'm not having that bad of a night
-
Yeah, no Simon for me either. I'm hoping maybe by this weekend they'll have them in, gotta bring in my recent, incase someone is there, that doesn't know me.
BTW, the game is really well done, but, I'm sure some will hate it. I opened up both the original RoB, & SotN. I will let ya'll know, that the OG RoB is totally in english, they redubbed it with the new actors, I've watched about 3 cinemas so far, redubbed. Also, the grunts & groans of Richter & Maria are redubbed as well, to corespond with the new actors. And I'd say, it's emulated about 99.9% perfect. There's some little things, with the music when you load into a cinema, but, overall, very well done.
SotN however, while the voice acting is much better, then the original(since they redubbed this game as well, because of the original version having abysmal voice acting), the sound effects, like thunder, are wierd sounding, like, they lowered the quality. And, the voice acting has been rewriten as well, so, no more "What is a man?" with Drac sounding like Bob Goldthwait! Oh well. It sounds like Phil LaMarr(Green Lanter in Justice League) does the voice for Death in all the games. And I think the guy who does Kakashi Sensei on Naruto(among other cartoons), voices Alucard. I dig it.
-
I don't think I could buy it without the 8-bit plastic Simon thingy. I mean good god, have you seen it? It is sooooooooo authentic looking! It doesn't look like a piece of melted plastic painted in China AT ALL!!!! OMG it is sooooo awesome. I will kill myself and a hundred others if I am not somehow able to obtain this awesome token of awesomeness.
-
Screw the Simon figure. (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-49-en-70-21o8.html)

Same figures that http://www.cornerstorecomics.com (http://www.cornerstorecomics.com/) sell.
You can even buy all the figures as a set too.
Simon,Dracula,Succubus and Alucard as well.
-
I'm sure some will hate it.
Some=me.
I stole it yesterday (through electronic means). Really crappy game. Just like the original (yeaah, I went there!). I only got it for SOTN because I wanted to play it in widescreen.
Guess what.
No widescreen available! You get a small box in the middle of the screen. It's just the PS1 SOTN played through the PSP's PS1 emulator. Really poor. I already played SOTN on my PSP through that emulator. Man am I disappointed.
Also: that awesome token of awesomeness, why do people care about it? It's not awesome.
-
How have we made it this far along without you?
It sounds to me like it would be worth picking up as a novelty just to hear Rondo of Blood in English. But that's about it.
Definitely not worth buying a PSP for.
-
Those new slim PSPs are the shit though, I've barely held off buying one like 5 times already. A friend has one and they are so cool, if sony had released them in the first place they might not be getting slaughtered by the DS so badly.
-

It's practically pixel perfect!
-
One bummer, atleast for me, is the intro to OG RoB is totally re-recorded, in German ofcoarse, but, still, for some reason I want to hear the old intro.
-
It's practically pixel perfect!
Sure, in a grossly melted plastic sort of way.
-
Grossly Melted Plastic
AWESOME. BAND. NAME.

I like how the screenshot on the back of the box shows a crucified jesus :o. Finally a game without censorship 8) We'd never see anything like that on Nintendo :x

On the other hand, its probably the only reason some people will buy A psp.And I see fm-77 made his way back to the forum again.Yay.

I played this game on my friend's PSP last night. It's pretty good, though it's sometimes hard to tell where the edges of things are due to the pseudo-3D. Some of the graphics are pretty bad, like that bull torso that chases you in stage 2. Low resolution textures for sure. But then again the PSP has never impressed anyone graphically. I called everyone tonight and nobody said that PSP graphics were great. Yes, everyone in the world. The sound effect the mudmen make when they die were stolen from Astal on the Saturn. Anyway on the PC Engine version that's on there, if the language is set to English, the sound is changed in that game as well. Even Richter's grunts are now in English. You couldn't understand his "Unngggh!" when he got hit before, so they had to redub it so that he now says "Unngggh!" in English. Even the skeleton groans were redubbed. Some of the other sound effects were also changed. Set it to Japanese and the original sound effects return. Also when the werewolf dies, he now has blue underwear on. This was done to protect the children. Think of the children, as they are our future. Thank black jesus the blue underwear is here to protect them.
-
I didn't get your phone call. I guess I'll have to thank black Jevus for that

Joe > AVGN. The end.

That's funny and and a bit stupid that they change the grunt sounds in English!
-
I didn't get your phone call.
That's OK, your mom answered for you.
-

Well, the new voice actors do sound different then the Japanese voice actors, so, I guess they felt it would sound better if the grunts matched the rest of what they said.
-
Even the skeleton grunts?
-
I wish they would port the X68000 Castlevania to the PSP, I really like that one (it was on the Castlevania Chronicles PS1 disc).
-
I know what you are talking about kitsune. My bro and I are always talking about how we wish that they would port it to something :)
-
Can't you just run the Playstation version on the PSP? I thought the PSP playstation emulator was 100% perfect, or so I've heard, I've never used it.

I don't have Devhook, so I couldn't tell you about homebrew emulators. As for Konami's PS1 emulator (used in Gradius Collection), it's nigh-on perfect.
But in order to use Sony's official PS1 emu, you have to go find this obscure client they released in Japan that lets you connect to the Japanese PSN on PC and download PS1 games without a PS3. We won't be getting it for free, apparently it will come as part of the Sony Media Manager Pro package, which REALLY PISSES ME OFF because I spent $30 on the normal Media Manager.
I wonder if I should have gotten a DS.
-
DS is pretty fun. I've spent a lot of time on games like NewSuperMarioBros, TetrisDS, Game&WatchCollection and more. I can't say its any better than the psp or not though :-k

Devhook? You have a time machine? Cool. I would like to go back to 2004, can I come with you?
Ever heard of custom firmware? With it, you can play downloaded games as well as any PS1 game. No money needed. Because honestly, pay money for games? That's soo 90's behaviour. But again, I guess you used your time machine and came to 2007 not knowing anything about how gaming works now.
http://www.psp-hacks.com/ Research the field, take action, and turn your PSP from utter shit to just plain shitty.
-
I was told I need Devhook to boot into custom firmware, or failing that, use a Pandora battery. I have no intention to do either as I am selling the PSP.
-
Someone told you wrong. But go ahead and sell your PSP. Otherwise you might get tempted to try this shitty game. :o

LOL I'm selling my PSP for the GP2X, the new one, which is FAR SUPERIOR to PSP when emulation's concerned.
I was actually tempted to buy this at one point in time, but after I found out that you had to beat Dracula X to get SOTN, I said f*ck it.
-
If you get custom firmware all you have to do is put the psx iso of SOTN on the memory card and you can play it like any other game 8)

I know, but it's not just SOTN, it's the other emulators that don't run tight on PSP.

Says who? Most PSP emulators are excellent. The only slow ones are the N64 and SNES emulators (although SNES emulation is mostly fine).
-
I just picked up Dracula X Chronicles and I'm lovin' it. That's cool that they added the unlockable music tracks and that you can change the BGM music of each individual stage to one of the unlockable music tracks.

You don't have to beat Drac X to play SotN. You pick up the game in level 3' the Cemetary. There's a SotN icon that you find. Here's how:
In Stage 3', where the path branches, take the upper route. Make sure you obtain the "axe" subweapon sometime during the stage or use Maria. Eventually, you will meet a skeletal snake that is attached to a wall. Nearby is a vine-like cage; use the axe to cut it or Maria to double jump & hit it with peaceful dovelike action. It now serves as a platform for Richter or Maria to jump to the upper ledges. Continue along the upper ledges until you see a breakable tombstone. Inside is the item that unlocks Symphony of the Night. Return to the main menu to play it.

I can imagine. You should post a picture.

I finally got the Drac X Chronicles last night and beat the real final boss by rescuing all the ladies first. Does anyone know how to unlock the original Rondo of Blood?
-
It's in Stage 4, you go the way, where you make the bomb explode, um, I'll just quote gamefaqs
"On your way through twards the end of the stage you will find 6 of those skulls that spit fire stacked on top of each other. Just past them is a platform that moves like an inverted pengelium going left and right. Just opposite of it is a spiked ball. Get on the platform and jump over the spiked ball landing on the ground against the wall. Break the lower part of the wall to find a bomb. Hit the bomb to ingite it and the wall will come falling down.
Walk forward a bit and you will find 2 spiked platforms that try to crush you. Get on the right platform and as it's going up jump off of it and land on the upper level. Stay on top avoiding the axes and the yellow eye. At the very end of that platform is a candle hit it and inside will be some classic gaming goodness."
Ofcoarse, Maria makes that part easier with her double jump.
Also, you can unlock the small goofy Dracula X warning screen, some say it's from beating Boss Rush mode once, others say it's from beating it 3 times.

Inbetween my last post and now reading yours, I played through normal Boss Rush three times after finding a youtube video that made it sound like that unlocked the PCE game. All I got was the Stage X mini game. Then I went back to earn some extra % and found the PCE game on my own. :P
Man I hate the messed up gameplay of the remake. :x
-
Messed up gameplay?? It generally feels the same to me, other then now the backflip seems easier to do.
-

I'm talking about the 3D version. Its messed up as bad as Drac XX SNES, only it branches off in unique paths of bullcrap.
It's one thing for many enemies to fly into you like never before, but now they rack up multiple hits in split seconds and can kill you even if you were at full health before the initial collision. The extra tall characters can't even jump to hit medium height candles if there's a floor above now, because they'll get hit by every enemy up there.
The enemy behaviors now work against the level design plus so many pits have bg parts that look like platforms but aren't and the actual edges of collision on everything aren't the edges of the 3D graphics... so I took many hits from enemies that never visually touched me but fall into pits after failing to treat a few extra invisible pixels as part of a ledge.
-
Well I compared the Dracula X Rondo of Blood in this release to my original Duo version and the emulation is a bit off. It actually plays faster than on my Duo. You can really notice it in the first level. Also some of the sound emulation, especially when you use the special attack with the Axes is way off. It hurts my ears when I hear it. I also don't care for the new music in the "redone" version, and the textures are bland and colorless. The voice over in the into was taken out as well and replaced with the one in the remake. Why did they do that? On my psp Dracula-X looks like poo since I have a Japanese v1.0 psp. My lcd screen is a ghosting blurry mess. Well all I can say is that I don't really see this effecting ebay prices of the Duo version. I'll stick with playing this on my old ass TV and my Duo.
-
Hmm, I guess I haven't had that problem. The remake seems just fine to me, but, that's just my own opinion. It's probably been awhile since I've played entirely thru the original, so, maybe that's why I'm not noticing. Plus, you've probably played thru the original alot more then me, so you have a better memory of how things were.
As for the emulation, I didn't do a side by side comparison, but it still seems really good. Didn't notice anything wrong with any of the sounds. I agree that I didn't like that they used the new intro voice. I liked the old one for the original game. Some have said the cinemas in the original, the voice & music is a bit off. Not sure if that's an emulation problem or not. Maybe we'll see when it gets ported to the VC how that is emulated.
I like the music in the remake, but, not as much as the original. And I don't like that Den isn't used for Stage 7. So, I changed it so it would play the PCE's Den during 7, which is a nice feature. I still haven't gone in to beat Shaft, & Dracula's 3rd form. My personal opinion is that the graphics looks great, though, I would've prefered 2D, with some poly's added in for depth. That would've looked alot better IMHO.
-
I have found a "cheat/fix" that makes the game a lot easier. Normally I wouldn't call this a cheat, but with Dracula X, it literally takes the difficulty down a notch in nearly all of the difficult places of the game. It will only work on a custom firmware though. If you are sick and tired of the jumping physics changing depending on how many enemies or explosions are present on the screen clock the cpu to 333 and not only will the jumping physics stay constant, but you get 0 lag when you blow up several exploding enemies at once. I am guessing the programmers expected to get the game published at 333, but the game came out just before Sony gave the OK to do that. Most games are not nearly as affected by running at 333 as this one is. In some levels, like with many spike traps or pits into water, this clock change grants a night and day difference in performance. It's criminal that this game was released running at 222.
Oh yeah, and after playing so much Chip Chan Kick lately, playing Maria on DX really reminds me now of CCK. I pretend I am throwing tribbles instead of birds and for some reason it adds a whole new element of fun to the game.
-
This game kicks MAJOR ass. I shouldn't have doubted Konami, they usually do a great job.
-
Can't you just run the Playstation version on the PSP? I thought the PSP playstation emulator was 100% perfect, or so I've heard, I've never used it.
Yes you should be able to. Only a handful of PS1 games do not run on the PSP and many of them have been intentionally programmed to crash like Bio Hazard 2 was so that they could later sell it on the Sony store right after they released a "fix" to the emulator which allowed it to play. The only games that don't work on it usually have very odd memory managment like Um Jammer Lammy or Final Fantasy 8.
You do have to convert the PS1 game to a PSP format though, the upside of this being that you can compress the game's textures to save memory stick space when you do this.
