Title: Reorder my Wish List
Post by: Sinistron on December 03, 2007, 04:26:10 AM
Please help me with this-
I've not played any of these games other than Psychosis, Tiger Road, and Out Run (though only in arcade).
Trying to reconfigure my wish list and I'm sure there's many here who've played all of these- please take my top 15 for my hucard and cd wish list and change it to a reconfigured top 10 for each by a general enjoyment factor...  Much appreciated.  Games I don't own that I cannot anytime soon afford such as Magical Chase and Dynastic Hero I have not included.
Hucards-
1)     Legend of Hero Tonma
2)     Tatsujin
3)     Mr. Heli
4)     Lady Sword (keeping in mind I am a perv)
5)     Toilet Kids
6)     Order of the Griffon
7)     Dragon Egg!
8)     Psychosis
9)     Long-nosed Goblin
10)   Alice in Wonderdream
11)   Outrun
12)   Dead Moon
13)   Download
14)   Tiger Road
15)   Chase H.Q.
CDs-
1)     Sapphire (bootleg)
2)     Dragon Slayer
3)     Rainbow Islands
4)     Pop N' Magic
5)     Exile Wicked Phenomenon (US)
6)     Schibibinman 3
7)     Chiki Chiki Boys
8)     Gate of Thunder
9)     Nexzr
10)    Cotton (JP because cheaper)
11)    Iga Ninden Gaou
12)    Shapeshifter
13)    Loom
14)    Horror Story
15)    Camp California

JP Cotton is certainly the one to get.  The Japanese release has full English text for the cut-scenes and japanese voices.  I think the US version is text only.

If you want Nexzr there are two versions.  The original has cool cut-scenes, while the Summer Carnival '93 version doesn't.  However the SC'93 version has the extra gameplay modes.  The big difference is the price, original Nexzr is rare and quite expensive, SC'93 is much cheaper.  I prefer the original release, but if you don't care about the story, SC'93 will save you a lot of cash.

Oh I highly recommend adding Serei Senshi Spriggan to your list.  Its a must own, and superior to a lot of the shooters you have listed.

I have Spriggan- and love it.  The ones on my list are games that I don't own...

Had no idea that JP Cotton had English text for the cut-scenes...

I say that you don't worry about the order of your list and instead buy whichever titles turn up first at a good price.  Beyond that bit of half-assed reasoning, I vote that you pick up Gate of Thunder, Dead Moon, Nexzr, Psychosis, Cotton, and Mr. Heli (in that order).  The rest of the titles can be picked up wily-nilly.

now- being that I already own the first two Bonks and Bomberman- do you suggest that I chase down a JP Gate of Thunder instead of an American- I believe it's cheaper also?  Any differences?

and is it safe to assume that you're a bigger shooter fan than a platform fan?  Although as far as the hucards are concerned I don't have as many platforms left to buy...

I don't think that there are any big differences in GoT, so feel free to go for the cheaper version.

Actually, I'm not really a huge shmup fan.  The other games on your list are either over priced (i.e. - Exile: Wicked Phenomenon, Lady Sword, and Sapphire), not universally enjoyed and therefor hard to recommend even though I like 'em (i.e. - Loom, Shapeshifter, Camp California, and Order of the Griffon), mediocre, or I haven't played 'em enough to recommend them.

4.   Dead Moon
5.   Mr. Heli
6.   Tiger Road (a little rough visually, but fun once you get into it)
7.     Legend of Hero Tonma (just because IREM rocks)
8.     Tatsujin
9.     Long-nosed Goblin
10.   Lady Sword (keeping in mind I am a perv)

Note that I haven't actually played Tatsujin or Long-Nosed Goblin ( ) but I put them above Lady Sword because they are shooters and everybody loves shooters.

CDs-
1.     Sapphire (bootleg)
2.     Cotton (JP because cheaper)
3.     Gate of Thunder
4.     Schibibinman 3
5.     Shapeshifter

7.     Exile Wicked Phenomenon (US)
8.     Chiki Chiki Boys
9.     Nexzr
10.    Rainbow Islands

I haven't actually played Nexzr, but it's been recommended to me. It would undoubtedly be higher on my list had I played it, but I just can't endorse something highly if I haven't played it.

Dang, Out Run that high? Well by all accounts a great conversion.  I initially wanted all the Sega hucards just because I collect my hucards in baseball card sheets in a binder- and being that there's nine Sega hucards it would look nice having an all Sega page.  So far I only have Space Harrier, Shinobi, Fantasy Zone and Afterburner II (as far as Sega goes)- but I've been remembering the good times playing Out Run in the arcade.  I have brief memories of playing Psychosis- but it seems (fittingly given the game's subject matter) like a dream.  Your list looks good- I think I'll try to run with it.  Already have in the CD department as I've got one of those Sapphire "bootlegs" on the way...  Thank you.

Had to break from your order for one hucard however.  Asked Dean like a week ago for Lady Sword and he came around to e-mailing me back.  However- I can only find this on E-Bay for 90 bucks.  Dean had it for 30 and I'm keen on saving 60 bucks.  Now I can play a game in a language that I don't understand just to look at smutty graphics.  Is the 3D 1st person scrolling smooth in this here puppy?

Also- is there any thing I should really know about the game mechanics being that I can't read Japanese?  Or does it play exactly like Double Dungeons?

Funny site about Lady Sword-
http://www.angelfire.com/ri/returns/sword.html

I'd have Dragon Egg and Outrun towards the top of the HuCard list.

Excellent- That site translated the options I needed.

Sinistron, you may or may not be aware that Lady Sword is currently in the process of being fully translated.

And yeah, Outrun is that high on the list because Outrun and SEGA of that era absolutely f*cking rule. Psychosis is one of my favorite cart shooters for the system-- really solid.

Dragon Egg didn't do much for me.

Oh, and a note on Rainbow Islands.... I find the sequel, Parasol Stars to be the superior game. Don't know if you've already got that one or not.

Yes I have and love Parasol Stars.  One of the best hucards.  I have a decent collection- 126 hucards and 29 CDs.  As you can see my Cd collection is much slimmer.  I've had games in the past that I no longer own as well.  Lady Sword being translated sounds great- but only for me if it will be on a CD.  I don't play on an emulator- and my attempts at burning roms in the past to use on my turbo w/ CD w/ converter w/ arcade card went nowehere.  I basically want Rainbow Islands to have another turbografx game my girlfriend will like- as for me I'm sure I'll enjoy it yet with limitations.  I've been keeping myself from buying the cellphone version so that I can play it eventually for the first time on the turbo.  One player is f*cking lame though for a "bubble bobble" game which is why I had Pop n' Magic on my list- no good?

f*ck emulators. You could always do what many people do and buy one of those PCE flash carts. They are great for playing translated ROMs on the real hardware.

Dunno, haven't played it.  Could be great.

Dang.  Got my Lady Sword- and I f*cking love it.  Most of the things I found wrong with craptastic Double Dungeons are fixed here- lack of a map- for one.  There's a map in Lady Sword which shows every room you've been in, graphics and enemies look great, love the music, and the nudie pics give an incentive to finish.
