Title: If this idea doesn't exist, steal it and get rich and famous, just lemme use it!
Post by: Kitsunexus on November 21, 2007, 07:41:33 PM
OK, for people like me whose work blocks downloads, this would be a WICKED invention! Get this:

A service, where you register, and instead of a picture host like Flickr or file host like Mediafire that require you to upload from your harddrive, make a file host that lets you pick a URL for a download on the web and store it on a server for you, to download later on any PC that has internet access!

You could apply the current "if you want unlimited speed/space, you have to pay" business model, and you;d be RICH!

What do you think?

www.atunnel.com (http://www.atunnel.com/)

Use it and you might be able to download. Try it.

Can't you use one of those Java virtual desktop things that allow you to control your machine from a browser?

That's not a bad idea, but wouldn't your work just block the website next?

Well they have VNC already set up (so they can monitor us) but they've got it blocked by McAffee ePolicy Orchestrator. They also have the physical act of saving to hard drive blocked by the same program as well.

I can't even boot from a thumbdrive, because the BIOS is locked down. :(

Me too, and I'm quite happy about it.  I spend too much time in front of a screen at home.

This is stupid.  If you have http access what is the point in mirroring what is available on another http site, just go to that site.

Use tinyurl or something if you want a different URL because the one you want is blocked.  Any kid who has gone to a school with Internet access should know how to get around filters.  I am disappointed in you, Kitsune.  [-X

I had VNC installed on my computer at work and I noticed "clients" would occasionally log in. I acquired access to "administrator" by means of being a generally nice and helpful guy and quietly removed the program from XP's bootup sequence. No one ever said anything to me and it never showed up again.

I have full HTTP access, dickf*ck. The problem is I CAN'T SAVE ANYTHING TO THE COMPUTER, AND TRANSPORT IT TO MY HOUSE WITH PORTABLE MEDIA. Dipshit.

So what the hell's the point of this 'great' idea?  It makes no sense to download a file to some other site just for later downloading.  It's not like it's hard to save a download url for later use.

Okay, finally I understand what the hell you are talking about.

I have an idea for you.

There is something called a "pen" and "paper"

Copy down the URL using the "pen" by pressing it against the "paper" to create letters

You can take this record with you anywhere you go and then download the file later using this record
