lots of options here. In Honor of the Iowa Caucuses, I'll let you vote twice.
-
Got to say Super Mario World. I spent more hours on that game then most Snes titles, and more then on any other pack in game in general. If you would have listed all the pack in games with the Duo,Ys,Ninja Spirit, and the Gate of Thunder disc,I might have voted for that, but thats a close might.
-
Yeah, SMW was an awesome pack in and I voted for that. I also voted for Hang-On/Safari Hunt due to nostalgia alone (it came with the first video game console I ever bought).
-
Super Mario Bros. (NES) simply because its pretty much the greatest game of all time, making it by default better than any pack-in.
The US Duo pack-ins were the best value-wise in console history though I think.
-
I voted Duo (assuming it's the five game pack-in, like Michael pointed out) because you just can't beat the amount and quality of games in that pack-in. I haven't voted my second yet because I'm undecided between Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt/World Class Track Meet (NES), Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis), Wii Sports (Wii), or Super Mario World (SNES).
-
Impossible to choose only two, because Sonic, SMW, and the Duo 3-in-1 were all equally great in my eyes.

wait. you didn't vote for altered beast OR sonic?
who are you and what have you done with the real Joe?
-
Hey you missed the greatest pack in of ALL time, without a doubt- Super Mario All Stars. That is the single great cartridge ever created, seriously.
Also, did Nintendo pack Mario 3 in any system? I can't recall ever seeing a NES with Mario 3 packed in.
-
I don't remember the SNES ever being packed in with all-stars. I do remember SMB3 being packed with NESes, though; A neighbor kid who got a NES rather late had it and nothing else.
-
I voted Mario 4, er, Super Mario World. The quality of that game surpasses any other.
-
Yeah Mario All Stars came packed with later SNES systems, I still have a box that has the sticker for "Mario All Stars + World" as a pack in. Good times.
-
I've added it. Do you think I should reset the vote count?
-
I'm kinda scared I am the only one who voted for Altered Beast. I don't even own a Genesis. I stand by it as the best pack-in game since you didn't list Sewer Shark. Altered Beast on the Genesis pretty much sets the standard that all Altered Beast translations should be held up to. Sadly I don't know of a console version of this game better than the Genesis version.

When we got our Atari 2600 back in the day it came with not only Combat, but Pac-Man too. Me and my brother played tank pong for freaking hours, and for this fact I voted for Combat. :P
-
I voted the duo pack-ins, obviously :) How can it not be the best, it came with pure hits!!! I also voted tetris for gameboy. That was a great combo! When I think of a the original gameboy, I think of tetris. 8)

Wasn't there a Genesis that came with Sonic 2? I really don't remember very well since I already had my Genesis and wasn't interested in another.
-
I got the good genesis with sonic 1 8) I do believe the model 2 came with sonic 2 though. I really hated the sonic2 that came with the game gear. THat game had me pulling my hair out, haha.
-
I got Sonic 2 for free in the mail in Nov 93 from Sega. It was part of a promo for buying a Genesis core deck.

What about the Lion King pack-in for Genesis 8) ?

Sonic 2 for Game Gear sucks! Such an annoying pack-in!

That's pretty awesome.

Dammit! so many things to miss...
So I guess I wasn't the only one who thought the Game Gear version of Sonic 2 was too hard?
-
My votes went to the Duo pack ins (for obvious reasons) and to Tetris for the Gameboy. I spent many, many happy hours in that game; it was perfect for on the go and was awesome to link up and play against my neighbor. If I could have a third vote, it'd go to Combat for the 2600. 8)

I voted the duo pack in and the NES SMB/DH/Gyromite. I remember first seing Rob in action and thinking it was the cat's ass. True- Rob got put on the same shelf that would eventually get dusty along with the idiotic power glove and all of the other useless craptivating NES accessories- but that first day man- that first day. :)
-
I voted for the Duo pack-in. Not only do you get the 3-in-1 CD, but you also get the easter egg Bomberman and a random pick of any HuCard game (or a preselected HuCard. But even those preselected HuCards were great games. i.e. Ninja Spirit, Dungeon Explorer...). My second vote was the NES pack-in SMB/Duck Hunt/Gyromite. The robot was a gimmick that only had two games, but it was still fun to use. :)
Altered Beast was an OK pack-in and did show off some of the Genesis' capabilities, but Altered Beast just isn't a great game to begin with IMHO.
-
I guess it shouldn't surprise me that the Duo pack-ins are annihilating all the other choices. It is, after all, a TurboGrafx forum.
But I doubt that'd be the case on any other video game forum. As much as I love the Turbo, objectively speaking I think Mario 4/SMW is by far the best pack-in ever. I mean, that game was f*cking phenomenal. The amount of work that must have gone into that game... only to have it end up as a pack-in. They could've sold the SNES without a pack-in and made people cough up $60 for Mario and made a killing.
I guess it depends how you look at it. Quantity-wise, sure, the Duo pack-ins would slaughter any competition. But on quality alone Mario just kills. It's probably as close as you can come to having a "perfect" platformer. And they just gave it away for free.
-
I voted Super Mario / Duck Hunt. The most widely circulated pack-in of all time.
-
You forgot Mario Paint with the SNES. That shit RULED.
-
I was going to say Tetris (Gameboy), and by rights, it is the best pack-in.
But, I voted for Combat because my brother and I played a bazillion hours whenever we visited my uncle's house.
Hmmmm, 2-player competitive Tetris on Gameboy could have crushed Combat, though.... hmmmmmmmm....
-
There's also the Sega Genesis model 1 "Fighting System", which came with Streets of Rage 2
-
I voted Super Mario World for the snes and the duo 3-1 pack for the Turbo.I used to think Keith Courage for the Turbo Grafx 16 was the worst pack in game ever.If Sonic the hedge hog 2 was actually packed in with the Game Gear, than that would be tops.Does anybody no if the Atari Lynx ever had A pack in game?.
-
Super Mario World. The best game ever made and one of the few Nintendo-developed games that's actually good.
-
While I don't think that SMW is the "best game ever made", I do have a lot of fond memories of playing it in my youth. It definitely has one of the highest replay values of any game I've ever played and would certainly at least be in the top five best games of all time in my opinion...maybe even top three. Of course, the original Sonic would also make that list, since it has just about as much replayability to me (though SMW has a slight advantage). It just sucks that none of their respective sequels was able to recapture that feeling.
-
The Duo 4-in-1 and Super Mario All-stars + Super mario world(SNES) are teh best. 8)
