Title: OK so this is very random and very outdated...
Post by: Kitsunexus on November 29, 2007, 08:26:19 PM
...but still, it makes me wonder. OK, so after the 9/11 attacks, Clearchannel (blech) made a list of songs that they would not play for fear of emotionally scarring pussies disturbed American citizens.
That list can be found here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_deemed_inappropriate_by_Clear_Channel_following_the_September_11,_2001_attacks#G). Of course this ban is long-gone now, but it just now hit me.
It seems kind of strange that they could ban some songs for even the MOST obscure references to terrorism, but yet, they forgot one of the most obvious ones... (which is definitely in my top 10 "best songs ever" list, t should be in yours too!)
Now just in case you don't know how it goes, and if your sound card just blew out or you're at work or something, take a look at these lyrics (2:44 to 2:46 in the Youtube video):
Quote
Sometimes I think Im going insane, I swear I might hijack a plane!
When the ban was in place, this song was actually on the radio (because it was not on the list).
Just another example of why censorship is idiotic.

Thank God the anthem of all the uber terrorists, 99 Luftballons/99 Red Balloons by Nena, was on the list.

Did they ban the song "Destroying towers with planes" by "Al, the Gay-dad'" which came out 09/10/2001?

It wasn't an outright ban but rather a suggestion. Just a case of political correctness gone to far.

That song f*cking sucks. It pisses me off that so many retro radio stations still play it. I like most 80's music, but my God if that song isn't the worst song ever recorded.

Really? I just took it at face value that two stupid kids caused Doomsday with a bag of balloons.
For the record, the only good version of that song is .

I love the german version of 99 luftbalons, but can't stand the english version because the rythm's off.

Not as weird as me, because whenever the beat kicks in after the soft intro, I always picture Hitler jumping out of bed with the title "Adolf Hitler's Day Off" appearing on the screen.

I thought the English version and the German version were the same song? Don't they sing part of the song in English and part in German?
If not, then both versions suck.

No lol, there is an English version and a German version. The Goldfinger album version DOES sing a verse in German, but in the Gran Turismo 3 version it's all English.
