Just thought I'd put it out there that a store close to my house has a copy of Darius Alpha in stock. It has the case and looks to be in great condition. The price is a bit steep, but if anyone can cough up $1100 (plus shipping from Japan), I'll pick it up for them. I would take a picture, but the damn store is strict about photography [-X

I would love to buy it. Do you accept COD? :P
-
Holy Jeebus! Will that shop buy me dinner and a movie before they f*ck me like that? :o
-
I need that game.
Is $1100 really what I can expect to pay for it nowadays?
I was thinking $500-$700 at the very most.
-
I'd say $800-$1000. I see stores selling it for $1000, but every now and then you see an auction for $800. I need it too, but I'm kinda in dept.
-
You guys know the software contained on the HuCard itself is almost worthless, right?
-
Its not worthless to me. The reason the price is so high is because only 800 copies of it exist.
-
Yeah, it's a novelty thing. I collect games to play them, so I would certainly play it every now and then. But half the battle is just being able to say I own it.
Judging by what I'm seeing though, I doubt I'll be owning it any time soon.

does it have the letter with it?

If only 800 copies of Strip Fighter existed, would you blow a grand on that? How about Deep Blue?
Darius Alpha is obviously much better than shit like that, but it is just Darius Plus with stuff missing. Whooptie friggn do. Maybe I have my facts wrong here (not being a Darius fan really) but here is how I see it. A boss Rush mode is nice, but since a code for Boss Rush can be found in Super Darius (same game)...Alpha is rendered worthless, and at least, "nigh worthless".
If I was going to waste a shitload of cash on something stupid like this, it would be the Bomberman '93 Special (or whatever its called) because it makes it so much faster to get a multi-player game going. When playing multi-player Bomberman there is always some idiot hitting B/II and backing out of menus. This was designed to make the process faster.

i don't think it acually matters if Darius Alpha is a good game or not. its a almost pure collectability thing based on rarity.
i know it sounds wierd but if every turbo game was 99 cents and easily avalible I probibly would just give up collecting, now yhea i would still play cause i love alot of turbo games but it wouldn't be as fun to me in a way. I suppose i like the challenge element in collecting and haveing a few things like Darius A out there that seem almost out of reach gives me something to shoot for. yhea it would be nice if it was also a super fun game but i wouldn't appriciate my collection half as much if everything was $1.
that being said, i'm glad most games are not super expensive and i get just as pissed when ebay tends to inflate priceing but i like the idea that a few games out there add a bit of challenge to the collecting aspect and its not like its a must have super fun game, so if you don't collect the price really shouldn't matter to you anyways.

Zeta, it actually has more to do with the desire to own every single SuperGrafx game. While you can get the boss rush mode in the "regular" Darius, it's not a SuperGrafx-enhanced boss rush. ;)

That's the best excuse I've ever heard for owning this game.
Isn't the arcade version still better though? It seems like you could probably have at least ten copies of the arcade PCB for $1000.
-
Hahaha, yeah, I'm sure.
I'm not willing to drop $1000 on Alpha, though, if that's what it takes I'm going to have to come to terms with not owning it.

Unless it's folded up inside the case, I didn't see it.

No,its not cheap arcade pcb wise, and getting the correct cab set up for it is near impossible depending on where you are at. Wide screen game, and if I remember right it uses 3 monitors to do the screen. Your looking at a $2000-3000 project there more likely then not.
-
Wow, you're right. I guess I didn't realize it was a 3 screen game.
BTW, WTF is there a broke quote from me in your sig? That's weird.

Because I really liked the part where it ends with you saying you bootleg more music then anyone you know :P. I originally wanted the whole thing there, but it wouldn't let me,and after seeing it a couple times the way it is it just looks right to me.
-
There, broken quote removed. All is well. Meant to remove it a couple days ago, totally forgot to.

Can a single board drive all three monitors, or are there multiple boards?
-
If I remember right its a double or triple stack pcb with ribbon cables. Its so old now,it was out around 86. The last time I saw a junked cab for it was back in 99-2000 at the back of Godwins or Galaxy Amusements,I don't even remember which vendor anymore. The cab was stripped of its monitors, ect. It was siting by a decommissioned Cisco Heat if I remember right.

That's a fate undeserving of such a game. :(

Darius bosses kick my ass all damn day, there's no way I'd spend ~$1,000 for a "game" that's nothing but a boss rush of such creatures.
I still run into people sometimes that assume it's an entire Darius game due to the high price.
