This came in a mixed bag auction I got a while ago.
I posted this up on DP, and nobody knew what it was. One guy thought it was a Kisado.
Checked Ebay completed stuff, but I have never seen one of these, just the small boxy ones and the Kisado.
So....what the heck is this thing.

it's simply a us <> jap converter! brand "self-made".
-
people have gave it the name "diving board" because of its appearance. Like tat said, its simple a us to jap converter. Yours is a revision that works with the duo. The diving boards without that yellow wire do not work on the duo. It usually sells for $100 and up on ebay.

WOW,, 100USD ??? it's just a single sided FR4 material pcb with some fixtures on it.. it's work like USD0.25 as for what it's worth, hahaa,,,, anyway,, I think there's a converter that's in white / purple that I've seen many years ago, haha looks better,,

Yup, that there is what we used to call the "green diving board" converter back in the old days.
They aren't too common any more. That's probably the only one I've seen in the last ten years.

i think, it's the right time to produce some new ones and throw 'em all over ebay.
-
Trickle them out slowly enough and you could get inflated *RARE*!!!!!!!!!!!! eBay prices for a while until people catch on and the price normalizes to match supply.

Custom made circuits are a bit more expensive than a quarter, but the biggest problem would be sourcing the HuCard socket. The converters last sold by TZD (and Aussie made, if I'm not mistaken) used what appeared to be a pci slot sliced and diced to accommodate the additional thickness of a HuCard and shortened with a permanently installed bit of circuit board. While that's certainly not an elegant solution or easy, it's likely the only one available, as I doubt that sewing machine parts will ever again be a suitable substitute.

Yeah, a lot of import shops back in the day were giving the things away for free with purchase of SFII' or something like that (which was $115 or whatever).
Anyone that pays $100 is an utter dumb-ass...but they do all the time.

I remember that, haha. The good ol days :)

That is truly the best part of the story.
Someone should ask Shadoff where he got the parts. You never know....

nowadays i would buy some crappy dirty junk PCEs in hardoffs for 200~500yen each and grab the slot out of it.

I have the diving board and am quite endeared to it. Purchased on EBay along with Japanese Bonk III for 100 beanies. Only thing is it protrudes so much that you must keep mindless wanderers on the other side of the room otherwise they'll take the f*cking thing out with one careless leg movement. there was a foolish girl in my apartment walking past the machine once and the back of her foot rested on the tip of the converter. Somehow by divine intervention she realized this just as the diving board was on the verge of snapping. She turned to me with moronic eyes and I sternly shook my head. "Get your foot off of my converter."

"Get your foot off of my converter."
Oh, if I had a dollar everytime I said that.....

Funny, I'm usually telling her to put it back.
