It seems that the name of every regular board member has become synonymous (in my crazy mind, at least) with a particular PCE game. Usually, it's because the poster is the game's ultimate fan, championing it like no other. Other times, there's a goofier reason at work.
GUTS - BLOOD GEAR
GUTS has become known the world over as "THE FATHER OF BLOOD GEAR." He discovered it and hyped it up when no one else had even heard of it. Plus, he looks like the main character.
RAG-TIME - IMAGE FIGHT
For almost two decades, Image Fight has been known as "just another" PCE shooter. Then R-T shows up, and all of a sudden a whole bunch of people are playing and enjoying it.
NAT - SPACE HARRIER
It's his favorite game of all time, and he's completely mastered it. Hasn't suffered a death in about seventeen years, even with the difficulty cranked.
EMERALD ROCKER - EMERALD DRAGON
His user name and avatar pretty much say it all. Also, this is the only PCE game he's completed, aside from some "imae" teen idol nonsense.
SIGNOFZETA - ADVANCED V.G.
Not only does he like the game, which is weird enough, but he's even cited it on lists of the "greatest" PCE games that US players were "deprived" of. Yep, if only NEC had brought over more mediocre games about waitress fighting tournaments!
ESTEBAN - BLODIA
Steve sticks up for a lot of bad games, but his love for this one is noteworthy for two reasons: 1) He's more passionate about it than he is about the other clunkers combined, and 2) Not a single other person in the world agrees with him on it.
JOE RUDDIFER - RAYXANBER II
Because he always goes around saying "RAISIN BAR! RAISIN BAR!" whenever the game is mentioned. And I think he's the one who posted the link allowing everyone to hear the goofy voices at the beginning.
KERANU - JJ & JEFF
Obviously. Not only has he been the game's most devoted fan, but he's even managed to convince a few other folks to join him in his mad crusade to bring it more attention and respect.
BONKNUTS - MACROSS 2036
A fellow 2036 fan who famously spent a huge chunk of change to acquire it back in the day. I think the purchase just shows he was way ahead of the rest of us: if I'd had known how good the game was, and if I'd had the cash, I'd have gladly spent a ton on it too.
TATSUJIN - BAZARU DE GOZARU
He's always posting pictures of himself posing with his copy, and everyone says he looks like the monkey.
PARANOIA DRAGON - STEAM HEARTS
Just because the poor guy keeps trying to get rid of it and, to my knowledge, hasn't had any takers yet.
BLACK TIGER - TENGAI MAKYOU KABUKI DEN
Another no-brainer. He owns about seventeen spare copies of the game and has no fewer than twenty-six Kabuki tattoos. Major props to him for the FAQ that helped many others get in on the fun.
CETI ALPHA - NINJA SPIRIT
What can I say? The penny-rolling story is classic!
M1SAVAGE - ANEARTH FANTASY STORIES
He'd probably rather be known for his mahjong-game prowess, but the fact remains that his Anearth walkthrough kicks all sorts of ass. Check it out.
SPENOZA - PARASOL STARS
It might be even more appropriate to identify him with the soundtrack rather than the game itself.
CCOVELL - METAMOR JUPITER
Chris is the one who posted the MJ review, right? It's hard to associate him with anything else because most of his posts are in those "guess the screenshot" threads.
D-LITE - EVERY GAME EVER
When I think of D-Lite, I think of ENORMOUS FS lists boasting hundreds of games. He's like the Santa Claus of PC Engine games, so I certainly can't connect him with just one.
NECROMANCER - NO ONE GAME
Necro is an equal opportunity fellow who apportions equal commentary to favorites and bombs alike!
RUNINRUDER - ANYTHING BAD
Legion, Energy, Night Creatures, you name it! Whatever the rest of the community despises is treated like classic material by this clown.
-
You can identify me with all the PC Engine rpg's...lol....I can't understand the stories, but what can I say..I am an rpg addict :)
-
Hey you forgot me :( and my love for AirZonk 8)
-

-
I'm not exactly a regular poster yet. >sigh<. :( Hell there's always next year. Not that "Sinistron" is my favorite game. My last name is Sinisi however.
-
Nice list, runinruder.
-
Ha, yeah, that bit about Necromancer is so true.
Good stuff there.
-

I'd say that's good enough reason.
-
Ouch, I see I'm left off the list :) I'm one of the old timers here, but I will bet that you can't figure me out :)

OD
You're definitely an old-timer, but you're so scarce these days you may as well be a newb.
-
I associate SNKNostalgia with Street Fighter II CE since he knew what buffering moves was :D
-
If you have to relate me to a Pc Engine/Turbo title,it would have to be Splatterhouse. Its my fav title, gets the most play time hands down.
-
Yep, if only NEC had brought over more mediocre games about waitress fighting tournaments!
Dude, that's TRUTH! We need more waitress fighting.
-
I think the answer is Volfiev... Wait, wrong thread. Who is associated with Volfiev, huh?
-
You guys don't know it yet, but I am a huge, a HUGE Galaga '88 fan.

I haven't yet because it won't be until after Christmas that I will own a PC-E. I'm one of the few/only people that own a FX but no other NEC console. I'm almost up to having 1/3rd of the FX library though and now have most of the games I will ever want for it. The arcade version of Galaga '88 is what I am used to and I assume it is similar to the PC-E version. Galaga '88 is also the only game I own for the PC-E right now, I bought it because I had to own it since I don't have an arcade machine in my apt.
-

Pffft! Galaga '88 sucks hard - try '90, it's a whole two better.
-
I like to merge the 3 ships. Thats what makes the game so bad-ass! 8)

Something about calling it Galaga '90 just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The game feels so '80's to me, just a little more colorful. It's also bizarre they called it Galaga '90 on a console when it was called Galaga '88 in the arcade :-k
-

It was all about marketing... the '90 verson was updated and Turbo-powered for the new decade!!
-
Yeah, who would want to buy a two-year-old outdated piece of garbage in 1990? It was the only way to sell copies of the game since in 1990 no one in their right mind would buy something with the year "1988" attached to it. Sheesh.
-
Great, I'm known for Steam Hearts ](*,) And for the record it's still for sale. Occassionaly I think about keeping it, just cuz it's a shmup, but, it's just not my cup of tea, & I don't like hentai, so, add that together, & walla walla Washington. Hmm, as I was going thru the list, I didn't even think I'd make it, cuz, I really don't know what I would be associated with. I know I'm probably the biggest Impossamole fan here(not that I think it's perfect) as it's quite underated IMO :D But yeah, Turbo D & Zonk go together like uh, baseball & apple pie!
-
It is truly amazing how much damage a sub-par game did to Turbo-grafx sales.

Uh, which game are you talking about?
-
my icon was bomberman for years, so I would hope people associate me with that. 'cuz bomberman is awesome.
and Od, as far as I'm concerned, you're a newb. I think there's only one other person who still posts here that's been here longer than me. (other than pcenginefx himself, of course.)

Good ol' m1, eh? But who's oceanfr, and how did he travel back in time to register in '69?
-

I associate you with blue balls now

Most of the choices on that list are the same I'd pick. The one major difference being that I always think of Chris Covell and Tongue Man's Logic.
-
Me too, lol

1. they just pulling your leg.
2. it was called Galaga '90 because it was released 1990 on the american market, and since we know, the americans always have to make something worse with so-called corrections, they didn't refrain from that one as well.

I am against putting years in the titles of ANY games.
-
HOW WILL WE KNOW WHAT VERSION OF MADDEN TO BUY???? OH THE INSANITY...
-
I am against putting years in the titles of ANY games.
Same here! They should have called it Turbo Galaga 8)
-
I'm not associated with any one game??!?! Cough! Sputter! Tongue!
-
I gladly accept my position that list :D .
However, Runin, your game is Deep Blue! I'm shocked you didn't even mention it next to your name! There is no expcetion to this!
-
I'll always picture you as that tough wrestler thats in you avatar 8)
-
Well that is true, I did star in Battle Royal.
-

Heh, that's a good choice for me. But now that Nat has become my tag-team partner in defense of it, I can't take credit as being the only genius who recognizes its greatness.
-
HhHHhHhahahahaha. Who can disagree with Runin?
I associate "Ninja Spirit"/Toneman with Samurai Ghost because he was really into that game for a while.
Rolins with Raiden (especially SCD Raiden) because he's the only one I know who has beaten the SCD version.
Helgeson with any of the SNK fighters on the arcade card / TimeKillers
Paranoia with the title track from Impossamole
Emerald Rocker with Kiaden 00
etc. etc.
-
My girlfriend calls me Bonk because she thinks I look like him. So I guess the PC Genjin
games can be related to me.
-

Haha thanks man! As of now I think I'm the only one on this planet that could beat it in one go.
I was kinda hoping the same for Son Son II..

Son Son II looks awesome, and someone posted some really useful info on the old magicengine boards a few year(s)? ago...
I've only played it for a few minutes, because there are a few things I'm clueless about :)

You know, I was thinking about Black_Tiger and I associate NEO METAL FANTASY with him the most.
Why?
Well, I had never given that game a second look until I read B_T's posts about it. So, for me, this was the most memorable game, since I would not have never really given it a chance had it not been for him.
Woo hoo!

Which one? Normal Bonk, angry Bonk, atomic Bonk, or pantywaist Bonk? Please don't say pantywaist Bonk.

So, Keranu, where is B_T these days?
-
He was away for a long time (albeit not as long as you :) ) and then came back some time ago and posts every now and then. He said he came back from some top secret mission, so I don't know what the old cat is up to.
-
Probably buying TTi
-
I hope he'll be showing us some more pics for our cinemas for Mysterious Song, his work is wonderful!

No releases yet. We're planing our next release sometime after the apocalypse.
-
Indeed.
-
I started playing BioShock recently. Although I haven't played Timeball/Blodia yet... this screenshot reminds me of Bioshock's hacking screens:

:)
Can it be really THAT bad? I'll have to try it out soon. I wonder if I ordered that one from D-Lite or not. I guess I'll need to check.
-
that one is quite tricky!

TATSUJIN - BAZARU DE GOZARU

that's because, i am the monkey :)
-

It's not that bad. Steve knows what I'm talking about. I don't know why people hate on it so much.
It's a pretty neat puzzler, and I dig the music too. Very atmospheric. The first time I really got into playing it I was sitting on the balcony of a rental house in Hawaii, it was a warm evening and the sun was going down. I was tipping back a few Coronas and was definitely "in the zone" for Blodia on my GT.
You know how when you hear music it takes you back to the first place you ever heard it, well, every time I hear the Blodia music it takes me back to that warm Hawaiian night. So mabye I'm a little biased, but I had lots of fun with that game on that trip.
-
yeah..music is the best souvenir carrier.
-
It's not that bad. Steve knows what I'm talking about. I don't know why people hate on it so much.
It's too boring to play and too homely to look at. My excessive retardeditty and being unable to get very far doesn't help things either. Since it's too hard for me, I think I'll go cry now.
-
It's not the prettiest game, I'll give you that.
But there are many more games that look much worse than Blodia that don't get hated on quite enough.
Take Genpei Toumaden, for example.
-

There's no such thing as 'enough' when it comes to hate for the abomination known as Genpei Toumaden.
-
Haha. Awesome list Runinruder! :D I don't know how I missed this thread. :-k
I'm building up a new penny collection, but I'm not sure what games to buy with the money now that I have reacquired a copy of Ninja Spirit thanks to rag-time. hehe. I'm thinking either Parasol Stars (I love Bubble Bobble and need to play this. lol), Magical Chase, or Dungeon Explorer II (US version).
-

Parasol Stars shouldn't cost you all that many pennies. I got mine last year for like ten bucks. It's an okay game, but I prefer Rainbow Islands. I know I'm in the minority on that, though, and PS is more like Bubble Bobble. And RI is more expensive.
Dungeon Explorer II is f*cking awesome, definitely the one to get of the three you mentioned. Take the original DE and throw in a larger world, more bosses, an incredible CD soundtrack, and one of the coolest Turbo villains.
I don't like Magical Chase.

Here I am with another great post. 8)
I hope he'll be showing us some more pics for our cinemas for Mysterious Song, his work is wonderful!
I'm hoping to have another complete cinema by the end of the month.
I haven't been able to stop myself from revising the character designs over and over, but after this cinema is complete all of the character's appearences for the cinemas will/should be set in stone.

It really is. Especially when a piece of music gets layered in several experiences over the years.

Blodia is a fun game. I was a big fan of Pipe Dream]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pipe_Dream_(video_game)]Pipe Dream (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pipe_Dream_(video_game)) as well, so this shouldn't be surprising.
Blodia represents all that is great with puzzles: an exceedingly simple concept that is addictive to play. Once you solve a puzzle (especially tough ones), there's a wonderful moment of satisfaction. Then, you're on to the next one.
Blodia should have been given a more polished look and more songs. Oh well.

JOE RUDDIFER - RAYXANBER II
Because he always goes around saying "RAISIN BAR! RAISIN BAR!" whenever the game is mentioned.
that's funny, one of the guys that reviewed this game in Sendai Publication's
Super Gaming magazine, also said (raisin bar?) ^__^

nat is offering the best advice, but considering how cheap GT is, I'm sure you'll be able to get some enjoyment from GT. I did. Runin's review is accurate, though, and I fear that GT can become frustrating the further you get. I haven't gotten too far into the game, plus part of my enjoyment is derived from its "novelty". The novelty quickly wears thin.
I also bought the famicom version of GT... I've had the same experience with this version.
I wouldn't recommend any "normal" person to get these games. :)

Yeah I figured Jack Carter would be more forum-friendly...
