Title: Turbo/PCE Flash Cart SPECIAL
Post by: nat on November 14, 2007, 04:39:32 PM
If anyone is interested in picking up one of those flash cartridges from ic2005.com, now is THE time to do it.

We're getting together a group of people so that we can do a bulk order and get a significant discount ($40 off per unit). That brings your cost to $69 + shipping for the 64M carts and $109 + shipping for the 128M carts. However, in order to get the bulk discount everyone either gets the 64M or everyone gets the 128M. Personally, I'd like to see everyone walk away with a 128M unit but majority rules. We've got 9 people signed up so far. If you're interested, feel free to PM me or e-mail BT Garner at bt@mindrec.com.

Shipping looks to be about $12 per person for priority w/ insurance if you're domestic. International folks, sorry, you're still eligible but it will be a bit more on the shipping.

If you're interested let me (or BT) know ASAP so we can get this order wrapped up real quick like.

Not to sound ignorant...but what are these for??
Title: Re: Turbo/PCE Flash Cart SPECIAL

They are cartridges you can download ROMs onto from your computer via USB and then insert into your TurboGrafx and play on the real system.

Great for playing translated versions of Japanese games that you otherwise would have to play via emulation.

Sell some of your plasma or go make a 'manly donation' at the local sperm bank.

..... or test driving games before buying.

That's funny, when I was like 18 me and a friend used to drive around Seattle trying to find places to do that because we were unemployed and didn't want to get real jobs if it all possible.

I'd like to get a 128, but I too am low on funds right now. When is the deadline to sign up? Maybe I should search for a sperm bank  :-k

Not sure there is a definite "deadline" but I think the idea is to get things together within 24 hours. That doesn't mean you need to pay your share right this second, we're just trying to get a group together that is interested.

This sucks that its not going to be the 128mb ones  :( Once you play around with the 64mb one, you really wish you had the extra memory. Its especially apparent if you throw street fighter on there.

Yeah, I'm really upset about that. I was one of two people that wanted the 128M carts. So I'm buying two 64M carts instead.

But I don't need SF2 on there since I own the game anyway. I'm mainly going to use this to run English-patched versions of games and certain independent games that certain independent parties won't convert to ISO format.

Email sent, I am interested in 1 64M card.  (I'm mostly posting in the event my mail is filtered)

Oh yeah, and this card looks like liquid sex!  I was honestly worried about how it would look since there wasn't a pic listed on the first page.  Oh, the card is in megabytes, not megabits.  I was worried about 64 megabits, which it could have been, being a bit small.  64MB sounds like a lot to me though.  I could see one of these being so nice to pair with a core grafx system as a travel/vacation console.

No, it's in megabits - just like the sizes listed for HuCards.

Ah, I just went over the site again and apparently I was getting said info from a user review.  I was kinda wondering how the PC-E could handle a 64 or 128 MB card, but I figured they had figured out some kind of trick.  It's still a very sexy card as far as these things go :D
Title: Re: Turbo/PCE Flash Cart SPECIAL
Post by: Necromancer on November 30, 2007, 04:23:11 AM
Indubitably.  If it were in megabytes, the 128MB version would hold 256 games with an average size of 4Mb.  That would likely be overkill for most, but I wouldn't complain one bit (or is that byte?)

Got this in the mail yesterday; Thanks again for organizing this purchase.

Anynow, no matter what I do, I can't get the USB Slim Loader IV working.
I always get a 'connecting fault', when I run the writing software. I am
using Win98se. Any help would be very greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Nimtene, I haven't received mine yet so I'm just speculating but two things spring to mind:

a) Perhaps the Slim Loader is not compatible with Windows 98. Is Win98 compatibility specified anywhere on the box or website?

b) I'd guess that the Slim Loader uses USB 2.0 technology. If your computer is older and only has USB 1.0 ports it's possible it won't be able to communicate with your computer.

When/if mine shows up I'll let you know more after I run through the process.

I don't know about Win98 compatibility, but it should work with USB 1.0, as certified USB 2.0 products are required to be backwards compatible with USB 1.0.  You never know with those crazy Chinese though; they sometimes get a bit artful when applying terminology.

That's why I said "it's possible." :)

I've had devices in the past that refused to work over USB 1.0 but worked fine over 2.0.

Yes we have recieved them.
If you have a mac with a slot CD drive, you need to have another computer to read the "CD single" sized CD.
Some of the cards arrived a little bit dirty.  They hate region modded systems, but will work in any region of a PC-E (the region is selected right before you write to the card).
They will work as a System 2.1 card (with a 2.1 image on it).
Takes 2 minutes and 30 seconds or less to fill the card with USB 2.0.
In some cases, the reset button might conduct your static electricity.

I think they just about sums up the range of comments.

I personally think they are a wonderful product.

Sounds great... I was waiting for the 128 version to be released. Well, I didn't have any extra $$$ either. That was certainly a factor as well.

So what is going on with this? No posts in almost a month...

I would definitely be interested in getting one as well, and especially as a group discount, since it drops the prices down to 119$, rather than 149$ (I really doubt that we could find 50+ people here to buy these  :P). Everyone seems to be ranting and raving about them, and they look like an awesome idea.

Does Dean already have a solid plan in place to purchase the 128MB's, or?

Do we even have 10 people interested yet anyway?

Anyway, Dean will be organizing the next group buy. He seems to be in hibernation currently, I expect him to resurface when it warms up a bit.

Just a random question here, and by no means disrespect to anyone, but WHY are you people waiting around on Dean?...
I mean seriously, it seems a LOT of people around here do that, when plenty of you are capable of getting a group together and buying a lot.

Is there anyone else here, willing to get something together faster? He's working on his game sale list, no telling when he will be done, or ready to do this.

If I could be sure that people would buy them from me, and I wouldn't be stuck with the things, I would be more than willing to buy 10 of them (possibly more depending on how many people there are) outright, as long as people pay for shipping out to them as well, so basically I'm not out any money. The 30$ difference in price on one for myself, versus buying just one alone, as a reward of doing the whole thing is more than enough for me.
Title: Re: Turbo/PCE Flash Cart SPECIAL
Post by: nat on February 21, 2008, 11:10:54 AM
By all means, go ahead.

I think folks were waiting on Dean because a) he's a trusted name and b) he announced a while back that he was going to buy a bulk of the 128M carts.

I'd do it, but I helped organize the last group buy and I don't really need another flash cart.

Since we have no ETA on when or if Dean might resurface and be ready to go, if someone else wants to step up and do the deed, be my guest.

I think that is what Quoth was referring to,buying the 128 meg ones. I told him alot of people had the 64 meg one,so if anything the interest is in the 128 one. He could just as easily do this for everyone and help shave off the wait time if people were interested.

You should be able to find 'em on their website, but it'll take some hunting around on their convoluted train wreck of a site.  If you come up empty handed, let me know and I'll rip mine and upload it.

About how many games are you guys storing on a 64meg flash card?  I'll buy someone's 64meg one if they want to put that money towards a 128.
Title: Re: Turbo/PCE Flash Cart SPECIAL
Post by: Necromancer on February 22, 2008, 03:41:40 AM
It's limited to 63 games, but they'd have to be only 1mb roms to fit so many at once.  Most of the later games were 4mb, 6mb, or 8mb, so realistically you're looking at fifteen to twenty games at a time.

...which should be more than enough for anyone if you're using the thing legally. I use mine exclusively for tech demos and to run English translations of cart games.

Alternately, if someone already has a 64 MB and would prefer a 128, I'll buy the 64 off them.

How's that?
