What do you reccomend?
-
Blood Will Tell
Chaos Legion
Contra Shattered Soldier
Crimson Sea 2
Crimson Tears
Drakengard
Ghost in the Shell
-
Hmmmm let's see.
SH2
Odin Sphere
Taito Legends Volume 1 and 2 also.
KOF XI
Just to name a few.
-
Espgaluda
Mushihime-sama
DoDonPachi Dai Ou Jou
Outrun Coast to Coast 2006
Choro Q HG2 (aka: Road Trip in the US)
Sky Gunner
Neo Geo Battle Colosseum
Initial D: Arcade Stage (sloppy-ass port, but still a good game)
Beatmania IIDX (pick your version)
Firepro Returns
Arcana Heart
Hokoto no Ken
-
yeah..in the first place go for all the cave and other 2D shooters! after that all the 80s/90s capcom/Taito/namco and and and arcade compilations!
then my recommendation in 3D goes for silent hill 2~4! (ok the 4th part wasn't that great, but take a look).
-
Sega Ages games, preferably Fantasy Zone.
-
oh..and the monster world collection! one of the best ever released!
-
Oh I should mention I have Black and Raiden III, both rule.
-
Espgaluda
Mushihime-sama
DoDonPachi Dai Ou Jou
I second these 3 games. If your new to Cave shooters, I'd suggest trying Espgaluda first. It's the easiest of the three and it has a awesome soundtrack to boot.
I also recommend these as well...
Gradius V
Dragon Blaze
-
Gradius V
OH HELL YES.
-
black is bad-ass!!! I had a shit load of fun with that game 8)

I simply cannot believe it's a PS2 game, it looks AMAZING.
Going to grab a game called Technic Beat later, I think....
Also, I got Every Extend Extra for PSP.... HOLY SHIT IT RULES!!!
-
Definitely Gradius V.
I wish the PS2 supported 480p more than it did.
-
If you like action/slasher/platformers with a little bit of RPG thrown in for good measure, try Genji: Dawn Of The Samurai. It's quite fun, and feels very authentic as it retains its original Japanese speech (subtitled in English though so you can actually follow the story if you don't speak Japanese). I can't really compare it to any other game available, as it's the first of its kind I've played.
-
What is wrong with you people, Gradius V is f*cking awful. The music sucks, and the bosses/enemies (especially the bosses) are the most uninspired, generic shit since the heyday of lame, generic shooters. If the game didn't have "Gradius" in the title nobody would remember it.
-
The only PS2 game I have is Front Mission 4, which is awesome despite what the majority of the world says. =;
-
Gradius V is pretty much the only Gradius game I can even tolerate. I hate Gradius as a series, though Gaiden was kind of cool. Otherwise the games are completely bland dogshit. The music is definitely an acquired taste and doesn't have strong melodies.
-
Monster rancher 4 (but not 3!)
Guilty Gear: X2 or XX accent core; avoid all others, especially isuka.
Those are the only reasons to own a ps2.
EDIT: I made a terrible mistake.
I forgot Katamari Damacy (and it's sequel) and Soul Calibur 3. (but beware of the memory card bug.)
that brings the total number of good games for the ps2 to a whopping 6.
-
Two other arcade ports I recommend getting
Metal Slug Anthology <- worth it just to play Metal Slug 6
Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
-
f*ck PS2, why the hell didn't you get a TurboGrafx or Duo-RX?
-
Those are the only reasons to own a ps2.
Man, I will never understand fanboys. You convince yourself everything but Nintendo sucks, and because of that you miss out on an extreme amount of great games.
-
No f*cking way.
This reply no longer makes sense since Seldane changed his original reply. Ignore this message. Carry on.

If you paid any attention to my posts at all, you would realize how mistaken you are.
Edit: And I find it funny that someone who uses a ps2 as an icon is calling me a fanboy.

Maybe because some people don't find those games to be great?
-
Because I have been wanting it since it was released, I bought Rogue Galaxy and (begrudgingly) paid $30 for a Sony memory card.
-
ROGUE GALAXY KICKS ASS. THAT IS ALL.
-
I hate Star Wars games. Therefore it can't kick too much ass.
-
I've bought third party memory cards in the past; they suck. I'm not just talking about on the playstation either. Third party memcards suck on the gamecube too.

Screw you, I HATE Star Wars and would NEVER buy ANYTHING Star Wars! Rogue Galaxy is NOT STARWARS!! THE END!!
-

I have a MadCatz GC memory card, it's double the space and is actually very awesome.
-
It is too a Star Wars game, otherwise it wouldn't be called "Rogue-something".
I bet you have the slim PSP that has Darth Vader emblazoned on the back.
-
I have an Intec one for the gamecube and it sucks balls. I guess I should have bought madcatz :(

http://ps2.ign.com/objects/729/729765.html < That's not a Star Wars game!!!!!
And slim PSP is retarded, screw that flimsy door! (Also it is too smal >_<)
-
Joe is thinking of Rogue Squadron
-
I was thinking of Star Wars too.

Why?
-
Sometimes it doesn't want to read. I'll plug it in and the console doesn't recognize it. I have to jiggle it in the gamecube and stuff. I had a psx one with that problem too. Maybe I just got some bad ones, idk.
-
Sounds like it. Or your GameCube sucks.
I have a third-party GameCube memory card that holds like 1,234,674,345,787 blocks. Never had a single issue.
-
1,234,674,345,787
So you went sequentially for 4 numbers, skipped over 1 and again went sequentially for 2 more numbers, then jumped back 3 and subtracted 1 so you could go sequentially again for 3 numbers only to skip over 1 so you could go to the next number in sequence only to subtract 1.
Why? ¯\(º_o)/¯

Exactly what I was thinking actually.

Oh, and amidst all this chaos, I forgot to mention that I passed up Technic Beat in favor of Ape Escape 3.
-
Why? ¯\(º_o)/¯
I will take it to the grave with me.
-
Just obtained Shining Force EXA!
-
Picked up Taito Legends 1 & 2 for $20.
-
Fatal Frame (maybe 2 and 3...but 1 is really the best)
Silent Hill 2-4
Rez
Time Gal (plays on the ps2)
Dance Summit 2000 (or 2001 my games are all still packed up so I can't look)
Vib Ribbon (plays on the ps2)
The Metal Gear Solid games
Final Fantasy X and X2
Any one of the Gran Turismo games
The Wizardry game for it
Ghost in the Shell the (PSX one, plays on the ps2)
R-Type Final
to name a few
-
with the PS2 prices dropping like flies all over I got these three games @ toys R us for $11 each.
GrimgrimOire (SP?)
Shining Force EXA
Suikoden Tactics
Pretty cool- I love 'end of systems life span time'
-
If you're a fan of fighting games, Soul Calibur II and III are certainly worth picking up (SCIII for the custom character creation system alone), and if you're into the whole MK series (which I am), then MK: Deception and MK: Armageddon are solid fighters (the latter has better models though and a custom character creation system, some of the character models in Deception look like they have sticks shoved up their asses). Also, if you like platformers, MK: Shaolin Monks is pretty decent, but a bit easy for a hardcore platform gamer. If you're looking for some retro action, there's a Genesis collection for the PS2 that includes a lot of different games, such as Altered Beast, Sonic, Comix Zone, and a whole bunch of other ones.
The PS2 seems to be largely devoid of decent traditional RPGs, at least over here. Such a shame.
-
Picked up Taito Legends 1 & 2 for $20.
Congrats
-
Funny thing is how Rogue Galaxy is Sony's version of Final Fantasy 12, so try that game out as well. I enjoyed playing it a lot.
Some good PS2 games I enjoyed
Ring of Red
Front Mission 4
Shadow of Destiny - very different game but enjoyable as hell to play, great time travel story.
Silent Hill 2 and 3
Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3
Contra Shattered Soldier
Dragon Quest 8
Onimusha 1 and 2
Devil May Cry 1 - but I haven't played 3 yet
Ace Combat 5 - which I like better than 6 for the Xbox 360 for some reason
Rygar - really good game, just could have been a little longer
Any of the SNK collections and also get Street Fighter Alpha Anthology, very nice arcade transfers.
-

This was the third game I bought, and I DO love it (even if the 3 main character designs are ripped off from ZOIDS.) !
-
Ring of Red...talk about underated..and needs a sequel
Persona 3
Dragon Quest 8
Tales of the Abyss
Rogue Galaxy
-
Rogue Galaxy
Have it and love it.
-
If you want rings of red, just buy yourself an Xbox 360.
-
-
Just obtained Shining Force EXA!

Yes, really. It is horrible. I retract the previous "" icon.

Its not bad if you like Champions of Norrath style games, but the constant going back to defend your stupid base does get super annoying. The first one was way better, although Record of Lodoss War was still 20 times better.
