The playstation 3 has already sold 6 million consoles.
The Sega Saturn sold 6 million consoles in it's entire liftetime.
there's no accounting for taste. [-(

I DEMAND A RECOUNT!
But to Sony's credit, even though the PS3 sucks major balls, THEY STICK BEHIND THEIR CONSOLES.
*classroom goes OOOOOOOOOOOOH....*
-
Not surprising, considering the bang up job Sega did of screwing over third party developers by providing shit development tools and launching the system early. And don't forget the way they gouged customers by overpricing the system and then quickly dropping support to focus on the Dreamcast.
-
ya, damn you Sega! I bought the saturn and then they quit supporting it. I was screwed! But for some reason, I went back to sega when they released the dreamcast, haha. You'd think that I'd have learned my lesson. :x
-
You went back because the Dreamcast is awesome.
-
The Dreamcast IS awesome, but let's face it, they could have come out with "Money Printing Station Deluxe" and they would have still failed. You just don't go around crying wolf, because eventually, no one is going to listen.
-
dreamcast didn't fail in Japan. It was a bad-ass system too. The sonic games were amazing for their time. I really loved JetGrindRadio. I have actually browsed and posted in this forum with my dreamcast and bba 8)
On another note; ps3 is awesome too 8)
-
The Saturn did better in Japan than the Dreamcast did, if I recall. The Dreamcast was dropped by Sega quickly and with little warning. The Saturn was the slightly better system (not as far as tech specs go, but as far as gaming goes).
-
The DC was more successful in the US than it was in Japan. It was the Saturn that was a one sided hit. A US-only Saturn collection isn't very good.
I "went back" because both the DC and Saturn were f*cking amazing consoles which entertain me to this day. Between the PCE, SS, and DC I seriously wonder if I'll live long enough to play all the great software.
Anyway, the PS3 f*cking sucks. The fact that you payed God knows what for it doesn't change that fact. It will only become "good" when games come out for it, and that only happens with a huge installed user base, and that only happens because so many people bought a shitty console betting it will become good, and kill off the better machines that actually have games. This all happened before with the PS2, and I'm pretty sure it will happen again, although this time there isn't anything even half as cool as the DC, so I personally don't give a f*ck who succeeds.
Well, I guess I hope its Nintendo because if their current success continues it will mean that people actually bought a machine for the games, instead of stats, or "me too" syndrome. If Nintendo can kick ass with an underpowered system like the Wii, its a victory for games rather than hype, bribery, violence, and all the other shit that sells.

Although to it's credit I think it's the cheapest Blu-Ray player out there...
-
Which is why most people buy the damn thing in the first place. It's pretty much the only reason I want it. Also, stand-alone BluRay players are of supposedly inferior quality to the PS3.

Say WHAAAAAAAT!?

I agree 100% with everything Zeta just said.
-
Yeah I think Zeta finally made a post that a lot of people can finally agree to.
-
There are at least 6 million people that don't agree with me.

I don't know why you think the ps3 sucks, it really is a great console. The games that are out for it are insanely fun. The grafx are amazing! It has so many capabilities out of the box.

I like my PS3, but, I only got it now, because it was relatively dirt cheap with the offer I got. Cost me less to get the 60 Gig, then it costs to get the new 40 Gig, not to mention, it costs cheaper then what the Saturn was released at. But, plus, I don't have to pay it off for a year, so, it was a good time to get one. Though, basically, I'm waiting for certain games, that, will mostly, if not entierly be Sony exclusives, like Jak 4, Suikoden 6, MGS 4, Wild Arms 6, stuff like that. I have no immediate plans to buy any games for awhile though.
-
Ridge Racer 7 is bad-ass! So is Ratchet and Clank. Those games will keep you happy for a loooong time :)

I agree, PS3 sucks, it has no games and I hate BluRay. DC and Saturn rock, but it would be idiotic to call them anything but failures.
-
I take it you have never played ratchet and clank? :-k

What, you mean the PS2 game? Why yes, I have played the PS2 game! PS3 SUCKS.
-
the ps3 version is really good, I think you'd like it :)

Commercial failures, sure. Poor market execution does not equal poor product, though. The American TurboGrafx falls into the same category.
As far as I'm concerned, Sony's day in the sun will come to an end when the PS2 fizzles out. When all is said and done, I believe the PS3 will lose the current console race in a solid 3rd place. I also personally believe HD-DVD will surface as the next-gen video medium, for better or for worse, over Blu-Ray. Blu-Ray will become the next BetaMax, further sealing the PS3's fate.
I personally bought a Wii over a 360 or PS3 because of what Zeta mentioned-- the gaming aspect. Call the Wii's controls a "gimmick" if you want, but it's a gimmick that got this guy interested in the current generation of video games. I've had the time of my f*cking life playing some relatively simple games on Wii Sports and the Wii Play package due the more interactive nature of the controls. Playing the Wii is a unique experience that transcends any kind of graphical limitations.

From what I've seen, there isn't much on it that isn't also on the 360. which suits me fine 'cuz my roomate has a 360 :)

I find it interesting that, if your (and my, and many others) prediction comes to pass, no console maker will have managed to make 3 'winning' systems in a row. Do people just get tired of one company?

The 360 has great games and grafx. I'm just saying that the ps3 does too. The exclusives are very nice.

All 7 of them?

haha, they are pretty good though. I only own five exclusives and four others. Thats $540 in software  I love my ps3 :)

I don't like Wii Play much, but the tank game is pure old skool fun! They should make a full game based off of it.
-
this is one of the things I like about the current gen: minigames. Lots of fun little things that wouldn't justify $49.95 by themselves, but they're still amusing. :)
-
Ya, those wii sports and wii play look mighty fun! I'll have to try them at a friends house.
-
Commercial failures, sure.
Exactly, they flopped saleswise but are arguably the best systems of their era.
-
Quite frankly, to me, neither the 360, nor the PS3 has a single game yet, that is a stand out title, that just blows me away. They both have decent games, nothing more. The Wii, which I don't own, actually has a few stand out titles, but, not enough at this time for me to care enough to buy one yet, maybe someday. Maybe someday I'll get a 360 as well, but, right now, there's nothing on the 360 that I would ever care about. There are games on the PS3 that I care about(still not standout titles, but, still ones I want to get). There is that new Naruto game for 360 that's supposed to be really good, but, it'll probably come out on PS3 as well. And, Hudson still has yet to release Far East of Eden Ziria, & probably never will. I do own the LE edition of Perfect Dark(because it was cheap, & I loved the original), & it's just an average game. I was looking forward to Shadowrun, but, they botched that one up as well, so that it's multiplayer only, no single story mode ](*,)
