the pron. is like it's written: tai (like thai) and to (like the "to" of ton e.g.) > tai-to

He's Swiss, they probably pronounce it differently.
If you belive the voice at the beginning of bust a move 2X, it's "TIE-TA!"
(edit: I was remembering this:
But I've always pronounced it 'tie-toe'

I have said "tay-toe" since I was in diapers. I know this is probably wrong, but I've been saying it this way for so long, there is little chance I will be able to change my ways.

... such as the fact it means "far east" in Japanese, where it's pronounced "tie-toe" (obviously).
So why are the Far East Of Eden games called DenDen or some nonsense and not like Taito no Eden?

You should know better than to think that translating like this:
Japanese -> English -> Japanese
would give identical results all of the time.
Taito means Far East, as in the Orient.
Tengai Makyou (天外魔境) roughly translates to "Evil boundary outside the heavens", so they obviously chose (rather loosely) an English phrase that had a nice ring to it.
In case you folks weren't familiar, "East of Eden" is a famous novel by John Steinbeck, so I'm pretty sure the makers of Tengai Makyou combined the phrases "far east" and "East of Eden" into a single pun.

I've always said tay-toe, and I don't care how the Japanese say it - this is America, dammit!

I pronounce it Tai toe (rhymes with dye). I remember playing bust a move, and at the beginning it said "tai toe". Before that, it was always "tay-toe" to me :) Actually, where I live we have a crisps (potato chips) company, called Tayto. So I just pronounced it the same way.
