Well well well, I am SO glad I FINALLY got to acquire this PS2 collection of one of SNK's best franchises. Art of Fighting 1 and 2 are two of my favorite SNK titles, and if I had an MVS with 6 slots, these would be the games in them:
Art of Fighting
Fatal Fury Special
Blue's Journey
King of the Monsters 2
Galaxy Fight
King of Fighters '96
Anyway, Art of Fighting probably needs no introduction. It was one of the most popular and biggest hits on the Neo Geo. Ryo Sakazaki and his friend Robert Garcia go to rescue Ryo's sister Yuri, who was kidnapped! Another thing that made AOF unique at its time of release was the zoom, or scaling or whatever. Plus it had a great challenge. It made sure that you didn't just rely on special moves all the time to try and earn victory, and the challenge is part of what makes it fun! Art of Fighting 2 is a great sequel in which you don't get to just play as Ryo or Robert, but you can play as any of the characters from the previous one (except Todo), plus Takuma Sakazaki and a new guy named Temjin. Must not have been as successful as its predecessor though, because I've never seen the MVS cart of AOF2 on eBay, and the only version of the AES version I see on there is the japanese version. Still, it's an awesome sequel. Art of Fighting 3 is alright, but I only played it once and don't recall enjoying it as much as the previous two.
As for bonus features, the disc doesn't really have any except for this color edit mode (YAY!), and that's pretty boring. They could've added more than that. Anyway, in conclusion, this is a great collection, and you can get it new for only $14.99, or possibly even less! Depending on where you buy that is. Couple of things were changed, like the "How to Play" sequence is removed, and during the bonus stages, it only displays the english title and not the japanese title too, and the speech samples in the cut scenes are removed. I haven't tried the other two on the collection yet, so I can't determine if they're the same way.

No SamSho in there

I avoided Art of Fighting for years because it looked boring. When I finally bought the PCE game, I was surprised by how enjoyable it was. Much better game than Fatal Fury 2, I'd say.

I have a fun story about the Art of Fighting games to bore everyone with :-"
One of my closest friends used to spend a lot of time with his brothers, in the mid 1990s, (his brothers are all now in their 30s or 40s) and all the brothers would bring their various high-end video game machines.
I was able to dominate them at all the Neo Geo games they had, except for Art of Fighting. The first time I went with my friend, I don't think I won a single game of Art of Fighting. (even though I used to skip my taekwondo class in junior high to play it at the local market quite often)
My friend was able to get his brother to let him borrow the Neo Geo, and we spent a lot of time playing art of fighting... so next time I played his brothers, Art of Fighting was added to the list of games that I dominated.
If I had a 6-slot MVS, here would be my choice of games:
-Fatal Fury
-Fatal Fury 2
-Art of Fighting 2 (if it exists)
-Nam 1975
-Ninja Combat
-Puzzle Bobble (for my fiancee)
If Art of Fighting 2 doesn't exist my alternate would be the Kunio Super Dodgeball game.
-
AOF 2 DOES exist though, otherwise it wouldn't be in the collection, nor would there even be AOF 3.

My friends brother has an AES home cart (I believe a USA version but not sure at all) but I dont know if I've ever seen an MVS version.

If I had an MVS 6-slot, here are the games I would have installed:
-Magician Lord
-Magician Lord
-Magician Lord
-Neo Turf Masters
-Neo Turf Masters
-Neo Turf Masters

I was never really into Art of Fighting, at least gameplay wise, but I recently bought and played through the PCE version and I really enjoyed it that time. The PCE version has it's own special charm to it. Fatal Fury Special is still better though in my opinion.

Oh yeah, I got you beat on this one:
-Windjammers
-Windjammers
-Windjammers
-Top Players Golf
-Windjammers
-Windjammers
-
Art of Fighting 2 is actually quite common on MVS,it usually runs you around $10-20 bucks depending on you you nab it from,or off ebay.
I have all 3 on MVS,and 1 on Arcade cd also. Pretty lame if they cut the voices from the cut scenes of part one. 2 and 3 don't really use voices in their cut scenes.
-
you and your windjammers. #-o
In a perfect world, I would have in my 6 slot:
Bust a move
Magical Drop II
puzzle de pon
Samurai Showdown
SVC Chaos
Metal slug 2

LOL, if you only want two games in it, then just get a 2 slot one.

What's an "anthrology?"

What's an "anthrology?"
Oh, crap. I didn't notice that! I'm too used to typing "Anthrology" from when I was fixated with the band "Anthrax"! DAMN!

I'm afraid I just don't understand your logic.

AOF what ?
Realy it's all about.
TWINKLESTAR SPRITES!
Jk the aof serise is not for every one.
Given you must learn the opponent moves and counter it as well and,it means useing cheap tactics some times.
I've played aof1 on the genesis and for aof2 in the arcades.
Maybe one day i'll pickup aof1-3 for my mvs.
Btw who doesn't love aof2 engrish endings

Well, there's a grip of SNK anthology's coming out next year. I know there's a Samurai Showdown collection(don't know if it includes the RPG, probably not :( ), & I'll be getting that for sure! I think there's a Fatal Fury collection, & maybe a couple of King of Fighter's collections. I think Magician Lord is also coming on some collection....or was that a dream I had?
-
Man I am glad they are finally doing stuff like this, but at the same time I'm more glad I have carts already, because the collections always have imperfections that annoy me.
-
Especially when Digital Eclipse does the emulation. They don't give a rat's ass about getting the sound right.

Yes it is i have it but it is realy easy.

You're joking, right? DE's PSP emulators have FANTASTIC sound, especially listening with headphones.
-
I don't know about PSP, but their emulators for Xbox and Xbox360 have all sucked ass. Oh, and PS2 as well. I guess it helps to know what the originals sound like. ;)

I did an A/B test with my Genesis and my PSP using Sonic 2's sound test. Right on the money, baby. 8)

Do an A/B test with the Capcom Collection for PS2/Xbox and the real arcade. It's usually the sound effects that are screwed up as I think they just record the music into a file instead of generating it. Digital Eclipse = ass.

Exactly, you are correct. However on the SEGA Collection, the sound is actually emulated, they even credit Steve Snake for the YM2612 core in the credits!
But I can forgive Capcom Classics Collection though, because Quiz and Dragons is in my top 10 games of EVER list.

Actually the music on the Sega Genesis collection is Streamed off of the disc. The way I know this is that the music was skipping until I resurfaced the disc even though there were no visible scratches to begin with (Weird). Ever notice when you play Phantasy Star 4 the music doesn't stop right when a battle ends? Also, laser beams don't make the Beeewwww sound. Other than that game, the overall emulation is pretty good.
One thing that makes me mad is how DE did the worst job ever on TMNT Arcade for X-box 360. No video (other than resize), sound or game options and you only get 1 life so when you die like every 15 seconds on some of the bosses the music starts over after the continue screen.
-
AOF1 is the ultimate. I love that game... great fighting, great story.. a cheesy Steven Segal look-alike.
It's awesome. It was also always open to play at my local arcade back in the day. Everybody clammered
for SF2 and avoided AOF like the plague. But I played it and loved it. God Bless AOF.

I really enjoyed the arcade cd version :)

Word.. I was impressed by that version. It's very good. Much better than the Genny/SNES versions.
*hope I didn't open a can of worms there.. hahah* 8)
