Title: Video game remakes ??
Post by: nectarsis on December 19, 2007, 01:05:32 PM
I have a question for the board.  With all the remake/rereleases as of late (FF 1 & 2, FF 4 DS, DQ 4 DS...etc). I want opinions.   Who would rather see just the remake/rerelese....or the remake, with the original, untouched (besides a direct english translation for those that weren't brought out originally like FF 3 NES).

This seems to be fairly well done with Dracula X on the PSP version.  I'm sure with most (if not all) of these older games geting remakes, most of the media formats used would be big enough to support that.

It just seems lately, that even "classic" games are dumbed down for modern players (the FF remakes are soooooooo easy)>

i like remakes as long their're worthy to carry the name of its original and the original is available as well.

some bad examples:
-Bonk
-PSP dracula x (the polygon remake)
-Takahashi meijin no boukenjima

Very true. I just want to know why companies release 2,000 "remake/rerelease/collections" with a version of Sonic (example)... when so many worthy games are forgotten.  Take the Genesis collection for the PSP/PS2..great idea...imagine a Turbo/PC Engine collection like that  :)

yeah that would be great :D

i like those collections (without remakes) for any systems. BUT, i dislike if their're just sloppy coverted like most on the PSP (screen ration / bad interpolation etc.) if they don't take the time to adapt the original to the new screen resolution/ration, they just could spare their time for some other things. no need!

I voted "Don't Care" because remakes generally suck and I don't buy them.

Usually...I do have high hopes for the DQ 4 DS remake though.

remakes sometimes seem sloppy and rushed. I was disappointed in some of the sega remakes for the ps2.

What's bad about Bonk?  I was thinking about picking that one up(for PS2).

to make long story short, it just looks awful in any ways.

True..  A drunk looking Bonk with fangs is awful strange.  I might still grab if I can
get it for under $5... hahahah..

I think they should remake some o' them Ys games.  I can't believe nobody has ever thought of it before!  No need to leave them all alone on the PC-88 or whatever that ancient thing is.  God DAMN I'm brilliant!

Actually I don't care what they remake, just as long as the new versions have polygons.  Any game without polygons is most certainly not worth playing!

Like Ys Eternal on PC?

I played through that and man, its a great tribute to the original Ys Book 1&2.

Remakes should include the original, but I'd rather that they actually come up with something new.  I'll take a decent sequel over the umpteenth rehash of the same ol' shit any day.

Actually I don't care what they remake, just as long as the new versions have polygons.  Any game without polygons is most certainly not worth playing!

Word to the polygons' mothers, especially true for ultra-low count polys with extra jaggedness.

Monster World Collection was great  :)  I just wish we would see more of this.  Collections like those can be a great way to get a group of games for much cheaper than finding/buying all the originals.

I unfortunately haven't played it. One of the reasons being that Sega has forsaken us Americans  :x

Kind of like the Phantasy Star 1-3 remakes for the PS2, that were even advertised in store ads.....
